The physics class was as muggy as always. The single desk fan going at full blast and all the windows open fully. Sweaty teenagers filled the room, some on detention, the normal reason anyone would bother going to this sweltering room. While others were here due to the chemical leak in the chemistry lab earlier that day due to kids fooling around. This room was where students went to study or for extra help after school. They were moved to the detention room of course. Finally, there was the occult club. Sitting at the number of only 3 members they have a little less than a month now to find another member or they will lose their club. The room they are normally in, nothing even close to what others would call a club room, was given to another club for the afternoon. A club with enough members that the student council valued far more than the accursed occult club.

Things went normal, the teacher, Mr. Lamey, had left the students to go and do stuff much better than watching a bunch of snotty-and at the moment sweaty-teenagers. He knew they couldn't leave the property until detention times were over. The security also wouldn't let them cheat the system. Their ID's wouldn't let them out and the officers would make sure they didn't manage to get out another way. Of course, since the student council president herself was here, the lazy old teacher took it as a chance for him to leave early and her to dismiss the detention room.

The clock ticked on towards freedom in the room, Anastasia had taken the teachers desk as a place to study and watch over the detention students. Two jocks, the ones who were here because they spilled the chemical carelessly, were messing around, earning a glare from Ana. They smirked as they stood up, taking the skull off the teacher's desk and began to play football with it. Ana stood up, scratching the seat behind her aggressively as she stood up. "Stop that this instant Brian and James!" she spoke loudly. The two didn't give her a glance as Brian through the skull. Sadly the throw was much too high and James, someone who is passionate about football, of course, attempted to catch it. A loud clang sounded as he thumped against the shelves behind him. The loud thunk sounded as the shelf fell over, landing in front of the door.

Ana was silent for a moment before she started lecturing the two, making them pick up the shelf. Since the students were in charge of cleaning classrooms in the end, there were no janitors on the job. They were only here for weekends or over breaks. No teachers stayed in there class late on the third floor and clubs had ended already-of course the occult club decided to stay later since they were given the chance-. No one came rushing to the class to see the ruckus, the teachers remaining all being on the first floor, too far away for the sound to be loud enough to cause them to investigate.

The boys picked the shelf back up, picking up the heavy physics textbooks that had also fallen. As they did that Brain spoke up, "Uh Ana, the doorknob is gone." Ana looked at him like he was stupid, pushing him aside to see. She froze, the little metal object sat carelessly on the ground. She attempted to open the door, but it didn't budge. "Way to go you two!" she hissed as she hit her head in annoyance. Their phones were confiscated at the office at the begging of each day. They couldn't use that to call for help. Ana raised her voice and called for someone to help. ... no response. Brain tried it too. .... no response. Some other students tried to open the door or cry for help, but no response came. That was until a failure jingle played on the announcements.

"The final call for any remaining staff or students. It is now 6:50. This is the last warning, please exit the school through one of the first-floor exits. Thank you."
Silence fell over the lab for a moment. Guess they are going to be the first to find out why you aren't allowed in the school after 7 pm.

"Great, this is just what I need!" Rei moaned vociferously while simultaneously wiping away at the taps hanging above the sinks, separating the students during a typical class within the room. The young man was compelled by the manager of the school soccer team, Mr. Sakata, to acquiesce to the school demands so that under the pretence of 'good behaviour', it may hasten his return to the team, given that they were reaching a critical juncture of the season and they needed one of their most consistent players. Having finished the taps and the sink for that row, Rei went about, rather rumbly, cleaning the desks with a few wipes, scrubbing away at the mahogany surface as though the activity were a point of effusion for his annoyance. The student glanced over at the other detainees messing about whilst the Student Council president, Anastasia, presided over the group of them with a scornful look upon her face. Then, though Rei wasn't really surprised (knowing the two lads involved), their messing around with a football ended up with one of them, Brian, colliding with a shelf and subsequently knocking it over, with the various physics books, copious in size, falling to the ground in a heap. Anastasia, leaping to her feet, not out of any concern for the nearly-injured party but rather as a means to castigate the duo. It was only in the aftermath, with Rei onlooking as though he were watching a drama, did everyone in the room realise that in the ensuing ruckus, that the doorknob had been knocked of its slot. As if to compound the terrible mood that had already descended upon the group, an announcement beamed out over the intercom stating that it was the last notice before the school would be closed.

As one would expect, panic ensued.

