miyeon goes through life with a kind heart but cautious mind. life has given her enough trials and tribulations to know that shooting stars is only for those with clouds in their heads or riches in their hands. her soul has shed its optimism a long time ago, instead choosing to envelop itself in a dosis of reality -- though, hope still manages to cling to her form in dire times ( no matter how much she tries to lose it). there is a humanitarian in her, one that spends time helping the less fortunate because she knows too well how it's like. fiercely independent because depending on the good nature of others is not something she can longer afford, and she doesn't want to. hard-working in a way that no matter how heavy her bones feel or how extremely out of league something is, miyeon will tackle it with as much ferocity as her small frame can garner. responsible in a lot of ways, because second chances are rarely given in life and now that she got it, there is no room left for errors or reckless abandon. has an edge that slips out once in a while in venomous words, a certain bitterness about her situation sitting there somewhere beneath the skin. miyeon has long accepted that life doesn't discriminate between the sinners and the saints, but tries her best nonetheless to make castles out of ruins. holds morals of a person who has witnessed the good, ugly and bad and keeps them close with an uncomprimising hand. miyeon is secret dreamer, a witty conversationalist and a loyal friend all in one -- but she is also a survivor who just wishes to do anything more than survive.

HISTORY

miyeon's life started out fortuneous, being born into a family loving and kind. her father worked as a realtor while her mother was a college professor and together, they made enough money to live more than comfortably. her childhood was nothing much different from the standard korean child and time was spent worry-free and in innocent reverie reserved only for those young enough to not fully grasp reality yet. it was not until middle school that miyeon first got confronted with a reality that was about to change everything. it first started with an increase in fatigue and dizziness in the head, before moving on to a certain breathelessness even though her mobility was not even that much. the girl didn't consider it that serious, but after suddenly waking up inside a hospital while her last memory had been doing something as mundane as walking through the city, that opinion changed.

it was that day when miyeon discovered that she had a heart disease named cardiomyopathy. she was given medications and a pacemaker to treat the condition and it worked at first, the symptons subsiding. aside from regular check-ins, miyeon's life wasn't all that different; she went to high school, continued her hobbies such as drawing, met up with her friends, got a boyfriend. everything seemed fine -- right until she woke up inside the hospital again, vision blurry and hooked on a breathing machine. as it turned out, the previous treatments she had were no longer effective, resulting her to be inevitably thrown into the last stage of heart failure. there was only one option now that could save her: a heart transplant -- but with the waiting list being so long, a future was the one thing miyeon might not get in life.

during the next few months, the girl went through all stages of grief; denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and in the end, acceptance. nevertheless, while miyeon might have accepted her short-lived fate, her parents did not. to lose their only daughter was not something the park family could live through and willing to sacrifice anything for a second chance, they knocked on the door of an old friend. their influences and riches might have gotten miyeon a heart transplant, despite being way further down the waiting list, but the price they had to pay? it was hefty enough to knock them into poverty. now heavily indebted, the park family had to sell almost they had to survive. they traded their home in hwaseong for a small appartment in seoul and often needed to choose between having food or electricity. miyeon had luckily managed to get a scholarship and was able to attend college, but with multiple jobs on the side to help support her family, succeeding in her studies hasn't exactly been easy. still, she goes on, determined to forge the future for her and her family that once didn't exist.

  Han-Gyeol has always known he is the type of person that listens to his head rather than his heart, he would just rather focused on what he can control rather than worrying about how he feels, even if he and everyone knew that he wasn't the most outspoken on his feelings and he could seem quite stoic, he was always the reliable friend, the voice of the reason in his group of friends. He was rather known to be the type of kid growing up and even to this day he would always follow the rules, he was happy just by his everyday routine and wouldn't do much to try to change it. He didn't want to stand out, he just wanted to follow his plan life trying to avoid the spotlight, the mundane life was enough for him, but it wasn't until someone showed him that there was more about life than just keeping your head glued to a book, that there was more to notice in even the smallest things.
  
