Cassandra Rissaude, Second Princess du Violette (“Of the Violet”) // old enough to drink // 5’9” // portrait of a lady

The Winter Solstice twenty-one years ago was the darkest and most foreboding day the Violette realm had seen in quite some time. It was the day of the change of the century, and some assumed that the weather was a sign that hard-handed and horrific times were approaching for the land and its people, while others claimed it was the end of a quickly darkening era and the passageway into a bright and beautiful new one. Either position was justifiable; it was this same day that the Second Princess was born, to the Queen and her endearing husband—but also the same day that Tervrin, Violette’s very powerful neighbors to the north, decided that peace was not on its list of resolutions for the next hundred years.

Cassandra was immediately caught in the mix of emotions around the palace. Some were pleased about her birth, knowing full well what a wonderful and ideal woman her elder sister Anna, blonde and perfect, had turned out to be. Others of superstition, however, treated her as an omen of death and despair, and did their finest to avoid prolonged contact with the princess for fear of retribution from the gods and the supernatural. Early on, Cassandra had quite the difficulty reconciling these mixed interactions, believing it was something about herself that drew some people away and others towards her—but as she grew, she came to understand the realities of war and belief as well as her position, and no longer sees herself as a demon wandering the walls of her home.

Moderately reserved and possessing an interest in many great things, Cassandra is well-learned and eloquently spoken, spending her time around books or the things the enjoys. Growing up, she was given the privilege of access to these things, in an attempt to pass down the sacred royal knowledge of Violette to an heir that would remain for quite some time. The Queen was beginning to age, and it was doubtful that another child would follow Lady Rissaude. Recently, she has attempted to learn to fight, finding swordplay strategic as well as satisfying when her duties as a Lady of the Court become too overwhelming. As a princess, Cassandra is required to be aware of the status of her country and her people, as well as her family—and she is especially aware of the quickly approaching time to be married away as the third or fifth consort to a duke whose only interest in her lies within her womb or purse. Cassandra is naturally opposed to this idea, having seen her sister’s individuality slowly disappear in the years following her matrimony, but there is little that can be done without outright treason against her family’s bloodline, and the humiliation that would come with it.

Cassandra is slender, built more like a warrior than a woman, but of course well-endowed with the attributes of classic femininity. She prefers to keep her dark hair cut relatively short and away from her face, at the longest trailing lavishly over her collarbones. Unusually bright emerald eyes are the highlight of the princess’ face, an intense and beautiful reflection of the innocence that surely still rests somewhere within her.
