Adventure of the Cursed

Another success. Another curse broken and another one gained. The trick has been set and the world was being changed and morphed in front of her eyes. She couldn't help but feel like she was flying and the lights and sparkles surrounded her. The rush was like nothing she could describe! Almost like driving with the window down in the middle of the stars. Except you could breath.

Landing was a bit of a different story. It consisted of a flash of light, then nothing. Nothing was really visible for a few moments that she was trying to adjust her vision. Just a very bright whiteness. Melody could say that it was the worst part of changing worlds. However it only lasted maybe a few seconds. Most may say that the shift was not that big of a deal. Seemed kind of normal. Walking out of somewhere dark and straight into the light, you'd experience the same thing. Melody wasn't sure why this bothered her... it was a mystery perhaps for another day.

Melody had on her a tan backpack made of sturdy cloth. She also had on a belt that kind of had the same style to it. Pockets lined the belt and only an endless amount of things could be in it. A thin blue crystal hung from her neck on a thick black string. Her hair shinned a pretty black color, almost a bit purple. It was a small pixie cut, except for the long strand of hair on the side of her face, which currently was braided.

The clothing she wore matched that of what the people from her previous worlds often would be seen in. The last world she visited was like a gigantic oasis. The people they wore mostly robes with layers to keep the sun from burning them.

When her vision returned, she was standing in the middle of clouds. Wait- clouds?!

That was when Melody suddenly felt a rush of air blow past her and she began to plummet to the ground. "DEWBERRYS!" Melody shouted as she fell. Sadly enough she screamed a bit before she landed on top of something. It actually kind of hurt, but she was still falling. So in an effort to right herself, she grabbed hold and held on for dear life. Which included wrapping her arms around said object / person's waist.

Cross was seething. Furious even. It wasn't like anything new had happened today--same taunts, same chiding remarks, same looks of disappointment--he was just fed up with them. Cross drew his blade and faced a small patch of Weisschrank, slicing it repeatedly over the course of a few seconds. When he was done, he had what appeared to be a semblance of a face made out of cloud. Cross sheathed the blade back on its sheathe, upon his left hip, before punching the crap out of that cloud face.

"Take THAT! and THAT and THAT and THAT--"

Cross finally kicked the mass so hard that it segmented into hundreds of tiny fluff balls, moving slowly through the atmosphere. He stood there, panting, while his wings flapped every few seconds to keep him in the same spot. Well, it hadn't changed anything, but heavenly skies had that felt good.

It was right then that Cross heard something rushing in the wind, accompanied by what sounded like a scream. He had barely started to look up right as something, or someone, collided with him, dragging both of them down.

"What in the name of the sky's blessed tits?!"

It became readily apparent that something was clinging around Cross's waist, and judging by the strength of the grip, it wasn't going to let go anytime soon. He looked down, and saw a patch of shiny black hair, along with a vaguely avian form. Okay, so it wasn't a predator, at least not that he could tell

"So, you have a way of introducing yourself that doesn't involve colliding into someone?"

Melody grasped his waist as tight as she could, her face pressed against him just as tight. She heard him speak, but she was so scared that her reponses were completely scattered, "I don't think the sky has tits. But if it is your goddess I don't think you should be using that kind of language!!" Melody yeelled at him. The wind was buffing her lightly as she swung from the boy.

She reallt did grab a boy! She was saved! Oh well she just told him what to do... lets not piss him off, "Ahh... well you can say whatever you want!! Just please don't drop me!" Melody cried loudly.

Okay, something was very off. Cross did not know what a 'goddess' was: "skies blessed tits" was simply a curse one did not use in polite company. Also, she wasn't trying to fly on her own . . . where were her wings?

"Oh for pity's sake--hold on."

Cross reached to his belt and pulled off a glove that looked like it belonged on an evil warlords hand. It was clawed, and had several spikes running along the palm curved downward. If you were to hit someone with it, it would probably leave a nasty gash. The avian looked around for a little bit, and then saw his target. He gave one flap of his wings, sending the two of them suddenly to the right, and into a small chunk of floating dirt. His left hand stuck into the island, which caused the two of them to slide for about ten feet before coming to a complete stop. Without the rushing wind, the girl would be able to see that clouds were slowly drifting by, and far FAR above them was a much larger floating island. There was barely any solid ground in sight

"Okay, this really isn't funny. Where by all the heavenly skies are your wings?"

Melody held onto the boy tightly, getting jolted a bit when he slamed into the side of the floating rock. Melody had to stop and look around her once the wind subsided lightly. She looked up at the large rock in awe. It was simply beautiful. Not the most neautiful thing she had ever seen, but it was somthing to look at. She almost missed the question that the boy asked.

"I don't have wings." Melody said, though she was still under the assumption that 'Skies' was a goddess of his world. "I'm here visiting. This place is very beautiful!" Melody praised.

"You--you're--"

Cross could not comprehend the statement that had just been said. Everything had wings. You needed wings to fly, and everything flew in this world. For someone to not have wings . . . it was like someone not having skin.

"Okay, hold on a second. I'm going to get to the top of this rock where we can have a proper conversation."

Cross flapped his wings once, which sent the two of them a few feet up the rock face, and then promptly dug his gauntlet in again. This process repeated about four or five times before he clambered over the top, which was slightly grassy but otherwise fairly nondescript. The whole thing was about 30 feet across at where they lay. Cross' bare chest was soaked in a thin layer of sweat from the exertion. One did not normally carry another creature about their size with them when they flew or climbed.

