ANTHONY STARK IS DEAD
SUSAN TELLER || STAFF WRITER, DAILY BUGLE
Tony Stark v. USA, 2010
October 3, 2025.
The world is in mourning at the death of Tony Stark, billionaire philanthropist. Most notably, Stark is remembered for his alter ego as the Iron Man, and his role in the Avengers.
Stark's shocking death came at the hands of the artificial intelligence known as Ultron seeking to invade and conquer the Earth. The X-Men, the Avengers, SHIELD, and the Future Foundation were all present at the scene. All were operating in tandem in hopes of vanquishing a foe that was created by two of their very own. The sentient machine was created in partnership by Mr. Anthony Stark, Dr. Reed Richards, and Dr. Hank Pym, looking to install a global failsafe that could prevent a third alien invasion, following the devastation at the hands of Asgardian deity, Loki Laufeyson, in 2012, and the crazed mutant, En Sabah Nur in 2021.
Yet, despite their best efforts, even the most brilliant minds have proven that power to that extreme spells nothing but destruction. The death count from Ultron's attack is not yet known globally, but is estimated to be in the millions.
Sokovia was the pinpoint of the destruction; the country lifted and leveled entirely with most of the rural communities and some of the major cities having been evacuated by the X-Men in SHIELD Helicarriers. Even still, millions of lives were lost there too, and the destruction can be seen from space. The world mourns Sokovia.
Stark marks the second death of a scientist-superhero after Johnny Storm's public execution at the hands of Wanda Maximoff [Scarlet Witch], among her cohorts of self proclaimed 'Brotherhood of Mutants' two years ago. Death, despair and dissolution lingers on the horizon as people mourn and rebuild. Outcry is loudest here, in New York, outside the Stark Industries building.
There is much deliberation concerning the status of Stark's wealth, and whether or not it will be passed down to the next of kin, transferred to the Avengers, or entirely donated to various charities to facilitate the long future of rebuilding. Thousands have voiced their concern that the Avengers should continue to be funded, based on the level of destruction that they have inflicted over the years.
"It just doesn't make sense," Governor Norman Osborn said at the recent press release about the city's devastation. "Keep funding the Avengers? They built the damn Robot, they destroyed our city, and we're supposed to keep supporting them? When was the last time there wasn't thousands of casualties, or millions of dollars in damage when they start stomping around? The time for heroes is over. We need to rebuild ourselves and our communities, not empower dangerous lunatics with superpowers any further."
Dr. Hank Pym, one of the founding members of the Avengers and one of the survivor's of Ultron's attack, was not available for a comment. Neither was SHIELD, the Future Foundation, any of the other Avengers, or any of the responsible parties.
In a time when we need them most, for some explanation after so many years vowing to protect the world, how could they leave us now? Speaking personally, I can see where the resistance is coming from. Maybe the time for heroes is over?
Governor Osborn is scheduled to have an emergency meeting with the President next week. After, a global conference is in the works with the United Nations to discuss amends, and next plans of action.
PREMISE.
They say the time for superheroes has come to it's inevitable end.
You weren't simply left "banged up" after a calamity like Ultron's attack. Ibuprofen would not stop the recurring visions from the battlefield, no sort of wizardry or advanced technology could purge those memories either.
On September 30, 2025, for the 8 hours that Ultron levitated Sokovia you were a soldier. Albeit the lowest of the ranks, you were a soldier nonetheless. The most dangerous battle was fought by your mentor, and maybe for the first time, you were left alone in the field to make decisions where the experienced veterans could not. All of them too distracted by a foe merciless and strong. Without their constant guidance, yu were forced to fill the shoes you'd trained for ever since you donned that cowl in the name of justice.
Search and rescue was your objective. Find any civilians hidden in the wreckage, and lead them to safety. Protect them from whatever might wish to claim their lives on the way there. You'd never seen an opposition so nefarious and persistent. They were robots without empathy, machines that could not feel pain, but did all that they could to inflict it. In a war against the steel-skinned, all that blood staining the streets was undoubtedly that of your people. Those eerie cries from the living as they had their lives ripped away from them both figuratively and literally.
Still, you focus on the assignment at hand. While you've never labeled yourself a sidekick, you've always been a loyal steed. You do as you're told, and what you were told on the 30th was the most difficult duty you'd been been tasked to complete.
