Something
Aertha
Aertha is a world much like our own. While some of the world has been mapped, much of it remains unknown, and it is the prime age for people looking to make the discovery of a life time. Ships are often at sea, be them military or otherwise, and two nations verging on a war puts many on their toes.
Countries
Hafland
Hafland is a country with a large population residing in the middle of most maps, which aren't very accurate. It's a country similar to England and France in the 1720s-1740s with likened styles and culture. The Hafland military is mostly naval in current times, as they are preparing for any attacks from Litania. If they happen to catch some pirates while they do it, well, that's just a bonus for them.
Litania
Litania is farther south on the maps, and is a medium sized country. It's similar to Spain, and has a sizable population. While their military is strong, they seem to be more centered on finding places to harvest gold for their king, despite the threatening war on Hafland. They are hostile towards pirates if they are noticeably so.
Zilen
A small island country in the west. It's just barely it's own country as it was discovered by Litania five years ago and has since been trading with them and other countries. The population is rather high for it's size, and it's frequented by traders and pirates often.
Notable Places
Parina
Parina Port, also called Pirates Port, resides on a small, hidden island near Zilen. It's both a city and trading port, and it's almost exclusively frequented by Pirates. Many things happen here that wouldn't be allowed in the mainland of Zilen, and much of trading pirates do takes place here. To get to Parina one would have to know how to find it, and also how to navigate the rocks centered around the city. This information is often kept secret, so only pirates can make it there. However, not everyone is good at keeping a secret, and there have been raids in the past.
Feel free to come up with a country, town, or port and information! Put it in the OOC Thread and I'll add it to Aertha.
Even pirates have a code of conduct. These rules are for characters in the story, and most of them don't have to be followed except the last one.
● No fighting abroad the pirate ship unless in battle and defense!
● No gambling abroad that involves cards or dice.
● No women (Not all ships adhere to this! Feel free to make Female characters!)
● Pirates must be ready and armed for battle at all times
● Equal amounts of food and beverages for all pirates. All goods stolen will be divided equally among all pirates, with the exception of the Captain and Quartermaster who will get twice their share.
● Pirates who lose a limb in battle will get an extra half a share of any loot.
● All pirates can vote on the trajectory of the ship and its missions. All pirates abide by the orders of the Captain or Quartermaster.
● If at any time you meet with a prudent person; that man or woman who offers to meddle with them, without their consent, shall suffer death.
While much of the current world doesn't believe in the things of myth and magic, they do exist.
Sea witches, Mermaids, Guardians, Monsters, Cursed artifacts. Feel free to suggest some species.
Magic
Magic isn't something the majority of humans can wield. It's the energy and power that runs through Aertha. It's also what grants Mythical creatures their power. However, people can influence magic with practices such as voodoo and contracts with sentient mythical creatures, even if such things are rare. Some people are born sensitive to magic, meaning they can feel it's presence and, very rarely, use small forms of it. People sensitive to magic are thought to be descendants of witches.
There are some who have been cursed, either by influence, or via creature, and it shows it'self in obvious ways. On the other hand, there are those considered favored; People who seem to have magic drawn to them just by breathing, though they can't use magic. They often find themselves back-handly lucky as they end up in sticky situations that wouldn't occur if they weren't favored, but usually find a way out.
Guardians
Guardians are god-like beings said to reside in and protect different forms of nature. They are sentient and sometimes temperamental. Their true forms are unknown, and they are almost never knowingly seen in any form. Many people don't believe the guardians exist anymore, but some still hold to the old belief. People who the Guardians believe have potential for greatness become favored.
Names people call the Guardians are as follows:
Amphine/Kalypso- Guardian of the Sea
Cerine/Baccule- Guardian of the Earth
Atemel/Sular- Guardian of the Sun
Badric/Luna- Guardian of the Moon
Elementals
These mythical creatures are the most similar to humans in appearance, said to be product of the guardians mingling with humans. They are extremely few in number and can cast magic as easy as they breathe. While they share most of the same diet as humans, they only need to feed once every month, and find certain popular foods among humans revolting. Elementals can disguise themselves to live among humans if they wish, but since they usually enjoy seclusion from humans this is rare. They're also known as messengers to the guardians.
Witches
Witches are cousins to humans, said to be created before humans began. They're considered the guardian's mistakes; selfish, spell casting creatures obsessed with becoming more powerful. Despite having longer life spans than humans, most of them have died out. A few still survive today, but they are scarce. Not that you'd actually want to meet any original witches. They're often aggressive towards other species. Though, some say if you capture a witch you can force her to summon an elemental.
Harpy
Harpies are sentient bird-like creatures with the ability to manipulate the effects of their voice on people. They can change physical forms to entirely mimic a bird, or remain in their feathery humanoid shapes. They're equipped with bird-like legs and talons, and can take both male and female forms. When a harpy sings, they can influence a person's emotions and minds, and have lead some sailors to wreck their boats. They are omnivorous scavengers of sorts. Though they won't directly fight something, they will try to use their voice to trap something into to dying without having conflict. Harpies will flee if their songs aren't working or they feel they've lost the upper hand.
The Kraken and the Leviathan
It's said the the Leviathan was Amphine's first creation, a monstrous creature that rules the sea when it is awakened. It rests for centuries in the mysterious depths of the ocean, only awakening when Amphine's bell is tolled. It can reproduce with it'self, but they can only lay one egg in their life time. Killing the Leviathan will awaken it's young, The Kraken.
Mermaids
There are two known types of Mermaid, Scaled and Unscaled. Both can walk on land for a short period of time, but need water to survive. Mermaids are adaptive to different types of water, and hold the same levels of intelligence as humans. Underwater, they are faster than humans, and are nearly unaffected by the pressure in deep water. Their scales are almost always different shades of orange, blue, or gray.
When it comes to magic, Mermaids can't wield it exactly. They can grant the ability to breathe underwater through a kiss, and a healing powder can be made from their scales, but they can't cast magic.
The Unscaled mermaids don't get their name from a lack of scales on their tails, but rather the lack of scales on their skin. They are the most beautiful types of mermaids, being almost entirely human in appearance aside from their tails. However, they are predators equipped with a second pair of retractable teeth that are sharp to a point. They will eat humans if they get the chance. Such creatures, though alluring, are dangerous to meddle with. On land, Unscaled Mermaids can pass as humans quite easily, but people will always find something otherworldly about their appearance. Some people have taken to calling them "Unscathed", because surviving an encounter with one underwater is rare.
The Scaled mermaids are named after the patchy scales that are scattered over their skin in various places. They typically feed on vegetation, and are cautious creatures who try to avoid humans. Their fins are equipped with barbs which release a toxin when punctured that spreads excruciating pain throughout the body. The barbs are mostly used for self defense, and rarely used to attack. Though Scaled Mermaids are quite beautiful, many people find their random scales and pointed ears to be unappealing and sometimes intimidating. Scaled mermaids have a lower population than Unscaled due to often being eaten by them or larger sea creatures.
To Be Added
I will be adding on to this as the roleplay goes.