Though usually quite the giddy individual, Rei's own emotions can become tendentious towards the mood of the room and the anxiety of others seems to tether itself to him, which is a reason why the young man is always at pains to try and diffuse tense situations. Laying the cleaning duties aside, conscious of the various rumours that circulate around the school as to what happens following the lockdown of the school after 7:00PM, trudged over to the group who had caused their predicament and tried to ease their franticness. "Easy does it now," Rei said calmly, with the slightest degree of anxiety creeping into his voice, "The last thing that we need is to make this even worse for ourselves by panicking!" It was at this moment that the young man realised that his phone had been confiscated, like everyone else who had detention, before they had been brought to the room. Rei, therefore glanced over to Anastasia, being the student council president, thinking that she might have a phone on her person.

"Anastasia," he asked desperately, his voice cracking slightly, "You don't have your phone on you do ya?"

stuck in the dreary, sweltering room, ruka had been positioned in the far back of the classroom. the blonde had been reclined in his seat, leaning all the way back in his chair and propping up his feet up on top of the desk. yes, that was probably in flagrant violation of the rules - as the presiding teacher had so generously warned him several times - but ruka didn't exactly care about the rules. which is why he was probably stuck in detention in the first place.. something about dress code, or to that effect. what with his sweater tied around his waist, a few buttons popped off his dress shirt, he was just asking for trouble. not like ruka was inherently a bad kid. he attended his classes, was quite popular among his friends, and was a good sportsman when it came to athletics; it was simply that he didn't care to follow some rules over others. even if he didn't consider himself one, one might think he was well on his way to delinquency. well, this wouldn't have been the first time that warning had been cited to him, and this certainly wasn't going to be the last. perhaps it was due to the fact that he was well-off that he didn't really care about school- even if he flunked out for whatever reason, he had some wealth to back him up, right? that and he already knew what his plans were after his senior year was over, and they didn't necessarily require stellar grades, either.

unforunately, ruka's phone, along with the other students in here, had theirs taken from them when they entered the room. tch. that was a drag, and quite frankly, there was nothing else to do in here. he could clean and help out like a good little boy, but.. that was too much work. it was easier to wait here and just let the clock tick down to when they were finally free. there was some ruckus in here after the teacher left, which his icy gaze watched go down for some sort of entertainment. the student council president screaming at people was always fun to watch, at least for him. until a much louder bang of the shelf falling echoed through the room, indicating something bad had happened. and sure enough, once the two lifted the shelf up, there was shock around the class to see that the knob was taken out by the shelf.. great. ruka was understandably surprised himself, but by no means was he in a state of panic yet. it was alright, someone was going to check if they really left, right? especially if they didn't see them head out. but then again.. it seemed like everyone would be gone by 7 pm, without fail. even without checking if everyone really left.

"the knob's already broken, so you might as well break down that door, too," ruka said dryly, not exactly helping the situation. but if they were that desparate to leave, his humorless remark wasn't exactly a bad idea either.

BTGG.jpgIt was during the afternoon break when Izumi had received the news. She had been in the club room - nothing but a repurposed janitorial closet - making preparations for the evening's meeting when the student president had come knocking on the door. She could have sent any one of her minions, but Izumi knew it in her heart that the president had wanted to bear the news personally. After all these years she knew the president well enough to say that she had come mostly to gloat, to see the despair upon hearing that their minuscule club room had been given away. Izumi would not let her have the satisfaction.

Anastasia Kuznetsov had been trying to shut down Occult Club for almost as long as she had been student president. Up until this point, it had been Izumi's pleasure to resist, like a reoccurring weed in Kuzentsov's perfect garden that was her school. It had been difficult, but up until this point, manageable. She should have known that Kuznetsov would know about the loss of their fourth member, just as the shark smells blood. Today's relocation had been meant to be an insult, as they could not even discuss or talk out of respect for the other students doing homework, but Izumi was determined to make the most out of it.

Today's meeting would be a research day, specifically on demons and vengeful ghosts since she knew the president was rather terrified of such things. Izumi made sure to sit directly across from the president, propping her book up just enough that Kuznetsov could see the cover title: The Yoshida Guide to the Demonic and Paranormal. She had read it several times by now, but today it was mostly just to prove a point. She sat at a table with her only two club members, glancing up at the student president every now and then.

Izumi remained silent throughout the whole shelf incident, noticing the door handle issue before the president opened her fat mouth to state it. Honestly, it made her feel quite happy to see the look of terror in Kuznetsov's perfect face. That is, if she didn't feel a similar worry. Izumi lowered her book, sliding in a black silk bookmark before closing it gently. The pages made a satisfying poof as they closed together, all too loud in the sudden silence. She stood up behind her desk and gave the other students an even look, her voice eerily calm as always. "The school closes at 7 PM... which means we have less than 10 minutes to both get the door open and make it to the first floor entrance. Even if we called someone for help, they would have to be in the building at this moment to arrive on time. I do not think I need to remind you all of the automatic locks, either."