By the time the dust cleared and wails fell quiet, Ultron was finally but at a cost higher than anyone could have imagined. Countless lives had been lost. Civilians, mothers, fathers, daughters, brothers. Heroes died too. They did not escape this battle in the same valiant glory you'd grown accustomed to. Against Ultron, it took a desperation you'd never before seen in them. Whether dead, injured, or scarred forever, your mentor was never the same. Hell, you weren't either.
You were told never to fight the good fight again. To do like the other heroes and die, or hide so well the people would think you'd died. The climate for super heroes was boiling, waiting to be evaporated away. You'd become a part of a hated faction, distrusted by those they'd sworn to protect. Secret identities became all the more important, lacking a dual life meant leaving your loved ones vulnerable to those violent demonstrations. The display of abilities, mutant, mystical, or technological was hushed unless you were looking for trouble.
You never donned the cowl again no matter how much you missed its touch. You watched the world of liberty that you once protected, grow into one of uniformity. People corralled into submission through fear by a man too powerful to oppose. Although his methods might be unorthodox, they have placed shackles of safety on the world. You adjust to the new age of the world, it's all you've ever asked for, right?
Perhaps you return to school, work a well-paying job and rise in the new economy. Unluckily for some, you might dwindle down a dark path without the guidance or ambition once laid at your feet. You, and the rest of the world soon forget that superheroes were ever the norm.
But not for long.
A small uprising in this quaint lifestyle of yours has forced you to pique a brow. Civilians, the most vulnerable of all, have began a call for change. Call for the return of that liberty they'd paid as the price for security.
Reignited by this small flame, this question, however nebulous, floats into your mind...
How much can a sidekick actually tip the scale?
WHERE ARE THE HEROES?
SUSAN TELLER || STAFF WRITER, DAILY BUGLE
Thor, left. Captain America, right. Battle of New York, 2012.
September 30, 2030.
With the fifth anniversary of Tony Stark's death approaching, what people want to know most is where are the heroes now? The answer is grim, with the NYPD confirming that the body that was found floating last Monday in the Hudson River near Tribeca to be that of Captain Steve Rogers, formerly known as Captain America. This follows the recent trend of ex-heroes forcibly retiring from recent legislation targeting vigilantism, going missing or winding up dead. Hearts are heavy with mourning, and a candlelit vigil is in works to be held at Prospect Park in the next week.
In the wake of such tragedies, President Norman Osborn has publicly offered to fund the fifth anniversary charity event of Sokovia's devastation, and Tony Stark's death, and make the event fully free for every New York citizen. President Osborn's recent sweeping win at the polls has given him the support needed to back his recent pushes for several reforms in favor of registering every mutant and superhuman against forming any sort of powered vigilante group without Government approval and clamping down on Artificial Intelligence construction movements. As he puts it: "to prevent any failure to the scale of Sokovia and Ultron from ever happening again."
President Osborn has faced recent scrutiny from installing his own 'Liberators', a group not unlike the Avengers or the X-Men, with goals of pursuing Government interests and pacifying unrest. Many wonder if this is just another accident waiting to happen, and others have claimed that Osborn forcibly restricted the Avengers and X-Men on purpose to push is own agenda, with the recent mysterious circumstances around ex-heroes fates nearly jeopardizing the President's efforts.
The Daily Bugle reached out for a comment. "We want to prevent Sokovia, or the Battle of New York, or the near Apocalypse that happened, form happening again. Having Government-mandated superheroes is the best way to do this; as superhuman threats don't just stop existing. The Liberators' goal is to diminish casualties and structural damage while still getting the job done. They are bound by oaths, not unlike our military, and promises to be better than their predecessors. They can go where no other man, or army, can go. They can do more than we can. We don't need heroes. We need liberators," said President Osborn's Press Secretary Elizabeth Allan.
ROLES.
The young partners of various superheroes had formed a family filled with the Earth's next line of protectors. Five years ago, that family was fractured. Slowly, but surely, it faded into nothingness. A vague memory of the past life they wished to protect.
Most of them haven't kept in touch with one another since the entire superhero gig went up in flames. Still, in the time they had together, they remember who was always ...
THE LEADER. First to defend, and last to concede, the leader was somebody marked by passion and ambition. They always had an infectious sense of courage in the face of the burden weighing on their shoulders.

