Well, I can dual play, but it's one of those Just Because You Can, Doesn't Mean You Should scenarios. It's a habit of mine to crank out too many characters that I wind up having a larger group than the rest of the players combined, and I'd rather not have that many PCs out at once

So, a Face-Preserving Pearl is something Long dragons put on fresh, nice-looking corpses so they can be added to their treasure. It basically stops the body in question from experiencing natural cell degeneration or possibly time in a sense. The body doesn't progress in age or break down, it just stays in the phase it was in when the Pearl was placed. In Journey to the West, where I found it, it was only placed on corpses, but if the person wasn't dead, hypothetically it would be an item that grants eternal physical youth, provided you can convince a wealthy Long to part with it.

What if someone shot you in the head and you had it?

The body doesn't progress or breakdown. You'd know you were shot, but your body won't die. However, you wouldn't naturally heal, either. You would need some kind of healing magic or remove the Pearl, which in the case of a headshot would mean death anyway.
