The dark streets of Gotham seemed to cripple all whom was present with silence. A particular part of the city seemed abandoned and eerily desolate, the lack of cars on the street only aided to the silence that the night tended to bring. An occasional streetlight casted spotlights onto the lonely road, every other streetlight seemed to be broken, which made the abandoned neighborhood seemed darker than most parts of the city. Trash littered the sidewalks, and some of it even drifted across the street, crumpled up beer cans and plastic bags stained with grease and other questionable substances made up a majority of the litter. It seemed like trash cans were a rarity in this part of town, but when a trash can was identified, it was almost always turned over, either by delinquents or raccoons, both aptly fitting the description of vermin. It was here that the streets found a pair of teenage twins. Their stained and slightly torn clothes immediately betrayed the pair as penniless to any observant eye, and it may have been their downtrodden appearance that spared them from direct hostility. The pair walked side by side, both seeming to be avoiding each others gazes, and wrapped in the deafening silence this part of Gotham had to offer. Both certainly looked like twins, their Asian skin and dark eyes and even darker hair made them interchangeable, although one's hair was a few inches longer than the other. The brothers walked on, both seeming quite aimless and possibly even unaware of what danger this part of the city might have. "Kano, watch that can." Came a blunt voice from one of the twins, continuing his pace unimpeded whilst the other immediately looked down to the sidewalk as they stepped on a beer can, stumbling forward a bit as he kicked the crumpled can to the side, then stopped to look at his brothers back. A frown was on Kano's face as he watched his brother, a struggling expression being made clear until he found something to say, perhaps to prompt a conversation. Resuming his walk and increasing his pace to close the short distance between them, Kano uttered, "So, Kenji, I thought about it a bit, maybe we can sneak into the library tomorrow?" his tone made it clear that it was a half hearted suggestion, and already Kenji's face grew an expression of aggravation. "We tried that already..." He was tired of speaking even before the conversation began, and despite sensing this, Kano persisted, not really bothered by his brothers discomfort. "Yes, but, this time we actually know what they're looking for. It isn't like security is tight... And we could get on a computer?" Kano's tone went up a pitch, sounding highly suggestive, he knew exactly what was on his brothers mind. Keeping his eyes on Kenji, he watched as the aggravation faded away into that of longing. "...Worth a try." Kenji said this with a shrug, eager to let silence fall between them again, whilst Kano sighed in exasperation, trying to think of anything to kill this silence as they aimlessly walked. Suddenly, a distant scream echoed, piercing the silence before it had really settled around them. Both boys stopped dead, their eyes going wide as shock, fear, and confusion ran through them almost in an instant. A deep, concerned frown formed on both their faces, neither moving until Kano stepped forward... Then suddenly took off, nearly sprinting down the street until he stopped just behind the corner of an alleyway. Every alleyway in this city seemed to be dark and ominous... and indeed, Kano witnessed the sight of a young woman in a trench coat, gazing fearfully at a man with a gun. Hearing Kenji's footsteps approaching behind him, Kano kept his eyes on the two strangers, his heart racing as he comprehended what was happening. "Scream like that again, and you'll be dead, lady." The mugger spoke in an impossibly gravelly voice. It was almost comical how he fit the typical mugger motif, an unshaved face hidden underneath a hat, with an unimpressive brown trenchcoat covering his body that, no doubt, concealed his weapon, which was now sitting comfortably in his right hand. The woman wore a similar coat, no doubt in an effort to hide herself from attackers, all in vain. "Just give me your damn wallet." Kano felt a silent tug on his arm, knowing full well his brother wanted them to leave before they got caught up in this. They were both as defenseless as that woman appeared to be, and they'd both prepared to flee from a threatening incident like this. Except Kano didn't expect to find someone else caught up as the victim in this. "P-Please... I don't have any money, I-I-" "Bull." The mugger's patience seemed nonexistent, and his hand tightened around the gun. Ignoring what must've been a silent and fierce glare from Kenji, Kano took milliseconds to scan the alleyway, his eyes settling on the only nearby weapons he had; empty beer cans...! Grabbing the crumpled up bits of trash, he bent and flattened them as quickly as he could, before senselessly tossing two of them straight at the muggers back. His aim was nothing impressive, as the first can missed and slid on the ground near the mugger, while the second only bounced off his back uselessly. "The f-" Quickly turning to meet the possible threat, the mugger had turned his face around just in time for one of Kano's thrown cans to smack him right in the face, a jagged end miraculously striking the man in the eye. "ARGH!" His free hand whipping to his eye and being momentarily distracted, the young woman did not hesitate to sprint past him, running out of the alley and springing past the boys, no doubt fleeing in terror for her life. Kano couldn't help but grin in shaky disbelief when one of his thrown cans had actually hit the mugger and caused some pain. But it was short lived as his brother firmly pulled his arm, the duo turning to flee in the opposite direction of the strangers, neither turning back to look at the consistent cursing coming from the mugger. He'd run out of the alley, spotting the fleeing teens that had foiled his simple money grab and not hesitating to raise his gun to them. More curses were uttered under the muggers breath as he aimed... Then fired.
