Well, here I am again.
Every few months, I'll get a renewed desire to escape my life for a little while -- beyond the daily forays into literature, cinema and video games -- and after scouring the internet for something to pique my interest, I always end up returning to RPNation. I'll spend a few days lurking in the recruitment forum looking for an RP I can get behind, and after a little while, I end up realizing that the only way I'll ever find exactly what I'm looking for is to post my own ideas up, and hope that someone takes the bait.
Before I give it my best shot at reeling in an awesome partner to RP with, I'd just like to get a few RP preferences out of the way:
I would like to play a male character, in any RP I do. However, I'm totally okay with you playing either sex.
I'm very much into literate RPs. There's nothing wrong if you like to RP in a manner that sees you bang out one grammatically incorrect sentence and then press the 'send' button (hey, at least you are letting your creativity flow) but I just don't think you are the right partner for me, if that is your style. I would rather have someone who can pretty reliably post a well written, 2 to 5 paragraph reply.
I'm very much in favor of quality over quantity in regards to the frequency at which I post. A reply every 2 to 3 days is what you should expect from me, and it's what I would expect from you in return. There's no rushing the creative process, you know?
Anyway, on to the ideas. The two ideas I bouncing around aren't much more than glorified settings, but collectively filling out those skeletons with someone is half the fun of RPing.
Firstly, I've always found the idea of a steam-punk, dystopian setting to be intriguing, and I would love to construct a story about the political manoeuvrings within such a place. Perhaps a tale about countless nobles attempting to stab each other in the back, trying to ascend to a corrupt kingdoms throne? Or maybe a princess/prince within such a setting, who has a cataclysmic event change his perspective on the world, forcing him to try to change the policies in place?
Or, if you are looking for something a bit more vanilla: I'm in love with those classic stories of 1950's and 60's Americana. You know the ones. Ford convertibles, drive ins, girls in red dresses and guys in leather jackets, the whole thing. I'd love to write a love story in that era. It doesn't have to be a cliché "love at first site" thing, however. Maybe they've been friends for ages, maybe they hate each other. Maybe things end up horribly, by the end of the story. All those fun details would be ours to create and uncover.
