The Pink in a Crowd of Grey
There was once a land divided into different races: the dwarves, humans, elves, hobbits, goblins, wargs, skin-changers, wizards, etc. The inhabitants of this land called it Middle-Earth. Most of the races had been in strife with each other for centuries. However, a dark force had awakened the Wyrms (Dragons) and along with them the malicious Orcs and their Undead followers. The races were forced to set aside their differences and fight these otherworldly creatures for the sake of their survival.
The Great War continued for many ages until an epidemic broke out. It happened in various areas around the world with no particular pattern. The marks paid no head to race or gender. Various creatures were given the gift of Sight. It was gift to see through the preconceived notion that the dragons were evil. The age of the Dragon Riders had begun.
The Dragon Riders have the ability to see through to the real nature of the dragons. They gain their friendship, loyalty, and, most importantly, alliance. Through these riders, the war shall be won.
I do believe the worst is behind us.
