[A Time Apart] (Current IC) What once was

"I don't know what you're talking about!" Bria shouts before ducking behind a trunk grasping for her own blade. Moving toward Rose while staying out of sight claws and tail grow out from her skin which shifts to match the waving canopy. Peeking around she tries to see how Rose is doing.

Shifting to warform and trying to hide or at least buy some time.

Bria:

"Oh, you're a Lunar!" The man claps his hands in glee. "Are we going to play?" His sword fades away, only for Bria to watch as strands of something are reworked into a hat, shoulder coat, and magnifying glass. The man peers throught the trees with the glass, staring directly at Bria. "You know, you're not very good at this. But if I catch you, do I get answers?"

Bria, on the other hand, scrambles away from the two through the trees.

Grant:

"You'll have to talk to the captain then, he'll need to know." THe guard gives you directions through the town. "He'll get you all set up." He looks Grant over. "Though doesn't look like you'll need much, maybe a sword to go along with that shield."

The Sentinel chuckles. “Maybe. Though a shield can be effective just by itself.” As Grant says the words, does the shield twitch a little on her back, as if eager to be used?

“Thank you for the directions. I guess I’ll be seeing you again later…?” the Sentinel trails off, inquiringly, waiting for the man’s name.

"Ah, sorry. Hirson Carrig. And you're?"

Ignore that last part if you've already introduced yourself, I can't recall and it's not on this page.

:P

Emily smiles a little. "Well that's nice to hear. I thought I was the only one not heading for a mass of angst about this. But yeah, hiding is a good idea, assuming we can hide."

“Grant,” replies Grant automatically, then kicks herself mentally.

“I was called Liberty’s Sentinel, though, in another time and place,” the Sentinel continues, hardly missing a beat as he shakes the other man’s hand. “Looks like it might be time for me to become that man again. A very good day to you, Mister Carrig. Walker, I’ll see you later…or maybe I won’t, considering your skills… ” and with a smile and a wink, he sets off to find the captain of the guard.

Grant's directions lead him, her?, to a fairly large building on the northern edge of town, just inside the high walls. Whereas most of the rest of the buildings here seem to be made of a mishmash of woods, this particular building seems to have been built out of strong oak and steel bandings, making the walls nearly impenetrable by mortal hands.

However, the steel banded oak door opens easily enough, and the first sight Grant gets is several men sitting around sharpening blades on whetstones, and one man actually has a small fire going, venting out into either another room or out a back wall and is working some metal in there.

Sharp swords and light leather armors line the walls, along with a few dozen beds. Apparently, this building serves as armory, smithy, and barracks.

One man, scar trailing across his cheek and through his eye, looks at Grant from where he's sitting, working on some papers. Oddly, both eyes seem to easily focus on the Sentinel, though the one with the scar through it has a certain glitter in the light. "Yer new. What can I do for ya?"

Crap uh.. Fae.. right? Aren't they supposed to stay out of the trees... Oh.

Standing straight she stares at the searcher with one eye and watches Rose escaping with the other, "I am here to investigate what is going on here, and why. I assure you, the treaty will be upheld. If you would like to tell your version of the story now is the time. I am quite sure these people would not have intruded without reason so be careful what you say." Her tail coils and uncoils suggesting that lies will not go over well here.

What were those idiots thinking?!

I assume that was Rose scrambling through the trees away from here? Also please tell me there was enough time for mote regen while we were travelling/hanging out in village... have hearthstone as well.

"Well, we do have two dawns and a twilight in our...circle." Man, that felt weird to say seriously. "We're going to end up revealing ourselves eventually. The important thing is to do it on our terms. Make sure that the people that see us already like us, and won't go around telling any Immaculates or Sidereals."

"No, no, no. See, that's the problem." The fae shakes his head and snaps his fingers, an ornate scroll appearing in midair, unfurling by itself. As the Fae speaks, his voice takes on an echoing overtone. "The party hereto known as the Fae do hereby agree to the following terms, so long as the mortals known as the Haltans break no accord nor flee the lands only to return."

He coughs. "To the Haltans are given the trees, and so long as their foot rests not upon the ground shall the Fae hold themselves back from devouring their ever so delicious dreams and fears." The fae slurps a bit, and the overtone drops. "Oh sorry, I haven't had a really good meal in a couple of days. Do you mind sharing a snack? No? Alright." He looks dissapointed.

He then coughs. "Anyways," and the overtone is back. "So long as there are trees in the East to hide upon, any mortal that walks underneath them may rightfully be considered the property and game of whichever Fae finds themselves interested in them."

The overtone drops once more. "Sounds good and right and true and perfectly justifiable right? I mean, we give you the trees and your monkeys. If you want to be people, we get to eat you. Fair's fair. But then, this appeared. Appeared I tell you! And it was not signed against, but it's on the treaties and now you get the ground too!"

