Mechanized Artyom
This is work-in-progress. Feel free to PM me if you have prior interest, and please be patient as I finish up the following.
- Notable Systems
- Ships
- Weaponry
- Miscellaneous Lore

Hello everybody, I was hoping for something that involved heavy Sci-Fi and inspirations off of video games such as Elite. I can either GM or play a character while still maintaining the NPCs and such. This will almost certainly have a dedicated beginning - middle - end to the story, due to the nature of the roleplay itself. I will even provide a couple paths that we can take, going from Exploration to Combat and Politics.
setting

The year is 3294. Martian Time is the standard on all ships.
The Galaxy
The Milky Way galaxy is currently the only galaxy mankind can explore, and some systems are still unreachable due to the limitations of technology. At the same time, there are several systems that are considered only one-way trips. There are roughly 400 Billion stars, with many of them either interesting or anomalies. Planets vary wildly, going from tiny rocky dwarf planets to large, metal, lava planets, to an even more massive Super-Jupiters. There have even been rumors of planets that can function as portals to other galaxies, but this hasn't been confirmed.

Human Space
Human space is the only known part of the galaxy that contains a mass amount of intelligent life. While wildlife does exist on other planets, Humans are the only ones to have gotten so advanced. It's more of a wild west, consisting of chaos in order. There are colonies all over the galaxy, however, existing mostly near nebulae or rich parts of the galaxy. Areas to mine, inhabit, or expand are the most popular. Apart from those, there are research bases and scientific capital ships exploring the galaxy.

Deep-Space
Deep space is mostly uncharted, save for the occasional star here or there from an expedition. Despite the amount of traffic, fleets consisting of thousands of pilots to travel in deep space. They've been to the abyss, the galactic core, and pretty much every sector. Still, much of the 400 billion stars go unexplored. This, of course, still leaves the possibility for intelligent life. That, or perhaps the anomalies are something far different.

Superpowers

The Empire - A monarchal government, it is the second largest superpower out of the primary three. It's system consists of a powerful Emperor, followed by the King and Queen, followed by the Princes and Princesses, and so on. Most notably, the Senators of the Empire have great power, each controlling a portion of Empire space. They're present to enforce the law, but they themselves are above the law, able to order executions for almost any reason, even able to commit murder themselves. Rarely, the Emperor will intervene with proper punishment.

Power, with the exception of Royal Blood, is often rated on wealth, social influence, and ancestry. This tends to make it difficult for your everyday commoner to get out of their status in society, and the actions of one person can occasionally affect their kin for generations. Naturally, this influences a sort of honor system that imperial citizens take very seriously. Citizens may even sell themselves into Imperial Slavery to pay off debts; a sort of indentured servitude. This makes Imperial Slavery entirely legal, and is the most controversial action to the Federation, among other things.

Laws are very lax, but 'house rules' often take place. Narcotics are entirely legal in most imperial space, but the abuse of it is looked down upon. Non-Imperial Slavery, such as war criminals, is completely illegal.

The Imperial Navy often consists of Eagles, Cutters, and Pythons. Its capital-class warships are classified as Majestic-Class Interdictors. It isn't nearly as aggressive in expansion like the Federation, due to the varied nature of senators. However, foreign aggression often results in a deliverance of a Majestic-Class Interdictor, as well as several platoons of the aforementioned ships.

The Federation - An often times corrupt Democratic government, it is the largest superpower out of the primary three. It's controlled by an elected president that is chosen every 6 Martian years. Its roots come from the ancient United States and NASA, formed in the early 2070s from the ashes of the Third World War. As a result, it also picked up the corrupt nature of American politicians, which continues to this day. Bribing, media propaganda, and rigged elections are commonplace. It is inherently for Capitalism as a result, with Communism being almost banned several times before.

Power often comes from the Media and pure money alone, whether or not you're a terrible person. Politicians and celebrities reign supreme, often making deals with media to further push agendas and ideologies. As a result, to maintain power, politicians encourage a sort of slave-wage, making debt a common occurrence. Even then, citizens can move freely between social statuses.

Laws are strict and enforced, the most common being Slavery, Cloning, and Narcotics.

The Federal Navy are practical, brutal war machines inside and out, consisting of modified versions of the VPX, Diamondback, Python, and Cruiser. Its Capital ships are manufactured by Central Dynamics and are classified as Capital-Class Destroyers

The Alliance - A united group of independent systems who wished to separate themselves from the corrupted Federation and the cruel Empire. It's the smallest but most diverse superpower in the primary three. It's controlled by an elected president from Alliance systems, with little to no corruption, at least apparently. It was formed after a Federal Raid of several systems under control of the 'Pachita Dragons' clan, involving two Capital-Class Destroyers and multiple platoons of Pythons and Cruisers.

Social class and power are practically nothing in the alliance. The alliance is purely there for protection and government support, allowing systems under their own bidding under the law. It really depends on the system the citizens are in that determines social structure.

Laws are present but come with a lot of compromises. Due to the cultural diversity of the systems, it takes a lot of effort to even pass laws. However, all of them agree to ban Slavery and most narcotics. Some cloning is permitted.

The Alliance Navy is also the most diverse, with no-one ship being required. It does, however, have a common trend of Eagles, Pythons, and Crusaders. There are no capital war ships under the alliance name, with the exception of Scientific Vessel, 'Oevasy'.