Her red eye shifted to the golden boy seating behind her, noting how nonchalant he was about their current situation. He suggested kicking down the door, which wasn't a half bad idea if it wasn't for the strictness of the school. "We have already broken the door handle, and by extension school property. Destroying the door will only get us into more trouble...and damage fees. I will not have such a thing pitted on Occult Club."

At her last statement she shot a pointed glance at the student president, a warning perhaps, but mostly just an old rivalship. Izumi stepped away from her desk and drifted towards the window, gazing down at the courtyard below. In the gathering dusk you could just make out the fallen petals crowding in corners and under empty benches. Many of them had lost their color and had wilted in the sun, now setting. It was only now that such common, everyday things sent a rush of unusual dread up her spine.

"I do not suppose the window is an option either. At this rate, we may be locked within the school until morning..." She could feel a growing emptiness after her words had faded, a grim realization settling in. Her previous club leader had told her that Occult Club was founded by students who had tried to get into the school after hours, but she had never expected a chance to do so herself. She wasn't sure if she should be excited or afraid at the opportunity.

Nao wasn't on the best track once returning to school. Not just the attention, something she didn't expect to blow up as much as it did, but somehow she ended up in detention. Feeling her hand sting from the bruised knuckles she let out a heavy sigh and watched the others clean and horse around. The room was sweltering, she couldn't blame Mr. Lamey from wanting to head out. Tugging at her collar, she could feel the warmth underneath her clothes. She was used to being warm but it was getting too much. Though I suppose you can say this is also part of the punishment. Leaning back she looked up at the ceiling trying her best to think cool thoughts as she tried to find images in the textured ceiling letting time pass by.

Noticing the jocks begin to toss around a football she wondered what it was like to be so carefree and tilted her head to look at her hand. Thinking of what had happened to send her to detention, she didn't expect to go so far or that the teacher would be right there at the moment. I'm going to have to apologize to her later, Nao thought to herself. The growing sound of Brian and James playing around took her attention as she watched as James tried to catch the football and the shelf fell over in front of the door with a loud thud. Jolting at the large thud she slid her chair back to get up to help them with the shelf only to stop as she heard Brian speak out.

"Uh Ana, the doorknob is gone."

Her heart sunk as she heard that the door handle was broken. Nao's mind instantly went to her little sister, and if her father was home to look after her. Recalling their conversation that morning Nao gave a sigh of relief knowing that her father would be in town tonight. At least I Ami's alright. Nao looked over at the others as the Student Council President yelled at the two who broke the door. Ana wasn't wrong to be upset but she was being a bit harsh and all that anger and exertion would only hurt in the long run. We need to get out of this room.

Hearing everyone panic and begin to argue Nao stood up and looked out at the others with concern. "Calm down everyone. It will be alright." She gave a warm smile and looked over at the door "Look the door locks from the inside which means kicking the down will be much harder. It would make more sense to break the pins on the door and pull it." Nao said pointing to the hinges. "If we break them there's minimal damage to the door and we can at the very least get out of this hot room." She pulled her hand away and scratched her head before twirling the tip of her short hair in her fingers. Nao felt a bit tense, she wasn't used to offering her opinions and ideas to others. "Or not..." Nao added softly, her mind began to recall that the doors were likely bolted shut without a ID card. "I just think we shouldn't stress out too much it's not good to overexert ourselves."

Ana blinked at Rei for a moment, almost as if asking if he was serious. "No, students pass in their phones in the morning, remember?" she spoke smoothly before her face turned sour. Oh, the cursed voice of Izumi. She glared at the other girl, "in case you and your group of ruffians forgot, staying after hours or an attempt to results in expulsion. I am not losing my chance at future schools because of you lot." she hissed out at her.

"Make that three minutes now." Came a pointed reply by Aiko. She proceeded to let out a yawn right after, her carefree attitude a stark opposite from the other occult member. Bee was biting her fingernails anxiously as she glanced at the window. The room was getting too small and hot for her. And the sweater she was wearing was tight on her neck. She anxiously organized the occults books as she tried to calm herself down from the soon to be expulsion.

"I honestly think that the automatic doors aren't going to complain if we sign out a little late. Plus we can just jump over the security checkpoints when we figure out how to open the door. Not like any of the stuffy teachers or guards are here to stop us." Kazue had a point as he spoke, "plus they won't expel their perfect student because she got locked in by the schools worst. Don't get your diploma in a twist. We can just say we forgot to sign out or explain you know, what actually happened. They can't get mad at us for that." For some, this point calmed down a few. But it didn't matter. Only a breath after Kazue spoke a click sounded in the halls.

Automatic doors gently shut, all the lights in the school clicked off. The room lit by the outside light, slowly fading. The room fell silent as everyone held their breath for a moment. Silence ensued for a moment and Kazue let out a sigh, "see it's not a big deal-" he stopped speaking as a slow thud of footsteps came towards the doors.