"Now . . . you mind explaining yourself mystery girl?"

When they were on the ground, Melody practically slid down Cross. She took a moment to hug the ground. "The sky.. usually it is so pretty... but it's really scary when you are falling though it." She told Cross. He asked her to explain herself, but she just seemed to be in more awe about her surroundings.

Standing up, Melody started to pat herself off before dropping her backpack on the ground and taking off the robes she was wearing to revile underneath the layers was just a simple pair of blue shorts made out of sturdy material as well and a pretty frilly light pink blouse. "Ah.. it feels great up here! It is almost like I am flying... just standing on this rock!" She said. It only took her a few minutes to recover from the possibly almost death. To Cross's surprise, she had no wings. Even after she took off the tick robes she was in.

Finally she turned to look at Cross, "Alright, so you want an explanation?" She asked Cross. "I'm here.... to touch the wings of a batroo monster! A very large one. That may or may not be aggressive." Melody said with a grin, her hands on the robe that was flapping around through the wind. She had no idea what a batroo was... it was just the trick she needed to preform. "Oh yeah, also my name is Melody. I'm a Vutepht, a wingless alien!" She said, and open palm hitting the top of her chest as she introduced herself.

Cross had a look of pure shock on his face as the woman disrobed in front of him. Down to only a single layer of clothing, it was very apparent that she did not--in fact--have wings. While similar in appearance (minus the wings) her features were not as angled as avians usually were, and avians only had green or blue eyes, not the color of hers.

"An . . . alien? What by all the streams is an alien?"

Cross unconsciously took a step back. He wasn't quite sure this woman was sane, whatever she was.

Melody pointed to the sky, "I come from the stars!" Melody told Cross. "I travel to diffrent worlds." Melody told Cross, "see diffrent things and meet new people!" Melody said happily.

"The stars? You mean . . . from beyond the sky?"

Beyond the sky was something that was told of often in folklore, occasionally in serious talks. Some Avians had spent their life in search of what lay beyond the sky. Some came back decades later, saying they could not reach it. Most simply were never seen again.

"Yes!" Melody said with a bright smile. "It is very dark and silent... but beautiful at the same time." Melody opened her arms wide, "This world is beautiful in its own right. Say, what is it like to fly?" She was sure it was not going to be easy to tell her was he probably able to do it at birth. She

d not be able to tell him what it was like to walk. or be wingless.

"I . . . hold on."

Cross put a hand to his forehead and massaged it a little bit. This was too much to take in all at once. Beyond the sky existed, according to this girl, and she didn't have wings, plus she seemed to know nothing about everything he had known about for his whole life. It was a tad overwhelming to say the least

"You're a very odd girl."

"I get that a lot." She looked around for a moment, even spinning as she did so before coming full circle back to Cross, "What is your name again? And how do I get around? Also do you know where that monster is..?"

"One question at a time miss . . . Melody."

Cross took a deep breath and sat down cross-legged. He let his wings lay dormant, they needed their rest after what had just happen

"My name: is Cross. Everyone gets around in this world through flight . . . a capability which for reasons I can't understand you seem to lack. And the Batroo . . . yes, I know where it is, and no, I'm not taking you there."

"What?!" Melody asked, shook washed over her face, "No, you don't understand. I NEED to touch one!" Melody said waving her hands around rather frantically. "If you won't take me... can you tell me where? I'll go myself!"

Cross gave the woman a look like she had no idea what she was getting herself into

"If you must know: You cliff-dive off this hunk of rock and head toward the borealis skies, where the Varilis stream lies. Take that stream for about 20 minutes, then ascend immediately into the Gragyos stream, and follow that for another 30 minutes, before diving straight down into the Captula Maelstrom. Of course, to do any of that you would need to have wings. Something you notably lack."

Cross brushed his knees off and walked to the edge of the rock

"Besides, I don't know what's got you in such desperation, but it isn't worth your life."

"I half way dont think you would belive me if I told you..." Melody told Cross. "You see... my life is kind of depended on it. I'm cursed... bbbbbyyy this one curse... so you see. If I don't touch it... then I can't break the curse." She tried to explain to him.

"What's a curse?"

Cross tilted his head slightly to the sigh

"You keep using words that I don't understand."

"Ah... a curse is when you are... hindered by magic... to er... do things. Depending on the curse.. depends on the things you can't do." Melody tried to explain. She used wide hand gestures to try and explain with hand motions as much as words. Though to be honest it seemed pointless.

"Magic? It almost sounds like you're referring to wind Arte's, but I've never heard of Arte's like that."

Cross ruffled his feathers a bit, testing the wind

"We shouldn't stay here too long, it won't be safe when the sky darkens."

"Can I come with you?" Melody asked Cross, she collapsed her hands together in a begging motion, "I have no where to go... At least drop me off at a hotel. Pretty please."

Cross gave Melody a quizzical look

"I don't know what this 'hotel' you speak of is, but yes you can come with. Otherwise you'll probably be eaten before sunrise."

Cross walked up to the edge of the island and put one of his wings out over the side, feeling the wind run through his feathers. If he was going to be taking a passenger, he needed a different flight path from normal

"Eaten.... by what?" Melody asked Cross following behind him. She had no idea how he was going to carry her and him. Though to be honest she wasn't that heavy... it was the massive amount of stuff she carried with here that was heavy.

Cross gave a frown and turned around, walking to the other side of the island

"Rocs, Velocidromes, Cascavs, any manner of nocturnal creature. But the one thing they have in common is none of them are friendly."
