[A Time Apart] (Current IC) What once was

By the time Bria and Rose get back to the infirmary, only Ryuuka and Ilusia are there. Rose gives a cry and goes over to Ilusia, falling into her arms. "Oh my gods, I was fae attacked in the trees, and he threatened to overrun the town."

Rose's comment starts getting Ilusia worked up, and if someone doesn't do something the two women will probably start a panic in no time.

"Excuse me." Dylan says to the man working by the fire. "You wouldn't happen to be the forgemaster, would you?"

"Eh?" The man looks up, his face red from being near the flames. "Close as it comes here, at least. All of us can at least hammer metal, but I can put a better edge than most of the rest. Unless you're looking to buy a blade though, ain't much I can make."

"Not exactly what I'm after. I'm starting a project for Rose Blossom." Dylan decides to simply cut to the chase. "I want to make some medical tools for her, and I need some pieces of unworked steel to do so."

Fae? What were they doing here? Jake had been under the impression that they kept to the Wyld. Then again, they were in the far East, so perhaps it wasn't unexpected to see one. But what was it doing, ripping up the forrest like that? Fae by their nature were inscrutable, but that just seemed weird, even for them.

Triggering another Charm, Jake turned his head to the side, hoping to catch a snippet of conversation that would let him know just what was going on.

"Steel eh? How much you looking for, and what you paying? I got plenty of pig iron, but if you're wanting steel that actually takes effort to make. Effort I could be putting to making a blade out of it."

Grant:

"Let's say tomorrow. Where ya staying at?" The captain gives a look over Grants shoulder to Dylan, a touch of confusion on his face.

Jake:

"-ind that damned person who changed the damn treaty and I'll eat the damned guy alive. I'll flay him and make his memories into a beautiful behemoth and maybe that will count as not Fae and I can send it against that damned ground town. Stupid treaty." The fae kicks one of the closer goblins back up another tree. "Hey, why haven't you found anyone yet!?"

“I just arrived today. Haven’t taken lodgings yet,” the Sentinel answers easily.

Grant, by contrast, wonders what the heck Dylan is up to.

"You're welcome to bunk here then. Hang around for a while anyways, I'll be sending out this group to take over gate duty and you can meet most of the rest of the men that are still on their feet."

So the Fae was looking for someone who had apparently broken the local Treaty. Jake didn't envy the poor guy who got himself caught in that mess. He decided to try and see if he could spot the runner before the Fae. Perhaps he could lead the poor soul back to the village without incident.

Switching to looking for any humans in the forest. Poor Jake, he has no idea how much trouble this will cause for everyone :P

It takes several long moments before Jake finds a sole runner using the treeways to cross the forest. Unbeknownst to them, they are running almost directly towards the fae, on the way to Black Branches. Jake sees that the fae kicks a few goblins up the tree, before almost floating up himself. The goblins and the fae will likely be able to catch the man at any moment.

Well, this would be problematic. He would have to do this carefully, or else he would just lead the man straight to the Fea. Drawing his bow from Elsewhere, he drew back an arrow and let it fly, aiming right in front of the path of the runner. His goal was to fire an arrow in front of the runner every time they went in the wrong direction, with the intent of leading them back to civilization and to avoid the Fae tearing apart the forest in their search.

Dexterity 5 + Archery 5 = Ten Dice = 7 Successes.

Applying There Is No Wind for 5 Motes to make a perfect shot directly in front of the man.

To make things quicker, I can pay around 5-15 more motes to skip the additional shots required to lead the man back to the city, however many you feel is appropriate.

"Oh, that's terrible!" says Ryuuka, sounding shocked. "But please, don't worry. After all, I'm sure the town is ready to deal with this kind of thing... and if not... well, I'm sure I can deal with at least a couple of fae myself." smile.

Jake:

The first arrow shot almost catches the runner in the foot, and he dives onto another branch, eyes wild as he looks around for his attacker. Seeing nothing, he continues on his path, directly to Black Branches, but much more aware. A second arrow stops his run again.

Worried now, the young runner starts off in a different direction, at least this time further away from the fae. After only a few dozen yards, he again tries to cut back to his original path.

The third arrow makes the young runner turn and run completely away from Branches.

Ryuuka:

Ilusia seems to calm down her intended enough that Ryuuka's words penetrate, and Rose turns in Ilusia's arms. "You're the second of your friends to say that. Who are you people? There are godbloods that don't speak with the same assurance as you all do."

"Maybe we're just a little arrogant." jokes Ryuuka, hoping she can distract her from worrying. "Really, I don't think the fae would dare break their treaty."

"That one was claiming we already had." Rose shudders. "Something about changing the treaty." She looks to Bria. "You got away from him, do you know any more?"

Glad the runner finally took the hint, Jake waits to see if and when the runner will try to make his way back to Branches. As his goal was to keep the man out of the grip of the Fae while letting him return to the city, he had no further need fire.

Given that three shots were fired in your Storyteller Post, I am going to reduce my Personal Motes to 2 to reflect the additional arrows.

The young runner does not turn back around while Jake is watching, although there are a few goblins now getting perilously close to the tree he is in.

Bria looks around the room as if expecting the rest of them to be hiding in cabinets, "Yes, I know more. For now, it is enough to know that we have time, and we must find the others we came with. Ryuuka, do you know where they went? We need to have a whole big meeting thing and now."

"Oh. Um. I think one of us went bandit-hunting, and someone else went to find the guards?" Emily hasn't been paying enough attention.

"Ok, stay with these two and keep a lid on this. If you can get their accounts of what happened here over calibration that would be awesome. I think something major happened to affect the memory of everyone here." Bria speaks to Ryuuka even though the other two are clearly in the room, and then she runs out looking for the others. Guards won't be far so there first...

"Dylan, I think his name was, went to go talk to the guard about getting some material to, well" Ilusia pauses, considering Rose in her arms still. "Well, to get something to make a payment to Rose here."

Rose kisses her intended as she steps away from her.
