The sun beat down between the trees of the northern mountains of the US. Many people were gathered in the middle of a camp where there were dozens of cabins with lots of beds. All of them were co-ed.

All the people gathering were no older than 20 years old. They had all been training to become helpers for a new group forming to become the new government of the US and to try to restore everything. Or so they are lead to believe.

Standing in the middle of the group was a young woman. She stood about 5'7 and had ebony hair that reached her feet. Her eyes were a nice dark brown. She was known as Selinsa Hilanto. Also the talk of the boys among camp. This didn't surprise her as she was one of three girls in the camp, her being the oldest and the other two were fifteen and sixteen.

Today was everyone's initiation, everyone was going to receive a partner and state, or former state, to go to to take care of and recruit others.

Maximilian stood in the centre of the gathered crowd, one hand idly toying with the crystal pendant that he always wore. He was excited about today, finally he was being initiated. He was looking forward to the days after today, he would have a purpose. He had been roped into this camp with promises of glory and helping humanity recover from the apocalypse. They would be the new Government; a better, fairer Government without corruption. They'd restore the country to it's former glory.

Silly Max, so naive.

He wondered who his partner was and where he'd have to go and recruit. Part of him hoped it wasn't too far, travelling was terrible and dangerous, but somewhere far away was new and exciting. He turned his attention to the front, waiting for the announcements to start.

"Testing, testing," a man's voice came onto the microphone from the stage. "ATTENTION!" he shouted at all of them. The group quickly moved into formation and faced the stage looking like soldiers.

"Congratulations to you all, you are the one hundred men and women, out of three hundred that started, that have managed to complete training!" He then says clapping. "Applaud yourselves, I know my training wasn't easy. But at least now you can thoroughly run through the desert for a good few hours without a drink, you know how to use your selected weapon with precision, and also know how to defend yourself and someone else! And most importantly! You all know how to work as a team!" He said with a big old grin and everyone cheered loudly.

Selinsa simply stood and watched. Everyone said they didn't want her as a partner, that she wasn't a team player, and they were convinced that were she given the chance she would kill them in their sleep to have the excuse not to have a partner.

He proudly stood at attention, the old spanners hanging from his belt swinging slightly with the sudden movement. It was true, the training had been almost beyond brutal, he'd seen people die during it. He'd been no good at gun handling, but he had a strong swing and them being large meant they doubled as a great defense if he was attacked. Everyone around him applauded and he joined in, so excited to start mending this broken country.

"Now, as you all know, you are all going to be partnered up with someone who compliments your skills and will be of use to your during your protection detail and recruiting. Now, what is most important, is that you will be sent into individual states. We are currently in Washington, so none of you will be staying here," he instructs looking across them all.

"NOW!!!!" He shouts loudly, a lot of people cover their ears. "Starting with Million Jaons, and Grindo Franks!" He calls out and the two boys step forward.

Max was one of those to cover his ears when the man shouted, damn he was so so loud. He wasn't surprised those two got paired together, they did almost all of their training together, they had some serious bromance going on. He shifted his weight to his other foot and glanced around at the gathered people, wondering who he was going to be paired with.

He continued to call up pairs. Finally it was time. "Maximillion(insert last name) and Selinsa Hilanto!" He called. Immediate whispers broke out. A lot were saying that he was so unlucky, and wondering how on earth they complimented each other. She frowned and glared at everyone as she headed up to the stage in a stiff manner. Her two pistols were visible on each of her hips. And the blades were in cross straps that were in her back. She wore a red mini skirt over black leggings, and a tank top.

Selinsa?

Honestly, he didn't mind. He found her a fascinating human being, even if they'd never had anything to do with each other beyond training. He pushed through the crowd, which parted with whispers of 'good luck with her' and 'how long till she kills him?' they did nothing for his worries at all. He made his way up the stairs and onto the stage, daring to smile politely at her. She was a little scary, after all.

Selinsa stared at him for a moment before the leader of the camp spoke and she looked to him. "Selinsa, Maximillion, from here on out you two will be partners. You both will go to what used to be the state of Idaho. It has lots of mountain's and forests despite being a desert state. Most of its people retreated to those mountains," he says looking at them.

"Now shake hands and go get ready," he says. Selinsa looked at Maximillion with a simple sigh and held her hand out to him to shake.

He could feel her staring at him and he wondered if she was already plotting his death, that was the rumour about how she worked. At least they got to somewhere niceish? He always liked mountains, climbing them not so much... but looking at them for sure.

Max met Selinsa's gaze quickly as she extended her hand and he extended his own, gripping it firmly and shaking it once before letting it go and heading off towards the supplies area.

Selinsa jumped off the stage and headed with him to the supply area. All the supplies were sorted according to terrain and weather. Mountain, desert, water, flatland, winter, spring, summer, fall.

She first walked over to the Mountain Fall supplies. Since it was fall, almost winter, in Idaho she began to look through heavy duty hiking and snow boots. They were in Arizona so they weren't going to feel like it was fall or winter here. She wondered if her partner had studied each state like they were supposed to.

