From the city's hierarchy's apparent need for heightened security, The Dark Side of Academy City arose. Officially, that city's defense is supplied by that of the volunteer police force, Anti-Skill, but, with the massive acceleration of technology within the city of science, and the ever increasing power of it's Esper population, they would soon prove to not be enough. The Dark Side of Academy City rose to fill the gap that they left. Or at least, that was how it started. Originally consisting of a variety of people being hired by the higher-ups and facilities of the city to provide additional security, this 'Dark Side' quickly spiraled into something completely different. People formed groups, groups formed goals, security evolved into private armies, what was orginally meant to defend the city soon turned into a hive of criminal activity. From individuals with esper powers and special abilities, to failed students or persons who are selected for a specific purpose, this darker half contained all the people that it was meant to hold back.

But, of course, that wasn't all there was to it.

Of the groups that rose amongst the Darkness, there were a rare few who took on a purpose similar to it's original intent. GROUP who existed in the underworld, working to defend the mainstream society, and ITEM who monitored the upper echelons of the Academy City. And, in their wake, yet another faction has arisen.

SERPENT.

To ensure the long life of the city. To crush anything that threatens it, whether it be external, or internal. Whether it be an invasive parasite, or a cancerous tumor. That, is the purpose of SERPENT. You, have been picked from that gutter that is the Dark Side of Academy City to take part in this group, serving as one of the core six members that it will be built around. Should you chose to accept, your life, of course, will be put at risk, in time you will even have a target painted on your back so large that you won't even be able to spend your hours off duty without fear of a bullet to your back. The work will be grueling, and we are sure that you will have to face opponents you would never expect to so much as meet, let alone pit yourself against in battle. But. Whether it's for the sake of protecting the city's people, it's scientific progress, or just fulfilling your own greed, SERPENT will meet your expectations.

Following, is a quick summary of the events from the end of Index Season 2, to the point in the Light Novels at which this RP begins.

FIRST INCIDENT: "VENTO OF THE FRONT"

Of the events leading up to the creation of SERPENT, the incursion of God's Right Seat Member, Vento of the Front is perhaps influential. Infiltrating Academy City, Vento swiftly incapacitated a grand total of 90% of the city's population, crippling the defense force and leading to an unknown amount of accidents. Proceeding from this, she murdered three members of the Board of Directors, before turning her attention to FUSE Kazakiri, and having her faux-pas invasion ended by the wielder of Imagine Breaker. While in the end this was only a minor incursion, with only a few casualties occurring before the situation was handled, this did show a major hole in the city's security, and is likely the spark that led to future events. Likewise, this was the event that first raised the concept of the SERPENT group among the Board of Directors.



SECOND INCIDENT: "TERRA OF THE LEFT"

In the case of God's Right Seat Member, Terra of the Left's campaign against Academy City, the effects with Academy City were rather minor. While his en-masse indoctrination of the Roman-Catholic populace, in the form of turning them against the city, caused significant political issues, and a number of incidents outside of Academy City, things were handled by both the wielder of Imagine Break, and the Level 5 Accelerator before they could get out of hand. As of now Terra of the Left is presumed dead, but his quick rallying of the Roman-Catholic populace did raise a number of concerns within the Board of Directors, as to how to properly deal with such a threat should it arise more publicly, within Academy City.



THIRD INCIDENT: "DARK MATTER"

Incident Three was the first, and only event related to the creation of SERPENT to be an internal threat. After the attempted assassination of the member of the Board of Directors Oyafune Monaka, the Second Ranked Level Five Kakine Teitoku made a move to steal the prototype 'Tweezer' device. After a swift success he soon augmented his abilities with the the device designed for interacting with atomic particles. Soon afterwards, he turned his attention towards the UNDER_LINE information system, and when not satisfied by the information he retrieved, he shifted his attention towards the First Ranked Level 5 Accelerator, with intent to kill. Teitoku was soon subdued by Accelerator, but the numerous operative deaths that occurred before his defeat was more that enough to push the concept of SERPENT to near-acceptance.




FOURTH INCIDENT: "ACQUA OF THE BACK"

The fourth and final event leading up to the founding of SERPENT was the intrusion of God's Right Seat Member and Saint, Acqua of the Back into Academy City. While unlike Vento and Terra, his target was not the city itself, the massive damages caused during the battles he engaged in were far to severe to ignore. Upon his arrival he almost immediately engaged the wielder of Imagine Breaker, subsequently hospitalizing both him within only a few moves of the battle. Prior to this he engaged the 'Amakutsa' Magic Cabal, who had taken on the duty of protecting the boy, choosing to leave them with only minor wounds, at least to the critical wounds he inflicted upon their charge. Later, though the combined efforts of the Saint Kanzakai Kaori, the Amakutsa Church, and the wielder of Imagine Breaker. This victory though, was one earned almost entirely by the Magic Side, and how long his warpath would have gone on without their intervention is unknown. As such, this was considered the last straw in the consideration of SERPENT, leading to it's subsequent creation.