The Fae's voice doubles once more. "And so long as trees are overhead, the Fae may have those on the ground. Those who walk upon the earth with no tree to flee to, however, may consider themselves upon the highest tree, inviolate to the Fae's hunt."

Suddenly the scroll is gone and the fae is standing in front of Bria, poking her with a single, very long finger between the breasts in her sterum. "So then I find that there's suddenly a village on the ground where there used to be a village in the trees, and the trees are GONE and the treaty's CHANGED and I AM SO ANGRY THAT it was CHANGED and WE'RE PLAYING BY THE RULES and YOU'RE NOT!"

2 die stunt, and yes you had plenty of time to regenerate motes.

Grant:

"We're always looking for recruits. What do ya bring besides a strong back? Ya any good in a fight or we gonna have to teach you the basics on how not to die?" The man stands, setting the paperwork aside and comes up to Grant, looking him over.

Bria frowns and pushes aside the finger. "When did this happen? I was not informed of formal changes."

ok, reconfiguring things to start mote spendy out here in the woods, let me know if I should adjust further

"Days ago. During that oh so wonderful Calibration that makes things so much closer to what they should be! But this shouldn't be! And mortals don't chop down an entire section of the forest, get rid of the stumps, rebuild an entire town in the open, and then go about like that's completely and utterly," his next word is filled with contempt, "normal within a few days."

The fae pauses. "Well, unless one of us did it. But we didn't, and we didn't amend the treaty to let them do that. I want answers, and if I have to get my liege to let me break the treaty to get them from that town, I WILL!"

Dylan and anyone left in the infirmary

There is a polite knock at the front door, before it opens. A woman stands there with a basket under her arm. You can all smell a warm bread scent rising. "Umm, is Rose here?"

Brin grins amused, "Are you sure? It wasn't one of us who did it either."

Frowning again, "But this is a serious matter to be playing with. Maybe there is a trace of what caused it still lingering. If you agree to stop raiding this village during my investigation, I will give you my word that I will find out what did this. If I cannot the village will move."

Crap crap can I even do that?!

Wits + socialize to figure out what sort of arrangement the Fae is actually likely to want or accept?

"I don't think you understand." Suddenly, the fae seems to be a lot bigger, like a predator staring down at his prey. "I'm the official lorekeeper for Lord Slulura. If I have to go back and tell him the treaty changed and his signature is still binding, he'll throw a fit. And I mean a fit like tearing me apart and anyone else he can get his hands on, and then if he's not satisified with that, which he won't be, he'll decide that if you're going to cheat he might as well too, and start redefining things, like what exactly is a tree. Have you ever seen a tree that can eat people? I have. I can make a couple of them if I want to show you, but lord Slulura can do it to a whole village worth of trees. Do you want to see these people have to chose between being eaten by a tree or coming onto the ground to be taken by us? I mean, we've actually done pretty well in this game so CHANGING THE RULES ISN'T THE WAY TO GO!"

Interesting, apparently Fae don't really need to breath if they don't want to, because Bria is almost positive he didn't take a breath through that entire diatribe.

"You've got until sunup before I start looking for answers myself, little Lunar. Go quickly now."

And then the Fae sits down in the tree, almost serenely, eyes closed in meditation.

You get the feeling that the Fae might be willing to keep talking, but if you don't get him to extend the deadline, you know you'll be wasting valuable time as well. Perhaps a concession or two might net you a decent increase in time to investigate.

"I'm sorry, she's out gathering herbs at the moment." Dylan says, giving a friendly smile. "Is there anything I can help you with?"

It's easy to tell she's both trying to see Barbara and also not trying to see Barbara, because the first glimpse she gets she winces at the painful looking damage. "Well, normally she's back by now and I bring her lunch by. Who are you?"

"That was my fault, unfortunately." Dylan says sheepishly. Not even a day in and they were already disrupting things. "I'm Ranan. My friend was hurt, so se brought her here to get some of Rose's attention. We're holding down the fort until she returns."

"Oh." The woman nods. "Rose put off her collecting until your friend was stable then? I can see her doing that." She smiles softly. "Rose is a great woman, isn't she?"

She sets the basket down on a nearby table. "I'm Ilusia."

Ilusia giggles at Dylan's comment. "She's made a lot of people rest easier. Though she's my intended and I dislike sharing any of her with the rest of the village, even when they do need her help."

"Intended?" click...click...click...ding! "Ah, congratulations." Dylan recovers. He had not been expecting that.

"Trust me, her help has been more then welcome. In fact, you may be able to help with something. We need a way to pay Rose back for what she's done. And we're...well...broke."