Powers

Zachary Roper - Leader of the Alliance, and controls most of his systems through social strength and expands through economic power. Whenever preparing for expansion or war, he invests his time into uniting systems on the frontier. He doesn't typically encourage combat and focuses more on uniting systems under a law that they can compromise on, but on the frontlines between the Empire and the Federation, combat is typically the only option. His Navy varies wildly, due to the congregation of systems contributing their own navy. Biggest Industry revolves around Military and Refinery.
"The Federation condemns the Empire for barbaric practices, yet, it ignores the slave-wage within its borders."

Nezha Rui - An independent power that controls most of his systems through economic power and expands using economic strength. Whenever preparing for expansion or war, he invests as much money as he can into advancing his navy into the frontier, also hiring mercenaries. He encourages trade of all kind, and to the higher-ups, even offers discounts on all kinds of hardware. He controls the most wealthy company in the bubble, Rutec, and this makes him the richest man in the bubble. He's just recently gotten into politics, but now, he's got a fair following. Biggest industry revolves around High-Tech and Refinery
"With enough data, we can predict almost anything. This is why we fund science."

Babushka Ivanov - An Imperial power that is a senator for the Empire. She controls most systems through covert operation and espionage, however, she expands using financial power. Whenever preparing for expansion or war, she often bribes and hires mercenaries to aggravate the enemy frontier as much as possible, before the actual conflict. She has strong financial and social connections, investing in infrastructure and civil rights. As a result, she is well respected within the Empire by most. Biggest industry revolves around Agriculture and Medicine.
"Those who treat their slaves improperly should expect the same. After all, how can slaves work properly without correct care?"

Anne Mary - The Imperial Princess. She controls systems through social strength and expands using economic and financial strength. Whenever she's preparing for conflict, she does her best to bring up social morale and call upon the help of the frontier systems and promises reparation. Most of her systems have banned hte use of narcotics and limit alcohol use, due to Anne's pass. Also, unlike most of the Empire, she doesn't support Imperial Slavery. Her biggest industries are Medicine and High-Tech.
"Ivanov is a terrible old woman. We have no beggars or starving people on our streets, yet she uses her slaves who work their fingers to the bone in the mine, suffering in silence!"

George Hudson - The President of the Federation. He both controls and expands using military force, whether it be defensive or offensive. He often prepares for expansion and conflict by militarizing as much as possible in a short span of time, making him an incredible threat when it comes to navy forces. George is considered a Republican in most ways of the word, having an incredible defense fund. At the same time, he believes in mass corporations and loyalty.
"Every citizen has the opportunity to work or serve."

Aksel Karlsson - An independent dictator and Ex-Admiral of the Federation. Aksel controls his system through secret operation, like propaganda and eliminating political opposition. Of course, this goes in line with his form of expansion, which often consists of violence and force. When in preparation, he utilizes spies and other forms of sabotage. He controls his civilization like a dictator, similar to perhaps Stalin in ancient years. He doesn't respect the Empire, but as an ex-Admiral, he isn't as negative towards the federation. Still, he deems both systems incapable of lasting. He still believes in hard work, and thinks of smuggling and piracy to be stealing from your state, and enacts strong punishments and security against doing so.
"To smuggle is to steal from your state and those within it."

Combat Path
It's the early days of human colonization of the Galaxy, the majority of human civilization keeping itself maintained in a bubble spanning in about a 100 light-year radius of Sol, the cradle of humanity. Of course, as a result, history repeats itself, but instead of the Wild West, it's Wild Space. Naturally, this means that there are several powers that are above the rest of humanity trying to take control of the bubble, there are pirates, and there's unending war. Whether it be through espionage, violence, pillaging, deception, and everything in between, space is almost entirely lawless.

This doesn't exclude you. You've been a pilot since you were the age it was legal to be one, starting up in a vehicle most pilots begin their career; the Ferrari Hawk, a cheap but reliable multi-purpose ship from an ancient manufacturer that most pilots start in. Your destiny has been up to you... Are you still in that reliable Hawk just because you like the way it feels, or you just don't have enough money for an upgrade? Did you want to be a mercenary-for-hire, or is this something you've only done because you're desperate? Are you a professional pilot, or are you still a rookie? Do you fight for the independent, rich leader Nezha Rui, or do you fight for the Senator of the Empire, Babushka Ivanov? Perhaps the Federal President, George Hudson? These are all questions you ask yourself, but yet, you know all of the answers.

Exploration Path
The entire galaxy is at the mercy of mankind. Despite having only colonized a small, 150 light-year radius bubble around Sol. Despite this, they have the technology to quite literally visit every single one of the 400 billion stars. The expansion is slow, but it's making a lot of progress. Humans have already colonized Barnard's Loop, the Pleiades Nebula, and the Coalsack Nebula. Not a lot of pilots wish to be pioneers, but the ones that do, they go out far. As of late, there have been unidentified atypical signals in strange parts of the galaxy, ranging from just 500 Lightyears from the bubble to as far as 60,000 Lightyears. There are also contractors out there, looking for explorers to find terraformable planets. Sometimes, explorers just go out to explore for science, occasionally boarding Megaships to travel to previously unreachable sectors.

Here you are now, at the edge of the bubble. Elder's Gateway, Elder's Lighthouse. A space station orbiting a Class IV Gas Giant of a White Dwarf, and the current frontier of human expansion. Looking at your future as an explorer. A pioneer? Money? Scientist? Naturally, this is up to you.

Bumping, updates to the Lore and Exploration path are available. This makes the RP itself much easier to play up front without a lot of initial planning.
