@Sigismund

My apologies for not getting back to these sooner. I forgot to put the sign up thread on Watch ... so I didn't get Notifs. Anyways ... we have some problems. Partly my fault. I didn't specify some things. (What? You can't read my mind?)

1. There can only be One of each character type (Scientist, Doctor, Engineer). Right now we have two people posting a Scientist. Likewise, I do not want the combat skills duplicated. Each character should be the best in his chosen love. I'd have no problems with two characters loving to fence, but one should be the clear champion, while the other be the best in another area.

2. Now the Philosopher doesn't really fit what I was going for. This is a sort of Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court setup. In other words, the skills need to be capable of revolutionizing technology of Ancient Rome.

3. All need to go back and re-read the Overview. These are characters that were the best of the best through high school. They went off, did college ... and then their lives didn't pan out as hoped. By the time they meet in the bar they have issues with both Law Enforcement and the Underworld. backgrounds should reflect this.

We need one of the two scientists to take on the Engineer role. I'd suggest the Philosopher. There is no reason he couldn't have two degrees.

LOL .. uhm guys, the pics look like the guys are from the 19th century and 40-60 years old....

@Sigismund

I am already getting a request about an engineer. So I am going to give this 24 hours to hear back from you guys.

Okay, I must've read the overview while tired. I'll fix that in a jiffy.

Well the pictures, I just saw Illusives and thought it had to be somewhat old picture? Anyway I'll change that too, no problem on that.

I am going to bring this up before we get to where folks start writing walls of short posts.

Try to stick to one or two posts a day, giving others a chance to post. What I do NOT want is to have two characters bouncing back and forth with short one paragraph posts. If you want to do that, build up a Joint Post in PM's, then have one of you copy and paste it, cleaned up for spelling and grammar, what clarity as to what character is doing / saying what.

I realize this may scare off some members, but I am looking for quality here. I tried to join another RP. By the time I managed to get off work 4 hours later there were 4 pages of short posts that were impossible to follow who was doing what. I simply withdrew from that RP.

The idea here is to develop the characters. In the bio I don't need all the gory details about their troubles. Those can come out in the RP. You know how people can be at a 10 year HS reunion. Many may not want to talk about their personal troubles. These guys were competitive.

I will look for another picture that is more suitable, but finding a good picture with a good mustache is quite hard. But never the less I will do my best to find a more suitable picture as well.

Going for the classic Britt look and personality.

Better pic. I found younger.

Anyways, I am still looking at two scientists ... There can be only one. I am going to have to treat these like resumes. Roger ... yours is still way too sketchy, like a 2D cutout.

The Doctor looks decent. Take a look at his background. That is closer to what I am looking for. The background should give an idea of where the guy is coming from and how he ended up with his current attitudes.

Oh, for what it is worth, I am thinking of having the bar located in Las Vegas ... ie at Caesar's Palace.

Just a quick, simple question. (I'm nearly done editing.) Are we going to roleplay before the "incident" or after it happened?

(Edit.) Alright, I've added some information about the branches. Do I need to add more or is that enough to just get a taste of what it is?

I debated that. It is probably simpler to cut to the chase or we might never get to Rome. But I do plan to describe more about the three ladies. No, they were not random women at all. One of them was responsible for transporting you three.
@IllusiveShade

@Sigismund

@luggage

Okay ... That's three of us. Slots are filled. I am closing off the sign ups. Not sure how bad work is going to be today, but I will try to get a starter post out as soon as I can. Or you guys can pick up where the Overview description leaves off. (The three women are gone, but may eventually make an appearance later.)
@IllusiveShade

@Sigismund

@luggage

And my first post is up. Couldn't help but add a little humor.
Folks .. @luggage mentioned he might not be able to post tomorrow or Monday. I will leave it up to you guys if you want to wait that long. But let's try not to leave him in the dust.

@IllusiveShade the goat is a baby goat. I doubt he could actually eat your beard or mustache. But he was nibbling. Your mustache might be slicked down with goat slobber. It just seemed the perfect thing to have it do.

These animals are going to follow you guys around like you are their mamas. Soooo .. a little about how to RP them. I will run a lot to their behavior - for a reason. I didn't just do this for a dumb joke. The animals are actually part of the plot.

baby goat - it is a billy (male) typical behavior is going to be head butting everything around. Or it may paw at things.

thee baby monkeys - feel free to name them. They are actually well behaved most of the time. But you can guess what their schtick will be. One will cover its eyes sometimes. Another will cover its ears. I can assume you will guess what the third one does.