Ana perked up at the sound, "hey! Is someone out there? We're trapped in the physics lab!" The thudding stopped. Ana looked confused, "Hello?? Hello???" Her face contorted in anger. She went to yell again when suddenly there was a loud thud on the door. It shook the door, the hinges on it groaning in pain.

Ana looked at the door in confusion. "W-whos out there? The handle should work on that side. You don't need to-" the figure hit the door again, harder this time. Ana looked at the door and glanced at the group. "Stop this now!" Thud. Ana visibly looked uncomfortable, her yelling was getting nowhere.

"There isn't supposed to be teachers here after hours. Maybe it's a spooky ghost." Aiko spoke broadly, though she had sat up, on alert.

Ana glared harshly at her before biting her lips, "we need to hide. I don't think that's a teacher. I think someone has broken into the school. Or something. If it is not we can come out." She spoke quietly so only those in the room could hear. Her face was contorted in an anxious manner. This didn't make any sense to her. But something in the air made her heart race and her palms sweat.

Detention was bad enough, the young man thought to himself anxiously, but now I get to see what all those rumours are about! But at this juncture, it wasn't just Rei that was beginning to appear and feel a bit anxious; that general feeling had whirled its way around the room. Nao, he noticed, tried to ease the the tension that had taken root in all the students but, as what tends to happen in a panic, her voice of reason was drowned by the frantic yammering of all the other detainees. And if there was anybody that would been able to swing everybody's attention to a calmer standpoint, if not for the near juxtaposition of her build compared to her voice. Though not being too particularly acquainted with the kendo-club member, even Rei was surprised to find that the elegant Nao was nearly subsumed by this short-haired, bandage-wrapped woman that appeared during senior year; a lot of the students in her year group nearly thought her to be a different person entirely! Rei gave her a comforting smile as she stood back, somewhat desultory, away from the crowd. Rei could tell that the atmosphere was becoming increasingly frayed, as Izumi made something of a pointed remark towards Anastasia, who was still in the midst of castigating Brian and James for getting the whole room into this situation. Rei didn't fully understand the dynamic between Izumi and Anastasia but one thing was clear to the student, if that little barb about sanctions of a monetary kind being imposed on the Occult Club, was that they did not get along...at all.

Suggestions were being bandied about, such as maybe trying to escape from the windows, though Izumi herself nipped that particular idea in the bud fairly quickly. It was at this moment that Anastasia, somebody a tad bit prudish for Rei's liking (especially in that look she gave him when the latter asked about phones!) but her rational outlook to the situation lightened the mood somewhat, as much as Rei, who had something of an exaggerated sulk on his face, wished to deny. Just as Rei was about to utter "Maybe all those rumours were tall tales!", a sound reverberated down through the hall and the student nearly passed out from shock.

To compound Rei's burgeoning shock, all the lights in the room shut off suddenly whilst the automatic doors, going against their programming, shut resolutely. Then, all of a sudden, and contrary to the expectations of everyone in the room, a pair of footsteps was heard moving uniformly down the hall and, if Rei was inclined to think in the moment, heading right towards the room they were in. Almost as though he were an animal before an earthquake or a tsunami, Rei sensed the possibility of a volatile situation, the student dashed around to the desk that he was cleaning and ducked into a kneeling position, his frazzled, usually-giddy grey-eyes peering out over the mahogany surface. A rather ill-timed comment by Aiko earned as much as a displeased glare that Rei could manage over his frightened state. It wasn't long before Anastasia suggested the very same action that Rei took.

Lovely, Rei thought, this is some trial to try and get back unto the team!

ruka's relaxed expression was no longer visible on his features as time ticked toward the time they were supposed to leave. it was as if the realization of how serious this was finally hit him.. of course, ruka didn't exactly know what would happen if they stayed after seven. sure, the announcement said to leave before that time, but who would know they were here if everyone had already left? would they be in trouble? he wasn't usually one to worry his head off about things like this, but perhaps it was the unspoken threat of something happening if they didn't leave that had been unnerving. even someone like him left before seven, and there didn't seem to be a single explanation for why that rule existed. the simple prospect of that was enough to have even the most rational one out of all of them feel nervous, at least somewhat. was he acknowledging that there could have been something supernatural at play here? well.. that was a ridiculous conclusion to arrive at - childish, even. the chances of that happening weren't exactly zero, but.. there were more adult, more likely explanations for that. he doubt ghosts made the lights go off. "no one's supposed to be in here, right? maybe they know that, and the lights automatically cut off." ruka offered, and honestly, it was likely everyone was thinking the same thing, or wanted to, at least. it was best if they didn't let paranoia get the best of them, certainly not in a enclosed space.

