A little bit of this...

Syrrus

Wishful bard
So, I hope my role-play buddy won't notice this. If I'm lucky she's not very active in these type of threads. I just wanted a place to put the art used for that and other role-plays. Perhaps even get to hear some thoughts on them, that's always fun.

And heck, drawing characters is a lot more fun than I give it credit.

Have a Kid Loki, for now.

How I draw:

I make a traditional sketch with pen and paper, a silly writers pen (nothing fancy) the inking is often done by traditional manners as well, which causes my desk and arms to have great stains of ink all over it/them. I use photoshop or illustrator to colour my work and...

Heh, my colours were recently called 'Soulless' so I am working on that as well<3

Oh, nicely done! I was going to say-- wow! How did you get that colour with traditional? But then I read your post. Haha, either way, that's gorgeous! I've never worked with traditional ink, although I always have wanted to, but I've just never committed to it. I have my Copic Inking markers, and I'm always, always tempted to buy true ink. Any suggestions on brands or methods?

Anyways, good job on the piece. It's a great expression. (:

There is a easy way to get that type of colouring with traditional media. In fact, it's my favorite way to paint and I designed my bushes in photoshop to look like the method.

One way is using thick water colour pens and carefully dab some water onto the image. Water colour will make a beautiful transparent colouring, if you don't understand what I mean by that take a look at the Animated picture Lilo and Stitch, their background is purely made out of watercolour, brushes and not pens.

However, the colouring I'm trying to duplicate is made from a beautiful high range set of ProMarker pens, both thick and small. I think I caught it well. Haha!

And for the inking, I use something called a Crow Quill, which is very friendly but difficult to use, you have to dip it in inc bottles and if you don't know what the quill is designed to do and if you put too much pressure, tilt it weird, tilt it too little, too little pressure, too much ink etc it'll end up as either a cut though the paper or a big splash of black ink all over your work.

Update:

I don't use the brand myself but Speedball is a good starting brand to get when it comes to ink quills. I don't even know what my brand is, I got it for christmas about ten years ago! I keep buying new tips for it once every 6-8 months, depending on how much I use them.

Ah, fantastic. My work is almost exclusively digital; however, I've been trying to "broaden my horizons" into the traditional world, as well. I'll take your suggestions into consideration-- thanks!

I know it's a way to go before Valentines' here, but I will be busy 13th of Feb and forward... No, no reason. None at all.

Ooh, I like that, especially the play between purple and yellow; it really draws the eye in.

Beautiful work! <3
Thank you!

And here's some more. See them as my way of both getting my weekend job done as well as me just playing around with colours. Can't can't say I like the blue 'fiery' light too much, I think the soft soothing of red light was a lot better. The more you know!

I love it! What program do you use if you don't mind me asking?
I start of with a traditional sketch, on paper with a very boring pen. I spend perhaps... 2-5 hours on a sketch, sometimes get it right the first go and sometimes I don't. I then clean it up, and by that point I've used about 10-20 papers, I start inking with a quill and a messy looking inkbottle. After that I'll scan it in and depending on what I'm going for I either use Photoshop, Illustrator or SketchUp Pro/Designer.

I'd recommend using Photoshop with costom brushes, I don't think I've ever used Photoshop's defaults...

Making a sketch the traditonal way is the best way to give the image soul, something special happens to your matterial when it's drawn that way, it's hard to explain. AND it means you have a original piece which no one but yourself can get hold of :) Always nice when you make something pretty.

Hope that makes any sense.

Happy Mask Day! It's only... A few hours (For me) left to the 13th, gonna be good.