The baby elephant - well, he's an elephant. He .. is going to be a surprise.
I added a a link to an interactive map of the Roman Empire. It's a biblical map with lots of quotes. But it also has historical data. One of the better maps I have found.

I finally decided on a spot to plop you guys in, a quaint little town called Attalia, located on the southern shore of Asia Minor (Turkey). I wish they had stuck Heirapolis on the map (Pamukale, Turkey). But I guess there were no biblical scriptures for the site. It was a very popular spot from Roman times to the present.
Roman Banking and Economics

1 aureus = 25 denarii = 100 sestertii = 200 dupondii = 400 asses

Annual wages of a Roman Legionnaire = 225 denarii

Week at the Inn your are in ~ 10+ denarii (doesn't include the stabling and traveling zoo).

That might be a little inflated considering this isn't Rome proper but on the far end of the empire. The town of Attalia isn't even under Roman law yet, though they accept Roman currency.

Okay .. Pergamum ...or however you spell it - lol ...was bequeathed to Rome in 133 BC. But most of the region was not brought under control until much later. Ephesus - what is now modern Izmir, Turkey - remained a free city state. So while you are in an area of Roman influence, it is more like a territory. Think Wild, Wild East.

So.. A sort of No mans land thing? Nothing is ruled by a iron fist and it's more or less every man for himself?

Larger cities are city states that pay taxes to Rome. Attalia, the smaller town where you are is basically a Roman equivalent of Mos Eisley (Hive of scum and villainy). The region remain infested with pirates for the next 150 years or so when the Roman Empire finally pacified the region. I'm no expert. I did live in Turkey and visited several of the archaeological sites. It is really hard to find a good illustration that shows expansion of Rome by year into that area.

Alright, sorry to question. So the timezone is 50-40 BC? Just need clarification. Sorry to bother with it.

Correct. Although this isn't YOUR Earth. I did away with any monotheism and am emphasizing pantheons. Just for flavor really.

You will be able to get a better idea of the exact year once you hear of the death of Julius Caesar. For those who really don't care about hitting the history books, here are the Crib notes of the last years of the Roman Republic. As all three of you strike me as excellent roleplayers and unlikely to metagame, here is a little bit of a spoiler. (Our Coin collectors and history fanatic characters will figure it out soon enough. Julius Caesar has only recently died - which means Augustus is just about to get started on his rise to glory as an emperor. In short, this is probably the most turbulent period of Roman history - 17 years of civil unrest. The question is - which side will you guys join? (Hint: Anthony and Cleopatra didn't fare so well.)

ROMAN REPUBLIC

ROMAN EMPIRE

Samuel is pretty much the only one who doesn't have something towards history. Except the books of course.

Damien works with geology, and he had taken classes on history in ancient civilizations and one of those is the Roman Empire. Then he also been in Italy and all of that.

The same with Soren, although that is more of a hobby interest. He did read about mythology and ancient civilizations.

So ultimately, Samuel isn't the history guy. Although he is the one that is going to patch the rest up.. So theres that! He is also the best on ranged battle.. Whis can be used as a disadvantage... He can streetfight.. I mean being part of the Bratva does get you to learn a few dirty tricks. But he is going to suck in a sword fight.

Yep, Damien is also the coin collector. Just by studying the coins in your bags he is going to have a good idea who is leading the Republic - or not as the case may be. Most of the coins are probably minted with Julius Caesar's face on them. Silver content is also telling if he can get the means to do specific gravities. (And a geologist can probably jury rig something.)

The Third Roman Civil War runs from 44 to 42 BC. By the end of that you guys will want to be ready to pick a side. You have 3 years. Or ... you could pick a side sooner and join the assassins of Julius Caesar and work against the coming Second Triumvirate. (Although you would probably accelerate its formation if you did.)

LOL, I am looking forward to seeing a half dozen legionnaires go after Soren thinking an unarmed man easy pickings. Then have onlookers wonder how six men could trip over themselves and break their own arms and legs. I knew a black belt in aikido (awesome GM with a real bardic gift). Big guy. But some idiot at the college tried to attack him and that was what it looked like.

Soren's only properly versed in mythology, so I doubt he's going to be much help in this situation. We're all depending on Damien to get things done.

Also, question. Can we choose either side or do you have a plan ready for us and which side to choose? I'd also like to know if there's any extra research that we may need to do?

Pf, Soren's not good with sword fighting if it's called for. He'd prefer to be unarmed and barefoot if it's possible. (I was so glad to find out martial arts had been left free, because I'm actually doing Tae Kwon Do, so I don't even have to research as much as I would if I were to take up something else.) Ooh, sounds like that sounds fun. Black belts in any martial art are amazing to watch when they fight.