  He managed to start seeing the world in another spectrum and realized that life was more interesting than the everyday routine that he was used to. But just like everything has a beginning it also has an end and, that time of happiness and freedom was taken back and Han-Gyeol was back to his old self, but this time the pain of losing someone made him colder than he already was. He closed himself to showing his feelings and immersed in this life of doing what he needed to live one day at a time trying to avoid thinking and all those moments where he felt truly happy and admire life for what it had to offer while pushing everyone away that was important to him, until this day he believes that true happiness wasn't meant for him and this guilty he carries every day is the price of his sin for trying to become the main lead in the story when he knew all this time his role was just being the extra role in her story.

  Backstory

  The life of Han-Gyeol can be described as gray and monotonous, most of his time growing up he spent either reading or going to extracurricular to improve his grades, his life consisted of the same old routine going to school, attending his extracurriculars, and going back to his home and in some occasions, he hung out with his friends. He was the kind of kid that didn't stand out but that you knew, and he was fine with it, he knew that being in the spotlight wasn't for him, he was fine with the small group of friends he had and doing the best he could at school, sure he was never at the top of his class but he was at least in the top five and in sports even if he didn't stand out he wasn't terrible at it.
  
  His parents never pressured him to become the best, and they knew their son was doing enough on his own and that he always had everything planned even if it didn't seem like it, his parents were the owners of a small restaurant which he would help during the weekends when he wasn't extremely busy with classes or exams, in simple words, Han-Gyeol's life was pretty much the usual life of a Korean child.
  
  When he entered high school it was when his life took a turn and the grey world that he was used to, turned into this world full of colors and brightness due to the presence of Lee Min-Ji, they were like complete opposites, while he was like the shadow who prefer to stay on the sidelines. Min-Ji was like a breath of fresh air, she brightened every place she was just like the sun did, her kind and friendly nature drawn him as a magnet would he was sure that nothing would happen between them, but that didn't stop him from crushing over the girl, the guy who didn't care that much about feelings became a hopeless romantic for this girl, helping her when she was carrying heavy stuff around school or even adding more to her plate when she visited his family restaurant. For Han-Gyeol just seeing the smile of Min-Ji was enough to think, that he did something good in his past life to be able to see receive her smiles.
  
  When the girl asked him to tutor her in math, at that moment he was thankful he took all those extracurricular classes while growing up, it was the moment when they started getting closer and what started as an innocent friendship soon became more than that and the two started dating, he wasn't lying when Han-Gyeol said that Min-Ji was his first, his first love, his first kiss, his first everything, even if they were still young it was obvious that the two loved each other more than words were able to express, his time in high school became the happiest he ever was thanks to Min-Ji.
  
  When the time came for university, he enrolled in architecture while Min-Ji decided on literature, their life at college couldn't be happier for them. They were studying what they were passionate about and still managed to be as close as they were back in high school. At the age of 20, Han-Gyeol had decided on asking Min-Ji to marry him, even if they were still in college, he knew that she was the right girl for him and didn't want to wait any longer when he was that sure of his feelings for her. He worked his ass off, in the restaurant and even got a part-time job to win enough money to buy her the prettiest ring that would make Min-Ji put the biggest smile on her face.
  
  The night that was supposed to be one of the happiest moments of their lives suddenly became a nightmare as Min-Ji got into a car accident and was rushed into the hospital, still with the ring in his hand Han-Gyeol waited for hours in order to receive some positive news a miracle that would make him feel like his life wasn't falling apart as he sat in the waiting room, but the miracle didn't happen and Min-Ji died, the life that once he dreamed with the love of his life was taken back just as he closed his eyes, the light that brightened his days and warmed his soul was gone, and the old self came back, he became immersed in school and prefer staying alone rather than spending time with her friends, he became a soulless body that only function based on his everyday routine, but even if people say that time heals all wounds, nothing can heal the emptiness he feels until this day, blaming himself every day for the death of Min-Ji, wondering what could have happened if he waited a couple of years or even one more day to ask her to marry him.
