Maybe its cause I'm looking at it from the outside of the culture, but Japan's weird sexualization of minors in cartoons thing never fits right.
Not to say such things dont exist in some form in USA, but I feel like that shit is really in your face in anime, VNs, and manga. Not all of them of course, but it's enough that I definitely have concerns at times.
Of course I could be entirely wrong and it's my imagination. Aside from liking manga and anime and some general knowledge. I'm no expert on Japanese culture. And note this isnt a comment about Illya. Shes technically older, but still. She looks like a kid. And then you have the loli, or shoto or whatever, thing which is usually used as a positive term and definitely has some bizzare connotations to it considering where the term orignates.
Just saying....this is from what I've seen. It could be ignoring similar stuff here in the states, but I swear Japan's sexualization age seems way younger.
USA has tons of weird shit and our superhero women have some really unrealistic bodies. The men to. But still most of them are adults usually. It is what I attribute to making me thirst for redheaded women in leather.

It is kinda weird, but then I chose a user associated with guys who tie up and diddle gators, so who am I to actually judge?
I just think the characters are adorable. It is a plot device, you want to protect the adorable character, and the shock value is infinitely multiplied when that character is hurt/killed/abused etc, but I do think "cute" and "sexy" are being confused.