This is close to what it might look like on Samuel.. Except the monkeys might be picking through his beard.

On that Demir reply, there's a little map. That's the map of the inn, correct? I was assuming it was. I just wanted to know where the stable was on that map if that map was a map of the inn.

Edit: I won't have time tomorrow, probably, so I'm posting my reply now. I'll edit it for the proper location of the stables later!

He's right. I forget if there was a stable on the schematic, but that was what I had in mind - especially in a smaller town. I'd say stick the stables on the left side of the map (call it west?) and the rooms on the south end.
Oh .. with typical Legionnaire pay at about 18-20 Denarii per month, or about 5 denarii per week, I would suggest the rooms and stabling couldn't be much above 5 D per week each for the nicer rooms plus the stabling, etc. So with 100 D each you guys aren't really poor, for a little bit more you could probably improve your living conditions. Or you could invest in some fashion, or use the horses and travel, or buy passage on a ship, ... options, options
No no ... just giving you guys a heads up. The innkeeper didn't tell you everything yet. There's also a wagon and a pair of oxen. The wagon has a few barrels. And there are a couple mercs watching the wagon. (Yep, they were paid to watch and make sure nothing was stolen.) The innkeeper even "knows" WHY you ended up here. (Yeah, he thinks he knows ... though it is nowhere near the whole truth.)
Oh .. those barrels have milk in them.
Yeah, I was watching all day yesterday too. Luggage, If you want to have Sorren pick up his food and follow them to the wagon, that's fine. Have fun with the "snow" shovel.

And yes, the animals are still following people around, or riding on shoulders, etc. Sprocket won't stay in lock up for long. About the time Soren starts looking over the wagon, Sprocket will have escaped somehow (leaving the gate still locked behind him) and come running around the corner.
I've been off of work for a couple days, but much of that spent at doctor, and donating a bunch of stuff to a local mission.

Ah, good luck on your exam then! Though I'm sure you'll do fantastically ^-^

Are you alright, Mitheral? At the doctor's? I hope it wasn't anything worse than a general check-up!

I've just been awfully free and spend most of my time here, just constantly refreshing the page since this is actually the only RP I'm currently doing. So, yeah. (I really don't have work to be doing, how sad XP) And I've never really done anything other than a one-on-one, so I'm not sure of the posting conventions that apply here. I've been trying to keep with a set pattern where everyone replies once and then it goes on. I was hesitant to make another post, even though I really wanted to yesterday because I wanted to move things along XP

Oh .. just a follow up to check blood pressure and adjust prescription. All done now. I WAS on the verge of losing my feet. But they have been improving. So it looks like I'll be walking for years to come. Yay! Really all just a part of getting older and having low blood sugar.
Well, I was hoping @IllusiveShade would post. Been a few days for him. I am going to post something soon. LOL, the question about a blacksmith is actually a perfect one.

Yeah sorry mith, but I have a hard time actually making posts at the time being due to troubles regarding my Internet connection and exams not to forget I have had an operation in the leg (don't worry it's fine) that have been taking up my time. But I will post a reply in some hours.

This is just a quick respond to assure you I do care for this RP I just have a little trouble with time atm. Sorry if its annoying.

1. Demir's fever should break by the next day. However he needs a place to sleep. Samuel is already out 2 Denari. He could put the guy up in his room - if he feels safe doing so. Or a Denari should cover a cheap room for a week. two would be a Legionnaire's room. Bear in mind this is only assuming you even want to help the guy.

2. Up to you if you let that thief get some idea what the mercs are guarding in the wagon. LOL, it is just Milk for about a week for the animals. The wagon is worth far more than the cargo.

3. At some point I may bring one of the ladies or even Hargoth back into the picture.

4. The local smith isn't especially skilled. However, this region had the most advanced Iron technology of the known world - save for a couple rare examples like Damascus steel. (Yes, that is what those two unusual daggers were made of.)

5. Once Demir is past his fever and has incentive he may be inclined to explain how he was wounded - and why he was in town. He's not from the area.

6. Once Demir recovers, news of Samuel's skill is going to hit the rumor mill. Don't be surprises to get more offers of work. The same is likely for Soren and Damien if they show off their skills. The question is, is this where you want to show off?

Too many merged posts, so I deleted the last one - along with all the comments. Too many comments too.

Main thing I need is a decision on #1 and #2 above. This can be done OOC if you guys want me to timeskip.
