Thomdril, or Thom for short, is a peculiar man. If 100 people asked him what his life has been like, he would have 100 different answers. Because that's what Thom is. A storyteller, a musician, an actor, a Bard. Thom ventures the land, playing for room and board, in the nicest of taverns, to the slummiest of bars. The thing is, for all his travels and exploits, no one knows who Thom is. Every town, a different name, and a different face. Every town, a new girl, and a new story. Thom always is a sucker for pretty faces. That's why he travels so much. Not for adventure, or fame, but because he is running. You see, long ago, before Thom had a different name and a different face for every town, before he was a master of his craft, when he was still just a lowly man, playing on the streets for copper, he was in love. Enamored with a local noble's daughter, he wooed her with his honeyed words and musical prowess. A forbidden love, and a passionate love at that. However, such passion has consequences, and nine months later, Thom had a son, and a bounty on his head.
Of course, that would make a fabulous story. One of love, and adventure, and maybe even redemption. But sadly, the truth is hardly so fanciful. It wasn't a noble's daughter, and it wasn't a bounty on his head. His love was just the local tavern wench, and what he is running from is responsibility. A lot of responsibility. Every town has a beautiful tavern wench, and Thom is a sucker for pretty faces.
Over time, Thom perfected his craft. A man on the run cannot survive without coin, and Thom was neither strong nor smart, but he could play to a crowd with no problem. He could play to women's sympathy, and a man's understanding. His silver tongue earned him gold wherever he went, and his loose fingers spent it as quickly as he earned it.
Of course, not everyone is appreciative of a wanderer wooing the tavern wench they had an eye on. Bar fights were the name of the game on rowdy nights, and blades were oft drawn in anger. Now Thom is no master duelist, but he can handle his rapier well enough, as a few dead men will attest to. Anyone would learn to handle a blade while living a life on the run, especially if most of your nights were spent in less than reputable places.
Even more so, children feel anger at a father that abandoned them. Thom feels remorse over leaving his children behind, and regret that they will probably never find him. A new face, a new name, and a new story. Maybe one day he'll track down every girl, and every child, but for now, he continues on.
So every town, village, city, and hamlet, a new face, a new name, a new story.
So he runs. And runs, and runs, and runs. Never letting himself stop, or slow down. But Thom is getting old. He just witnessed his 53rd summer, and his body grows tired, his voice strained, and his joints ache. Thom knows for certain that he will have to settle down soon, and pass into history, but for now, he has one last hurrah in him, one last story to be told. And something gives him the feeling that it will all begin in Daggerford.
