Up until 2020 history remains the same as we know it today. However, on February third 2021 history changed dramatically with the meteor storm known as "The Disaster". over the course of three days earth was struck with seven consecutive impacts of significant force. The first landed directly on top of central park vaporizing nearly ten million in an instant. Thirteen hours later while still reeling from the first impact a second was identified moments before it too impacted this time 273 miles off the coast of New York. it whipped up tsunamis that ravaged the east coast of the united states, the west coats of Greenland and sent 500 meter waves headed for Europe. the third impact was near the direct center of the Atlantic ocean only 177 miles south of Greenland. this was the largest recorded impact and for a brief moment after the collision one could see the bottom of the Atlantic ocean. walls of water over a kilometer high were shoved out in all directions flooding the coastal European cities, further demolishing the east coast of the united states, and causing both the gulf of Mexico and the Mediterranean sea to flood their banks causing massive damage to coastal communities there as well. the fourth impact struck smack in the middle of the English channel completely leveling northern France, most of England, and ravaging Ireland and Scotland with floods and tremors. the firth impact hit the baltic sea just seven miles from Saaremaa, Estonia. Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Denmark, Sweden, and Finland were slammed with the contents of the seas followed shortly afterward by a rain of blazing basalt debris this area seeing some of the heaviest loss of life in the entire series of impacts. the sixth impact was just seventy miles southwest of Moscow and absolutely hammered the Russian capital city, but its trjectory shot debris like a splash towards Belarus and the Baltic sea further adding to the carnage in that area. the seventh and final impact while not as powerful as the Atlantic impact was regarded as "the one that broke the world." it landed smack dab in the middle of Tibet and shifted the tectonic plates that make up the Himalayas, kicking off a series of earthquakes and volcanoes all around the world. the strangest thing was that a secondary explosion was registered moments after the impact and it is believed to be that second explosion that set off the chain reaction.
In the years after the Disaster the world was in shambles. Criminal syndicates like the cartel and opportunistic warlords began to rise to fill in the power gaps left by the demolished govenments. powerhouses like the united states and the united nations tried to re-establish order with martial law and lockdowns but the lack of communication across vast distances and fractured trade networks made such heavy-handed tactics logistically impossible and would in fact only contribute to more bloodshed as the resource wars began. things began to look grim as the collapsing food chains and excesses of firepower combined to become a storm of lead, explosions, and emaciated soldiers fighting for promises of rations. it was beginning to look as if mankind wouldn't survive the disaster until Brazil, South Africa, Australia, and Mexico, joined up with ludicrously well-armed Nation-state of Texas to form the Rejuvenate Order. West America promptly joined along with the remaining European nations to form a twelve nation coalition which took the fight all over the world bringing down terrorist regimes, criminal organizations, and tyrannical warlords putting their prisoners of war to work rebuilding roads, communication networks, and general infrastructure. All in all the RO seemed to be winning the war on chaos, n just a decade they had nearly reconnected half the world and more than a billion people worldwide were working in peace to rebuild the civilization we once had. Sadly the RO had a lot more to contend with than panic, fear, and human nature.
Eleven years into the rebuilding effort mankind encountered a strange situation. the first Altered human was revealed as puberty awakened their dormant mutagens and they became a hulking titan of muscle. sadly this also revealed that many were cursed with insanity in addition to their powerful special abilities. this first altered human seemed to go insane and claimed the lives of 312 civilians, and 113 RO soldiers, worse it wasn't even brought down by military might but rather was stopped by another alter who would become the first to join the RO defense force, after a few years to train and educate the young man of course. the next few months were some of the most chaotic times of the RO's history, hundreds of cases of alters rose up all over the world along with numerous reports of monstrous beings requiring heavy firepower and casualties to bring down. to make matters worse many of the remaining warlords and crooked regimes began forming teams of these altered humans and even rounded up and weaponized some of the monsters slowly but surely closing the power gap between them and the RO. with little other recourse the RO was forced to formulate teams of their own and the next decade would be filled with some of the most destructive combat mankind had ever seen reaching a crescendo when a city of 2 million was vaporized in a flash by a heavily stimulated and drugged altered human. This caused tensions to die down for a bit as people began to realize the risks associated with a superhuman arms race. unfortunately people came to the conclusion that like nuclear weapons the best deterrent to a superhuman rampage, is a superhuman rampage.
With Altered humans beginning to not only be accepted by society but actually beginning to be looked at as celebrities and guardians of the new world order hundreds of cases of altered humans donning costumes to fight crime, monsters, and corruption like the heroes of old comics are popping up all around the world. many die in disgrace, unprepared and overconfident. others eventually are approached by the RO or another government agency and receive formal training becoming more famous than they ever could alone. others still fight the chaos of the world alone and somehow manage to handle the obstacles becoming freelance heroes. those who are most feared are those who have decided to use their powers to benefit themselves even becoming the very warlords that the world fights. however a perhaps overlooked concern is the rising number of Altered humans mentioning a Dark god who is coming to judge the world and is apparently behind the disaster, something these cultists consider a gift. even with the full resource of the RO behind them these teams of altered human heroes clearly have their work cut out for them.
