30 chakrams?

One Time Luck
hello everyone. I've been reading the board for quite a while but here's my shiny fist post. And I allready have a question.

My new campaing starts soon and unlike the last one this will focus heavily on Dragon Blooded antagonists.

To have some realy dangerous opponents I tried to build Wyld Hunt like they are described in second edition. I don't know if the Dragon style martial arts will be the same but for the time being I will asume they are pretty similar. And even in first edition it would be a question.

I build an essence five, martial arts five Air Dragon Style Master. Now an air dragon martial artists can throw 5 chakrams per action. Using the final charm of the tree he would get five extra thrown attacks each action. That would mean he can throw 30 of the things in one action (or turn for first ed).

That seems a bit powerfull for me, did I get that wrong or are these guys intended to be so dangerous?

Anyone who's completely mastered a Celestial MA Style should be dangerous.

As far as changes to the Dragon Paths in Second Edition, the STC has some stop-gap conversions, and I believe the 2E Dragon-Blooded book is now on the shelf. If you're playing a 2E game that focuses heavily on DBs, you should probably pick it up.

wow that was fast ;)

Thanks for the answer. I have to make a few dry runs against the characters stats before using the in the game. With 30 or more chakrams the defense penality would be insane.

I will get all the new books just like the old one but it usualy takes two to four weeks longer till the stuff is on the shelves in europe.

That's what IO martial arts do   , i personnally i'd throw a water style martial artist at one of them, water immaculates can be VERY scary...

Welcome to the ECR mate... and listen to the wise words of Stillborn the Great :)

A few things:

  1. Using the Tornado Offense Technique, it would only be 25 attacks, not 30, as the "normal" action is consumed by charm activation. It would be 30 with Hurricane Combat Method, which is Reflexive and lasts a while.
  2. These rules were written before Power Combat, the Infinite Jade Chakram or 2E. With the increased ping damage in Power Combat, this effect becomes much to powerful. This was discussed before.
  3. It's never been completely clear to me how rate applied to this situation.
  4. Second Edition clears this up. For one thing, the signature weapon effect is now a fixed two chakram, not equal to MA. Extra attacks from Hurricane Combat Method now equal to Essence (but they are at half speed!).

Looking at the chakram in 1ed, less powerful than a throwing knife, I am guessing 3-5 inches diameter. How many would your DB be able to carry. Being part of eth wild hunt he doesn’t have to be subtle so I would let him have a brace of 30,maby 2. it may be nasty when he uses it but he can only do so as long as he has ammunition, if he uses it against an opponent with a reflexive dodge or parry charm. It will cost that target a lot of essence and be a lot of attacks against full DV. If the target has persistent defiance running it will just be a lot of attacks against full DV, he is going against solars so ether of those is a distinct possibility.

I always pictured them as more frisbee sized, like that retarded thing Xena was always chucking.

Anyone with mastery of their style would have an infinite Jade Chakram; their patrons/abbots would be foolish not to give them one.

And I'd go with Wordman's suggestion for the 2nd ed one, but as it's a multiple action charm it ignores rate so you attack as often as the charm allows.

thanks for all the answers guys.

Once I finally get may hands on a DB book it will be much more easy. Just to check, if I see this right. From what I read here an essence 5 Air Dragon fighter with Hurricane Combat Method would throw 10 Chakrams per action and that with a speed of 2. Meaning you could still throw something between 20 and 30 before someone with speed 5 or six gets to act.

Looks good. Of course you kill yourself pretty fast since you also get that one damage every two ticks then.

(and since the description of the Infinite Jade Chakram says it is almost the signature weapon of the style I will of course asume one is available for that person).
