I've been a huge fan of Exalted since I first saw the flash animation teaser on the White Wolf website that plugged the new high fantasy setting as a WoD prequel. Obviously, since then there has been talk about crossing WoD into Exalted and vice versa. You can find countless threads of this flavor on countless different forums and they all turn out to be the same conversation. Those who favor the cross-over idea end up having a flaming festival with the WoD and the Exalted purists that believe the two games are their own entities.
This is NOT one of those threads!!!
What I want to get at here is not so much conversion, but adaptation. Taking various elements from other game settings and finding a way to make it fit in Exalted (or the other way around for that matter). For example, just moments ago, posted an idea I've been tossing around about adapting a version of Dragonmarks from the D&D setting of Eberron into Exalted as a variant style of tattoo artifact.
I've also been working on countless ideas for storylines for any games that I may run. Once again, I've been looking at old D&D adventures for inspiration. Some of my favorites are:
Red Hand of Doom
Eyes of the Lich Queen
Shattered Gates of Slaughterguard
Think about it for a moment:
In Red hand of Doom, there's a powerful dragonkin who is gathering an army of every type of monster you can think of in order to lay waste to the countryside and ultimately summon the evil Tiamat, Queen of the evil chromatic dragons. This could easily be an akuma or Green Sun Prince working his way up to open a gateway into Malfeas to allow more powerful demons into Creation.
Eyes of the Lich Queen is what inspired my new tattoo artifact idea. I also see various Dragon King elements, including the Orrery where the final battle takes place. I personally have a special place in my geeky heart for Dragon Kings. Further the Orrery from this adventure could easily be located within the ruined city of Rathess.
Shattered Gates of Slaughterguard just has Reclamation written all over it. The location within the region in which this adventure takes place, known as the Slaughterscar, is all that remains in the Material Realm from a botched attempt to bring a part of an evil, demonic realm in its place. Then the Obelisks located throughout the region are said to keep the evil at bay. Okay, the Slaughterscar could be the remains of a failed attempt to merge a piece of Malfeas within Creation that could have occurred sometime after the Primordial War but before the Ursupation . The obelisks could be small-scale reality engines meant to keep this rip in reality shut. This adventure also contains what could be equivalents to a new Cult of the Illuminated camp and a demonic cult who have been at odds with each other for a long time.
These are only some of the ideas floating in my head. What do you think? Anyone have anything to add?
