Fantasy Aether: The Dark Age OOC

"Sir we're out of ammunition for the catapults."
"Well then, time to bring in the babies."
No, it wasn't that. After the first few crusades failed, a bunch of children and teenagers banded together with basically no supplies or weapons, believing that God would deliver them. Well, they made it to Rome, and most of them died on the way. The Pope then told them to go home.

Can we try to get the rest of the characters out over the next 1-2 days please? I'd like things to start before the end of the week since I gotta go through them all. :)

Also just completed Mario Odyssey??
Omg it's so good

SO GOOD.

Do you wanna have a weapons stall at the fair or some such?

This is a good idea. Arryn's goal won't necessarily just be to sell weapons. He'll be looking for contacts among the church of light and the cainhursts to set up contracts with new clients that were unavailable before the peace treaty.

No idea who the CoL or the Cainhursts were using to forge their arms and armor before, but Hogan is better. Or so he believes.

I mean, the Church can craft enchantments (Cereza's blade was crafted specifically for her) so they're probably the only ones around who have the knowledge. There might be some old Dwarf somewhere with the no how.

Well, I didn't realize the process of enchanting weapons was so little known.

Even so, whatever smiths they were using in the process probably aren't on par with Hogan.

Although, that does complicate one of the other plot lines I was going to pursue. I was going to have Arryn specifically searching for a Cainhurst or church trained mage or mages to set up an establishment of some kind in Cloudtop. He wanted this establishment to foster a partnership with the forging industry there.

Enchanted weapons would be very difficult to make before the peace because Cloudtop has skilled smiths but not the mages. Cainhurst has the mages but not the skilled smiths. If they could get everything in one place, which is theoretically possible now the war is over, it'd make these weapons a great deal more accessible and affordable. Arryn sees a huge opportunity there for both the prospective entrepreneurial mage(s) and the forge he or she or they partner with.

If the enchanting process is unknown to all but the church though, I guess I can't pursue this.

So, the Church has knowledge of Enchantments because it was something the Smiths of Meyneth's army knew and it's been a secret in Alcamoth since then. The problem they have is resources, and Cereza's Sword was the last one that was crafted - I imagine they have enough of the special ore left to make a few more things, but that'll be saved for the next leader or whatever. There's only one individual in Alcamoth who knows the process, with all the other smith's making standard weapons and armor for the Church's forces.

And i don't see why the secret can't be rediscovered if that's something you want to pursue. Of course, you'd need the metal to experiment on - or find someone willing to give him the secret of that craft.
Im sure many in Cainhurst would leap at the chance.

Im not talking about legendary weapons, mind you, I'm talking about the generic kind. I thought it was well known how to give normal weapons a temporary magical effect.

I actually have some other ideas that kind of spring from this related to creating another magic school, but that idea is still in its infancy and requires more thought.

Oooh sorry I misunderstood, thought we were talking legendary.

Yeah that's fine, but won't this end up with your character locked in a shop somewhere away from the action?

Legendary weapon forging will come evemtually, but mine ornsome one else's character has to find enough of that special metal first. In good time, I'm sure.

The mage/smith collaboration idea is principally a part of Arryn's motivation for going to the fair. It might grow into something more if other mage characters want to expand the idea with me but it doesn't have to. It would take a while to get a partnership like that going, so it would always be something 'in the works' rather than something that'll monopolize my character's time. Further, since Hogan isn't really front and center this time, I can always just say it's something he's got going on behind the scenes while Arryn dies other stuff. All said, I'm not too worried about it taking him away from the action any more than any of Arryn's other blacksmith duties, even if the idea does end up going somewhere.