THE OVERACHIEVER. Ever the competitive spirit, the overachiever worked tooth and nail for their recognition. Categorized as somebody ever sure of themselves, deep down, they struggle with feelings of doubt about their own competence.
Taken by: BELIAL.
THE REBEL. The rebel has never done well with rules. Accustomed to being their own authority, their lethal methods aren't always praised by their colleagues. They see things clear, right and wrong, and are willing to do what it takes to punish wrong.
Taken by: Open.
THE PROFESSOR. Learned and well-educated, the professor is gifted with exceptional intelligence. They are have an ambitious curiosity that threatens to surmount their sense of ethics.
Taken by: Open.
THE WARRIOR. The warrior is a fierce and loyal individual that hails from another world. They are more experienced with bloodshed than the rest, and will do whatever it takes to ensure the safety of their comrades, and the Earth.
Taken by: Open.
THE JOKESTER. In the face of danger, the joker is seemingly at ease and in their own world. They provide a sense of lightheartedness amidst calamity, although sometimes ill-timed. The Jokester battles with something important in their personal lives.
Taken by: Open.
THE CAREGIVER. Usually the most level-headed sidekick, the caregiver doubles as the medium. They have a way with words, and the scalpel, as they tend to wounds both physical and mental. Sometimes, at the cost of their own health.
Taken by: Open.
THE OUTSIDER. The only one who might not be recognized is the outsider. Not a sidekick, not a hero, not even present when Sokovia was forced into the skies. The outsider is a completely new face that found their way into the mix of things.

Whether or not they're all still the same from five years ago, only time will tell.
You can either have your character still be similar to how they were in the past, or have changed during the 5-year time skip between the attack, and the start of the rp. We'll certainly consider newly pitched roles too!
"ARE YOU READY?"

RULE ONE. As per every roleplay, please follow all RPN rules. Whilst all sorts of themes might be present IC, it is mandatory that you treat each and every member of this roleplay, and the acceptance process with respect. No drama or bullying will be tolerated.
RULE TWO. This is a semi-advanced roleplay and so literacy is a must. We would like proper grammar, vocabulary, and overall quality. No one-liners and 3+ paragraphs are expected per post.
RULE THREE. If you are interested in applying for this RP, please be willing to be active. 1-2 replies a week with OOC activity but we will, of course, be accommodating of real-life circumstances. There will be a mandatory Discord post-acceptance, but for now an on-site OOC.
RULE FOUR. This will not be first-come, first-serve. Characters will be accepted on an application basis.
RULE FIVE. The age requirement to be a part of this roleplay is 18 because it will be handling mature themes. The age bracket for our characters is 21-29.
RULE SIX. This RP is set on Earth X, our own pocket Marvel universe. This way, we can create our own narrative with lots of mentioned easter eggs. There will be an umbrella story in the background of the rp, but mostly for when things lull or get slow. It will be pushed forward largely by the actions, and plots of our own characters.
~Hello, my name is Fin and I'm the gm of this RP! This idea was created in partnership by my friend, and co-GM BELIAL. . We've always loved the idea of a raw, realistic, and practical Marvel RP. We've been in a handful of superhero rp's in the past, and with what we've learned, we hope to deliver the best edition yet.
MARVEL SIDEKICKS is a multi-dimensional idea. We hope to have a gritty, and dark take on the titular superhero universe with inspiration from the Boys, Titans, and the comic material themselves. We are looking for a complex and diverse group of ex-sidekicks, and in bewitchingly special cases, adversaries to the sidekicks. Enemies they've faced in the past, similar in age, stature, and experiences. Canon characters that were illustrated as teens, or young adults in comics continuity can also be adapted for this roleplay (eg. Cloak, Dagger, Power Pack, Spider-Man, etc.)
As per the newspaper articles we've shown you all, there has been a 5-year time skip between the Ultron attack and current day Osborn Utopia. In this time, a character may have remained loyal to their cause, gone to the shadows, or have thrown in the towel completely. Among the Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and any other teams or heroes within the Marvel universe, these are their mentees meeting some fate that brings them all back together again. Most, if not all of the veteran heroes were either killed during Ultron's attack, hunted by Norman Osborn's government, confined to the shadows, have kicked the stool, or worse.
We're excited to see the ideas you come up with.
