A Check For Every Ability

Been pondering this for awhile. I'm sure that technically there's a way to use every combination of Attribute-Ability, but I'm stuck on a few. There's your obvious ones (Manipulation-Socialize, Dexterity-Martial Arts, Intelligence-Lore), but how do you explain something like Strength-Bureaucracy?


A few of the ones my group have puzzled out:


Dexterity-Linguistics = Sign Language


Manipulation-Medicine = cowing the patient into obeying your orders, like House :P


Stamina-Socialize = for those week-long Cynis parties
 
I'm not sure there is a way to combine every attribute and every ability. Str + Bureaucracy is sort of easy - you smash the table to make the bureaucrats do what you want. But App + Resistance? App+Archery? App+a whole list of abilities? I realize there's probably ways to do all this, but to be honest, I don't have the patience to try and figure them all out.

Smashing a table to make beurocracts do what you want it at best Str + Presence or Performance. Why would the skill for ordering someone around change because the guy works in an office?
 
So then why not use Presence or Performance when dealing with bureaucracies full stop? Isn't Bureaucracy the skill used to deal with......bureaucracies?


Besides, part of the point of this thread is pairing attributes and abilities that don't normally go together. I wouldn't use Str+Bureaucracy in normal gameplay, but that's the point of the thread. I was just pointing out a way to use Str+Bureaucracy.

I think Appearance+Archery could be used not necessarily to shoot a bow accurately, but to look good doing it. Same goes for Appearance plus pretty much anything else.

If the guy was shouting bureaucracy protocols and overlooked points while trashing the office with his bare hands, Strength + Bureaucracy could work.


What I'm wondering is, Strength + Awareness?
 
Strength+Awareness = Literally tearing a room apart to find something or make sure nothing has been hidden in said room.


Strength+Linguistics = Slapping the piss outta somebody until they say something that makes sense


Strength +Larceny = Picking somebody up by their ankles and shaking their belongings on to the ground


Strength=+Occult =  Knowing which toys to break to get the sorceress to tell you what you need


Strength+Dodge = Picking your buddy up to use as a shield


Strength+Medicine = Jabbing pointing things in the soft places to get information


This is fun, and much easier waaay sleep deprived
 
A lot of these are charisma/manipulation though. A lot of these things are social combat or social combat stunts and therefore most likely done over charisma or manipulation. The sorcress won't tell you anything just because you smash stuff, she tells you because you smash stuff and look like you are going to smash more of her precious belonging or her.

This could also be Perception + Athletics, of course.. "how strong would I have to be in order to break this in /exactly this way/?"
 
Most of the ones mentioned fall squarely into something else. For instance, tearing up a room looking for something would be, at best, Str + Investigation.


I guess my stance is that, sure, you can ignore the logical choices and maybe find a combination for all of the Attribute + Ability pairs, but apart from being silly on a forum why would you want to?

In one of the lunar games I played in 1E, our Full Moon Rhino found uses for his physical stats with his meager social abilities.


Strength + Bureaucracy = Strong arming the Eclipse.. I mean conversation.


Stamina + Bureaucracy = Sitting through the Eclipse's conversations.


Appearance + Bureaucracy = Faking it.


In our groups, if you're faking anything, as in disguising that you don't really know how to do something, we used appearance instead of manipulation to say you're not using words, you're using your body. In this instance Appearance was used with a lot of abilities.


Appearance + Larceny is disguise.


Appearance + Archery is making it look like you know how to use this bow you picked up for the first time in your life. (intimidation perhaps?)


Appearance + Occult is making it look like you are going through the motions of casting a spell. And so on.
 
Heh, I like Appearance + Occult.


Strength + Awareness could be hitting something just strong enough it gets out of the way but doesn't break, perhaps...


Someone should make a list of all 225 possible Att + Abil combinations and see if it can be completely filled out... and example stunts for all the combinations, too. >_>
