Fantasy A Call To Arms [CLOSED FOR NOW]

Axion

MIA
"Listen closely! For I'll only say this once, hold all questions until I say you can ask."

The man clamored in armor retrieves a scroll from behind, rolling the grandiose paper as he looks between the crowd and the words written on the scroll,

"For those who are in need of employment, money, or status. For those who have skill in the art of combat, subsistence, leadership, or knowledge. For those who are mercenaries, adventures, or wanderers."

He moves the scroll down, focusing all his attention to the crowd that has formed, listening intently,

"If you are or think you are one of the following I've listed, even if you've answered none of the above but still think you've got the guts. Then you're eligible to participate in a quest directly from the King of Rulian, ordering those in this time of need, to turn the tide against the Systern Empire. Though I cannot explain in specific details pertaining to the quest until we've accepted a said number of volunteers. Your mission would be to travel to Esthar, the neighboring country allied with the Kingdom of Rulian, and send a message that ordeals a "Call to Arms" in the war between Rulian and Systern. You are then to report back as soon as possible when you have been given an answer of Esthar agreeing to join the war."

The man then rolls the scroll, placing it back onto the hands of another soldier,

"Questions you have regarding anything involved with the quest and/or interested in volunteering. Then meet at the front gates of the castle where we will further inform you of the quest and who will be chosen to embark on said quest. That is all..."

Heyo, Axion the name and roleplaying is everyone's game! Here's another idea that popped into my head and slowly became more evolved the more I thought about it.

To give a general idea of the setting, it's a fantasy world with technology level equivalent to the Second Industrial Revolution where preexisting or new technology are being advanced/introduced. For example, smelting iron into steel, or the use of electricity but on a global scale.

Railways are being built around the world and the production and advancement of weapons are rising in this time of war. Basic fantasy technology though is still in use such as magic (fire, ice, etc.), medieval-like weapons and armor, no automobiles have been invented so the use of trains is heavily used along with mounts and certain flying machines that are still in practice.

If you are interested in joining and have any questions, please ask away. This is open to all so don't be afraid. Come right in and make yourself known to the world!!

This sounds super cool. Question, thoughts on a bit of a steam punky character??

Thanks, a steam punk character is fine by me, just make sure to show me your cs when your done so i can approve it

FireMaiden FireMaiden
It does, doesn't it. Probably too much playing Fable at my friends place if you ask me but it was interesting enough for me to get hooked on. Nowadays, i just watch my friend play it since he's way better at it than I am

I'd be down for something like this. Is it limited to just human characters, by chance? Or is it more of an open ended offer?

If you can describe it well enough for me (and others) to picture a image of that in my head then that's fine by me

I've got a thousand and a half words contributing to his physical appearance. That shouldn't be an issue

Gryphtaur Gryphtaur
That's what I like to hear

I'm interested in this. A couple of question regarding weaponry and magic though:

Question one, is magic strictly element based? I.E can you have the magical ability to throw fire but not a spell that makes you temporarily faster or teleports you? I overthink my magic systems a lot xD

Question two, how is magic typically used, and how can it be used? Is it only used for battle, or does it have industrial purposes as well? And can you use magic that is specifically related to a weapon such as a sword, like the ability to catch your sword on fire?

Maybe I'm overthinking this, but I like to fully understand what I can and cannot do when it comes to magic. Thank you for your time!

No worries Mechanic, a lot of thinking has also been thinked, i think...

First question: No, magic is not strictly element based. The magic system will be very similar to Final Fantasy magic. If you haven't played or heard of it before, not to worry, I'll make a list of spells available to those who need it and I'll say it here, I've also decided to limit the number of magic you can use to 12 slots to choose from 3 categories of magic. Though if some are against the limitation I will take in consideration to extend more open slots. More will be explained when I make thread or asked again if its still confusing.

Second Question: Magic is still kind of a rarity to find and use in this world. There are those who would want to be an expert at it and/or are in the military/industry where there magic is refined to another level. It is used mostly for combat and industrial purposes but of course, there are those who tend to use magic for personal uses (heating, freezing, healing etc.) in secrecy due to the fact that the economy now runs on it so its technically a bad thing if you try to supply yourself using your own magic without the kingdom's permission. Catching your sword on fire is probably something that should stay on the low as I don't want everyone to be at a disadvantage or everyone putting anything on their weapon that could be considered being OP.

I hope that was a good enough explanation, a lot of it is world building info so take it all in for yourself to build upon your character and I'll continue to answer questions