"heh.. okay. i didn't think you were the type to pull pranks on us, prez," ruka said with a confused smile, his brow twitching slightly in nervousness. but by the way the student council president was acting, it became increasingly unlikely that she was up to this. no, her anger and fear were far too real for this to be staged. and ruka didn't like that one bit. "if it's not a teacher, who else could it be? i think we're too old to seriously think it's a ghost, right?" the blonde continued, casting a glance at the door. if it wasn't the president nor the teachers playing a prank on them then.. no, ghosts couldn't be real. the prospect of it being an outside intruder was still possible though. in any case, the only thing they could do was hide and wait for morning to arrive. if they panicked now, it was likely they'll only turn on each other.

Izumi looked up at the lights overhead, noting how they flickered one last time before growing dull and dead, like an unspoken deathrattle. A silence fell over the room, but it was deeper than most. She realized it must be all the electronics powering down, even from their normal standby modes. Everything was still, quiet, so much that she was sure the others would hear her heartbeat.

Were they the first students to have ever stayed after hours? The old members of Occult Club, back when it was an actual club, had believed it to be haunted. She had heard almost all of the ghost stories, and most of the different twists that people added every time they retold it. She had tried to investigate some of them, specifically the bathroom summoning ritual, but nothing had come from it. If the place was haunted, the ghosts were either too weak to respond or too snobbish.

She heard the footsteps at the same time the president did, watching the shadow beneath the door. It was all she could do to keep from flinching when whoever was on the other side slammed themselves into the door. All at once the hairs on the back of her neck stood on end, her gut growing heavy. She had a very bad feeling about this.

Some of the others voiced their opposing opinions, but Izumi quickly added her own.

"No, I agree with Kuznetsov " She paused, blinked, seeming just as surprised by the words coming out of her mouth. In a moment she regained her composure, though not fully. There was an ounce of fear tricking through her stony demeanor. ""All faculty leaves before this time. That is not a teacher... if they were they could use a card."

She turned to her two club members, keeping her voice as calm and quiet as possible so they would be too. Her eye looked over the room, trying to determine where was the best place to hide. The lab desks were long and solid on the bottom, where equipment was stored. It could block vision, but not if someone walked around. She needed to create distance between herself and the door. "To the back, both of you. Now!"

Izumi lead the other two to the back, near the desk Ruka sat at. She crouched down close to Anabelle, knowing the girl would be terrified. Out of experience, she also knew the girl was likely to scream if she wasn't careful, so she readied herself to put a hand over her friend's mouth. While she listened to the door being slammed against she noticed that Ruka was still sitting. He definitely didn't think this was a possible threat. Honestly, logic told her that it wasn't either, but the weird chill in the air made her think otherwise. If her occult studies taught her anything, it was that you should always listen to the latter.

"Psst!" she hissed at him, motioning for him to get down and under cover.

Nao noticed Rei smile at her and gave a soft smile back before giving him a nod of understanding. Pulling her fingers away from her short hair and back to her sides. She was glad that someone else was trying to calm everyone down. Knowing how scary this must feel she didn't judge the others for panicking, she was used to seeing others at their weakest and wanted nothing more to help bring them back up. Worry encompassed her as she wanted the others to calm down, otherwise they're going to be exhausted later on. She'd seen how dangerous over exertion and heat stroke was on someone, unused freshmen determined to win in hot kendo gear in the summer often passed out from one or the other. There must be something we can do to at least cool down this place, if not their bodies. Listening to them argue amongst themselves Nao didn't notice the sound of the footsteps. It wasn't until Ana spoke up that she wondered what was going on, was someone there?

Thinking on who it could be her mind stopped as she heard the heavy thud against the door. It broke through everything in the room and startled everyone. Unless she missed it, there wasn't any warning, not a call from the other side. The sound of her racing heartbeat stifled by the pounding against the door, each reverberation rattling the door and it's frame. It was aggressive and unprovoked, Nao's eyes sharpened as her fight or flight instincts kicked in, she wasn't one to back away from danger. Walking towards the door she spoke out to them, "back away from the door!" Nao shouted as she instinctively reached out for the two nearest to the door, Anastasia and Rei, and stopped as someone else already pulled them away. Glad the others had quick instincts, moving to the next objective, they needed to figure out how much time they had.

Looking over at the growing banging door she placed a hand on it to feel it's stability. The bend of the wood was growing more apparent whatever or whoever this was had enough strength to seriously damage the door with just a few slams. Hearing the rapid pace of footsteps she could tell whatever was coming back. Snapping her hand away as she felt the force of whatever was on the other end she looked back at the others. "It's not going to hold." Agreeing with Ana that some of them should hide, Nao knew that there was only a few options to hide and some chemicals here that if someone dangerous barreled in could do some damage. They needed an opening and they needed a chance to get out, being penned in here wasn't a good idea.

