A Sheep in Wolf's Clothing

StoneWolf18

Within the Depths of a Dream

QAFMzOI.png

We've all heard the saying. "A wolf in sheep's clothing" usually refers to the predator among the prey. Hunter among the hunted. Exactly as if a wolf is wearing a sheep's wool, deceiving the herd just to get in close for a meal fit for a king. But, what if the roles were reversed. Putting the sheep in a wolf's pelt and placing it within the pack. This can be dangerous yet extremely rewarding if done correctly, yet if that pelt were to get washed away...

Vera held up the sword she had just forged and inspected her handiwork. It wasn’t her best but was still going to be damn effective. Setting upon the rack of finished works, she stretched and leaned against her heated smithy. The smith had been feeling incredibly sore lately, and she didn’t know why. She had been beating steel into shape for some time now, and she couldn’t remember the last it had pained her to do so. As Vera rolled her shoulders and tried to loosen the mysterious tension in her muscles, Yule was walking around, checking up on every one. “Hey, you okay there?” He asked whilst approaching the smithy. “Yeah...must’ve pulled something...everywhere…” she gave a halfhearted chuckle. “If it keeps bothering yah, might want to get it checked out by Feonya. She’s a god when it comes to healing wounds.” “I’ll look into it, thanks.” And with that, the second in command bit her a good day and continued making his rounds.

Harley was coming back to the guild from a job she had just finished. She had Taylor and Lucy with her. She decided to take the two out on mission. She pushed some of her dark brown hair our if her cerulean blue eye. The visible eye peered around for her sister. She had her other eye covered by a patch. She knew exactly where she was.

She eventually saw the second-in-command of the guild going around. Harley waved slightly, noticing he was talking to her sister. She raised an eyebrow, wondering what was going on with Vera. She waved dismissively to her comrades and made her way over to her sister. She had a bit of a grin on her face.

"Vera, did you miss your old sister?" She asked, chuckling a bit. Harley put an arm around her shoulder, studying the swords her sister created. The dark brown haired female was always so impressed with her sister's skills. She peered over to her and chuckled a bit.

"See ya been at work... As usually." The female laughed a bit and smiled warmly. She tilted her head.

"You alright? Yule and you seemed to be talking about something?" She questioned.

“Well I gotta make a living somehow…” Still stretching, Vera continued. “I've just been a bit sore an’ such all over lately. Don't know why and it's obviously not my profession considering how long I've been forging items. Yule suggested I go see Feyona about it and I may if it doesn't fix itself soon.” Moving out from her sister’s grasp, the smith looked her in the eye, asking “So what's up with you? We haven't talked all day.”

Harley snickered slightly and nodded a bit.

"Yea, that's true. Keeps you pretty busy too." She smiled and then tilted her head. She a flash of concern in her visible eye. Harley knew that normally her sister was fine with her work, never sore after working on her weapons and such.

"Yea, I know. You seem to be pretty much alright when you're forging things, Vera. Honestly, it may be best if you do go see her." Harley frowned slightly. She rubbed the back of her head with a slight chuckled.

"Just working, I gotta keep busy sometimes too. I'm sorry we haven't talked too much, there's been quite a bit of jobs coming in lately." She explained in response to her sister's question.

"Gah, gotta blame all those damned hell spawns. Making life harder for everyone I tell yah." Glancing to her swords, Vera shrugged "Its because you've never seen another smith, and there are many that could call my work sloppy and dull though these are made for killing, not to put on some rack and display everywhere." Looking thoughtful for a moment, she then said "But I do have something..." Crouching down, she grabbed for a large item wrapped in a thick, delicate cloth. Removing its shroud, the item was a beautiful silver sword, glinting in the torch light. "This beauty is my pride and joy. Forged it with an alloy that's one part iron, 2 parts silver. Can cut through most supernatural like-" the smith's sentence was shortened by the sharp, burning sensation she felt when she ran a hand over the engravings. Frowning, she drew it away. "Did I really make them that sharp? I could've swore I polished this damned this for hours..." Vera trailed off, obviously confused.
