Trying to find that 900th Korok
Chapter 1: Lost in the Woods
In the depths of Hyrule, there is a particularly known forest. Blue-green fog surrounded it, protecting the inhabitants from evil by acting as a sort of labyrinth. This forest was known as the Lost Woods. A young Kokiri boy named Link was currently riding his horse, Epona, through these woods. He had just completed a very lengthy quest, but in the process lost a very important friend. He was now searching for his fairy, Navi. He gripped Epona's reigns tightly as the fog rolled along the ground. Unfortunately, the boy did not see something approaching. It was a small child wearing a heart-shaped mask with many strange markings. With an echoing giggle, the child forced Epona to stop, throwing Link off as the kid began to rummage through his stuff, taking interest in a blue ocarina. He played a few notes, cackling wickedly. Link looked up with a glare, and attempted to tackle the lad, who nimbly dodged, before mounting Epona. Much to Link's dismay, he began to forcefully ride the horse through the woods. Wounded from the fall, Link weakly tried to grab on to Epona, and dragged himself along the ground. This chase went on for quite a while, until finally Link chased the kid into a small valley, where he saw the child floating, no horse present, with two fairies by his side. In a raspy but still child-like voice, the kid said,"You're really persistant, aren't you?" Link simply continued to glare.
"Don't worry, I took care of that slow horse for you." Link gasped at this comment, before feebly attempting to tackle the child. The child shook his head, finding Link quite idiotic by this point. Suddenly, he threw out his limbs and seemed to mumble dark whisperings, as Link felt something. His bones suddenly felt like wood, and he felt lighter and shorter. Before he could even attempt to infer what had happened, he had a vision, and a nightmarish one at that. He was surrounded by small wooden creatures actively rattling about, as a giant one began to chase Link, who just kept running in the darkness. Suddenly, he came to his senses, and looked down. He was one of the creatures, with wooden skin and a permanent open mouth. He let out a scream, but it came out as a gurgle. The Child just cackled, before performing cartwheels to enter a door nearby, the darker fairy following him immediately. The lighter one taunted like by hitting him a couple times, and began to charge back to enter the door...only to find it was closed.
"No! Skull Kid! Wait for me!" The Fairy desperately called out, to no avail. "T-Tael!" Then, it turned to Link, and took on a much angrier tone.
"You! If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't be stuck here!" Link was taken aback by this sudden change of mood, before the Fairy spoke once more.
"...Well! I guess you'll just have to get me out of here! Maybe we can find your dumb horse or whatever, just get me back to Tael!" Reluctantly, it continued.
"...I'm Tatl. We're stuck together for now. Just open that door, please." Link obliged slowly, as he pushed open the door and entered the log-like passage before him. Before he knew it, Link was inside some sort of ancient ruins. Water ran through gears and wheels, powering whatever was above, as Link simply climbed up stairs, with Tatl close behind him. He entered a large room with a huge door. Light was shining through it, but before Link could quite make it there, a voice spoke coldly behind him.
"...You've met a terrible fate, haven't you?"