She walked over to them, "no ghost would have this kind of force. It's tangible," which means we can pin whoever this is. Moving to the desk she was sitting at earlier she took her case and slung it over her shoulder, to prepare herself for whatever comes next. She wouldn't do anything with her blade before knowing her enemy. The last thing she wanted was to hurt someone trying to help them. Moving to the Jocks and the other boys she knelt down and spoke calmly. "Given the rhythm it's one person, we outnumber them. If it is an intruder we need to take him down quickly. Are you all with me?"

"No, I agree with Kuznetsov "
Ana was just as spooked by the statement by the other girl, losing her composer for a moment before regaining it just as quickly as the other girl. She quickly hid along with the others, biting her lip in worry realizing that all their stuff was still out in the open. Though Nao did say something along the lines of a plan to overpower the intruder. It could work by her palms were still slick with sweat from the time she stood close to the door. The automatic turning off of the power making it even worse.

Bee had quickly migrated to right next to Izumi when they hid. Her breaths short from fear but also still managing to be under control from practice. At least the occult field trips to the abandoned places managed to be scary but she was prepared, knowing it was coming. Here she had no idea what was on the other side of that door, not to mention this situation was far more real than the ones the occult had ever faced.

Aiko had crouched behind the two club members, strangely silent. Her large figure pretty much shielded the other two from the back, this of course was definitely not intentional. Why would she ever do that? Not that Aiko would admit anything if someone brought it up. From her position in hiding, similar to everyone else she could not see the door, hiding making sure that neither the intruder nor herself would be able to see if/when they entered. Rolling her eyes she grabbed the back of Ruka and ungracefully pulled him down to the hiding place they were in. Covering his mouth to shut up any protests or complaints.

Kazue had taken similar to everyone else in hiding. The president made it so the person on the other side of the door knew they were there so the plan of jumping them seemed to be the best-case scenario, however, no one knew who was on the other side. If they were on the other side or who/what was there. Licking his chapped lips he glanced from his hiding spots, mentally face-palming at what he saw.

Brian and James stood the same place, "Wow you guys are scared, psh it's just some dude. Don't be pussies." James joked out. The door began to crack under the loud thumps, brain looked as uneasy as those hiding but he didn't want to be weak in front of his friends. So swallowing back his fear he stood with his friends. There was a final crack as the door gave out under the creature. "What the FUCK-" a scream came from both boys' lips before utter silence filled the room.

In what was barely a second where they had all seemed to blink something had happened. When some grew courage to look they saw the door and splinters of it scattered the floor. The door's frame was splattered in a black substance that also splattered the floors. However, the biggest noticeable thing was that both Brian and James had disappeared. No trace of them was left but the echos of their screams in all their heads.

Rei couldn't believe it; one moment, Brian and James were standing there, with the later being rather unperturbed by the repeated blows being delivered against the door and the next, the duo had disappeared, leaving nothing but the remains of the now shattered door and a blackish liquid that seeped all over the floor. The student, his eyes rattling around with fright, averted his gaze from the scene that had just unfolded and slumped against the cabinet that held all the science equipment, just to the right of the desk he had been cleaning. What the hell happened?! Rei though to himself, combing everything through everything that could have possibly occured in those few seconds between the door caving in and Brian & James disappearing. Though Rei had been peering over the desk, somewhat concealed as he was and maybe against the interest of his own safety, but at the moment the sound of the door shattered, Rei ducked beneath the desk, the sound of Brian and James' screams reverberating throughout the room. Though he had glanced away at the pertinent moment, Rei felt as though he had seen the flicker of a figure moving at high speed, but that was all he could glean from the experience. Glancing around at all the other huddled bodies dotting the room, Rei saw the same thing: a feeling of pure terror etched on their faces. "Try to calm down, try to calm down," Rei muttered to himself before slowly rising from his seated position, peaking over the desk to see that nothing was there and making his way, rather slowly, over to the wreckage.

As Rei made his way over to where Brian and James had last been standing, his suspicions were slowly becoming actualised; that liquid that stained the ground and what remained of the door...was blood.

"Guys..." Rei said, his voice shaky with trepidation, "I-I think Brian and James a-are...d-d-dead."

When the door finally shattered, Izumi quickly covered Bee's mouth, hoping she could muffle any screams her friend might have reacted with. On their field trips and nightly investigations around town Bee had been scared at the best of times, and that was only at shadows and rustling leaves. This was something else. She knew it by the cold lump of dread in her gut. Her breaths came heavy as she heard the screams and then... silence.