If so he would know that the mountains of Idaho harbored very harsh winters with knee deep snow and below zero temperatures. She sighed softly shaking her head as she finally found a pair of boots. She then began going through the warm clothes and chose several shirts and sweats, along with a very nice coat with fur lining. It was worn but still in decent condition.

No one was approaching the table where she was. They were all whispering that if they took anything she might have wanted she may hurt them badly. Selinsa then moved onto cooking supplies and drinking supplies, then headed back for her cabin to pack.

Once Selinsa was done picking her clothing for their trip, Max sorted through to find things that would fit him. Some warm boots, a warm jacket and some shirts and pants. The jacket had a few tears, but it was better than nothing. He could hear the others whispering about the two of them as he draped the chosen clothing over one arm, looking up at them every now and then.

Clothing chosen, he went and grabbed some cooking and drinking supplies, kind of wishing Selinsa had waited for him so they didn't double up on anything. Then again she didn't seem the sharing type, so he just grabbed what he would need and like her, went to his cabin to pack everything.

She was packed very quickly and jogged out with her pack on her back and walked over to the freezer area to stock up on food, which she had a separate pack for that was made to hold cold items in it.

She chose several things if venison, avoided the bear meat... that stuff was so hard to cook. She grabbed several things of meat she planned to turn into jerky. She then grabbed several fruits, mangos, a lot of strawberries, raspberries. She felt disgusted with herself. At least her disguise was working. Who knew that none of them suspected her of infiltrating the biggest growing "new government"?

She knew the truth and what they were doing. Which us why she planned to work her way through the ranks until she was working next to the leader himself. Then she would kill him and watch his pawns fall and scatter. She sighed softly as she grabbed several cabbages, heads of lettuce, tomatoes, celery, all the good vegetables you needed to survive.

She shook her head. They also controlled the worlds food supplies. That's why the men never wanted for food while others were starving. Granted, about once a year they did food drives in each old state in whatever towns are left. But she knew they had enough food stockpiled to last two years in the new worlds condition.

She pushed back the horrible memories that started to push back into her mind and stood up straight as her pack was full of what they would need. She looked over and saw the solar powered car labeled Idaho and sighed and looked around for her new partner.

(Huh I was sure I posted :| Waah)

Finally, his bags were packed. He had enough food to last himself for the trip, the bags were heavy and he was grateful that they supplied vehicles for travel. He made his way across to the car marked 'Idaho' and noticed that Senlinsa was already waiting inside, hopefully he wouldn't say anything to make her angry. So many rumours were spread around about her and her temper and he believed them all.

"Sorry to keep you waiting." He set his begs into the back of the car. "I wanted to make sure I hadn't forgotten anything."

She shrugs. "Works for me," she says simply as she started the car and looked around. Tey were right on the border of Washington and Idaho, she was curious how far they had to go. She reached over getting into the jockey box and pulled out a map, which she unfolded after closing the jockey box.

She looked at the map curiously and noticed there was a mark on the map in the foot hills above the main valley of Idaho. "So... looks like we're going close to the old capital," she says nodding as she refolds the map and sets it in the middle seat. "Hurr up and get in!" she snapped.

This was going to be so fun... not. He chewed his lower lip and closed the back door, hurrying to sit in the front seat. He pulled the door closed and looked over at her.

"Sorry, I uh, yeah, let's go." Please don't kill me. Please don't kill me. "Do you want me to uh... read the map or something?"

She rolls her eyes as she begins to take off in the car. "That would be helpful," she mumbles as she drives out of the camp and onto a main road. This guy was obviously scared of her. Not that she cared though, everyone thought she was some sort of paranoid killer and that whoever partnered with her would end up dead.

Granted, she didn't like being thought of that way, but it was honestly easier to be thought of that way and not get too close to people than to get close to them and have them die on you.

She supposed she should set some rules. "Alright Max, rule number one, stay out of trouble, this means don't go running off unless it's a day off the company gives us," she says glancing from him from time to time as she says this. "Rule two, food is scarce, as we've been taught, we must ration it as much as possible," she says once more.

"Rule three, whatever you think about me is wrong," she says, thinking she might possibly regret that one. She didn't like getting close to people, but she knew that to work as an effective team you had to trust each other, and already, he didn't trust her one bit, she could see that.

He twisted his mouth a little and grabbed the map, unfolding it and looking at the markers on the paper. As she starts to talk, he raises his head and looks over at her. Rule one was common sense, plus, running off could easily get him killed. People were pretty ruthless now days. Rule two, again, common sense. No use gorging yourself on the rations only to starve to death later. He'd never had a huge appetite, so small meals suited him just fine.

"Rule three, whatever you think about me is wrong,"

Wait, what? No. really. What?!

"What do you mean?" He asked, confused. "You're..." He hesitated. "Not the uh... person everyone says you are?"