Izumi waited a good long time before even daring to move, making sure there was nothing else in the room. Slowly letting go of Bee, she peered over the table and looked towards the door. The frame had been torn on one side, where the hinges had been pulled loose, and on the floor lay the shattered remnants of a door. Whoever - no - whatever had broken it had a strength unmatched by any human. Nothing remained of the two jocks save for a pool of a dark substance. It was too dark to make it out, but Izumi had a good idea. Yet something was bothering her; there were no tracks of blood or smears at all. Just a motionless black puddle.

Already one of their classmates, Rei, had gone up to investigate. Seeing as nothing pounced on him, it seemed safe to say that whatever had broken the door was gone. For now. Izumi pulled herself up to her feet, giving her two occult members an even look. She kept herself cool and collected, knowing that if she showed any signs of uncertainty they would panic as well. Just like she must do during any paranormal investigation, it was her duty as leader to keep them calm. Now, she supposed she would have to try her best to keep them safe. She clenched a fist to keep her hand from shaking.

She quietly walked to the front of the room, stopping beside Rei. She knelt down, staring at the dark puddle on the floor. Beyond it, the hallway was dark, vacant yet... felt like it was filled with a thousand eyes. Shaking her head, Izumi plucked a pencil from the teacher's desk and prodded the fluid with it. She brought it under her nose, made a face, then lowered the pencil.

"This is not blood...or at least, not fresh" She stated simply, raising her voice only enough for the others to hear but nothing else. Her tone was matter of fact, her expression blank as she cast it towards the others, as if daring them to object. ""It's closer to... rot. If Brian or James left this it would not smell so... rancid. It smells as if it has been here for a long time. Were we outdoors it would be swarming with maggots."

Izumi rose to her feet, smoothed out her skirt and glancing back out into the hallway, expecting to see some looming monstrosity. The dark empty hall stared back, unchanging. Somehow that was worse. She turned her back to it and returned to the table she had sat at during their detention. Carefully, she retrieved her sidebag from her seat, placed it around her shoulder, then began to slowly place her books back into it. Her fingers felt numb.

"there's no way," ruka had mumbled, his expression still wrinkled in worry. now, he was usually a sharp person by any stretch of the word, but even he had some sense about him. and sense was telling him that there was no way it could have been anything supernatural. whether he refused to accept the possibility of that becoming true was another matter.. but, regardless, he had cooperated for now, setting himself underneath the desk as well. perhaps this was the safest course of action they could take. whether it was a teacher, intruder, or something else, one thing was for certain; they definitely weren't going out there, even if they could. ruka brought his knees up to his chest, his icy gaze fixated on the floor in a blank stare. he didn't want to be a pessimist, but anxiousness was ever so surely taking its grip on them with every passing second.. would they even be alright? a flicker of worry began to show itself in the cracks of the carefree front he had put up, wearing it down slowly, gradually. his head shot up to one suggestion, but he too, shook his head. initially the doubter, his contention the idea that it might have been something supernatural also began to fade. ruka wasn't certain that it would have been easy as it was suggested.

for now, the blonde tried to keep his wits about him, a subtle shiver running down his skin. the loud banging on the door seemed to wear down at his effort, and slowly pushed him to edge of a breakdown. while he could manage a cool head, ruka was still human.. nothing was adding up, and the greatest factor to his fear wasn't what the speculation of it could have been, but simply because of not knowing what it was. for someone that was usually outgoing and relaxed, he was quite meek in this situation; but then again, they all were.

ruka flinched at the sound of the door cracking, though his back was turned away from the door, not daring to face whatever had breached in. he sat, unmoving, not wanting any attention drawn their direction. the blood curling scream from the duo had no doubt had thrown his mind into near hysteria, imagining the worst thing that had happened to them, judging by those screams. and ruka had just wanted to leave.. at the same time, what little semblance of logic he had left urged him to stay, afraid of meeting a similar fate if he had left. even long after the unknown creature apparently left, he was among the last to move from his spot, still shaken up. for now, it seemed as if they would be safe. but he had a feeling that would only be a temporary grace, and sooner or later, they had to do something. at least anything to avoid ending up.. dead, as they claimed brian and james were.

the distressed look never really eased away, knowing that they were all vulnerable right now. that creature could have come back and do the same thing to any one of them. but for now, ruka returned to his table with reluctance. was this why they weren't allowed after seven o'clock? did the teachers know about that strange creature? and did the occult club have anything to do with this..? questions swam through his head, but ruka would have half a mind to throw accusations now. it was clear they had to get out of here first, before anything. "so what do we do? doesn't seem like we can leave, or we might end up running into that thing. but then again.. it might come back for the rest of us," ruka had finally voiced his worries and identified the dllema they were in. both situations weren't appealing at all, but honestly, he would rather risk trying to get out than a guaranteed fate if they stayed.

Nao was ready to tackle whoever or whatever was behind the door but of course the two strongest, and supporting the cliche, apparently the dumbest refused to back away. Cursing them to herself she tried to keep her composure and readied herself to attack. Taking slow steady breaths she honed her focus on the door. Adjusting her position and grounding her feet to lunge at whoever broke in. Her mind drifted to her Kendo club, on a hot summer day. Under her mask her breathing steadied as she focused on her opponent in front of her, waiting and ready for that precise strike to take them down. Swift and powerful, she thought to herself as another thud hit the door.

She was ready.

As the door broke Nao's eyes widened as in an instant the two boys that were standing there were gone in a flash. What the? She couldn't comprehend what exactly happened, one moment they were there and them they were gone. There wasn't a body there was nothing but that black goo. Watching as Rei got up to investigate, Nao instinctively called out, "be careful!" Realizing what she said she pulled her hand back and spoke again more softly, "sorry but do be careful." The shock was settling in, her mind was racing trying to grasp an understanding of what just happened. Her hands were trembling, I need to do something, anything. Forcing herself to keep moving Nao stood up and took a breath. She looked at Rei as she inspected the goo, noticing the pencil wasn't affected, Nao picked up a few chairs and moved over to the goo.

"So if it's not them. Do you think they may be alive?" Nao asked before setting the first chair down on the rot. Watching to make sure it was safe she stepped on the chair seat and placed another chair down. "We can't stay here. There might be a way out if we search for one, like an emergency exit or maybe even a bunker. And if Brian and James are alive we should look for them." Nao said before stopping and looking over at them. "It might be dangerous, but I don't want to wait here for anything else to come through the door. I can't be a sitting duck for whatever that was to come." Thoughts of her family crossed her mind, she wanted to go home, and she was going to make that happen.

Kazue snorted at Izumi, "Maybe they were rotten to the core," he shrugged, not one of his best jokes but to be honest the situation had his chest a little tight with worry. Shrugging off the worry he leaned against one of the desks lazily as if he wasn't in the situation. He watched amused as Aiko walked over, pocketing one of the larger shards of wood as people talked, a simple weapon most likely to make herself feel safer.

Bee on the other hand rushed over to Izumi, nervously close as her eyes darted around. "Koko, you don't think the school is haunted right? Is it some intruder? Do you know anything?" she asked, her voice strained with worry and fear. She cracked her knuckles as she watched the doors and windows warily, wanting nothing more than to go home and have some hot tea and watch a movie with Izumi.

Anastasia on the other hand stood rooted in her place, staring at the place where Brain and James stood with a pale, terrified face. Her hands shook in a painfully obvious way as she stood silent. Without warning she quickly strutted up to Izumi and grabbed her by her collar, "This has something to do with you and your freak club doesn't it. What the fuck did you do with James and Brain. This isn't a joke you sicko." her voice shook with a mixture of anger and fear as she glared at the girl angrily, her face highlighted with fear.

"So if it isn't blood," Rei wondered, his eye following Izumi as the latter went back to the desk she had been sitting at before the incident, "And it happens to be a rot of some kind, could it have something to do with that took Brian and James?" The young man was slowly but surely being indued with the weary, frightened atmosphere feeling that, like the odour emanating from what he had thought to have been blood, was wafting around. Nao walked past him, carrying a couple of chairs before plopping down on the nauseous mass, one after the other. Rei, usually a giddy fellow, was disappointed in how overt he was showing his panic compared to his colleagues. Izumi, calmly discerning the nature of the substance left in the wake of Brian & James abduction/deaths, Nao testing to see whether the rot was corrosive by using the chairs as something of a litmus test. And there was one of the stars of the soccer team, stuttering and shaking as though he had been blasted by a piercing wind. But, it seemed as though he were not the only who was letting the near-paranormal activity get them to them mentally.

Just as Rei was trying to make something of a declaration as to his intentions, a scuffle broke out between Izumi and Anastasia, who had been scolding Brian and James moments before they had been taken. The student council president, who had been delegated supervision over the the cleaning of the chemistry room, maybe exhibiting something akin to regret, grabbed Izumi violently, stating that whatever happened to both the duo was the result of the latter, being a member of the Occult Club, were doing. Rei thought about intervening in that jolly, arm-around-the-shoulder style of peace-making he was known for among his friend, but given the situation, as well as the nature of the relationship that existed between Izumi and Anastasia, the young man fought against his nature and decided to step back from mediating for a change.

Leaning, with his back against the desk he had been cleaning, Rei had overheard Ruka's own thoughts and what they should do. The young man nodded, before replying in a tired voice, "I don't think we'd be safe staying here. If we stay here, whatever took Brian & James will know that we're here too. But if we leave, at least we'll have a better chance of finding a way out of here and avoiding that...that things."
