BRIEF HISTORY​

Evangeline is a twenty-eight year old aspiring model turned preschool teacher from Birmingham, Alabama. She spent the first eleven years of her life as an only child until her sister, Naomi, was born. It was love at first sight for the pair, and due to a particularly crippling bout of depression that left their mother unable to properly care for her children (namely her youngest daughter), Evangeline spent the majority of her formative years stepping in as Naomi's primary caregiver; this became especially true four years later when her brother, Joseph, was born.

Evangeline moved away from home when she was twenty-three to pursue a full-time career in modeling. She had a fair deal of success in the industry, but after only three years decided to re-enroll in school and pursue a career that she found to be more emotionally rewarding. Born in Guayama, Puerto Rico to Luciana and the now-late Matías De La Fuente, Carmen spent the first six years of her life on the sunny, culturally-rich beaches of her homeland. She was only five years old when her father was killed in a work-related accident; with little family to turn to for financial assistance and stable jobs increasingly difficult to come by on the island, the girl's mother made the difficult decision to abandon their homeland and emigrate to the United States for work. Luciana was able to afford a small, two-bedroom house in Virginia with the money that she'd recieved from Matías' life insurance policy, working odd jobs and long hours to keep up with the monthly mortgage payments.

After spending two years floating from job to job following high school, Carmen enrolled in the police academy. Jaida grew up in a largely non-traditional household. Born to an African American mother and a German immigrant father, she was raised alongside her older brother and only sibling, Deandre, who is eight years her senior. She grew up bilingual, speaking both German and English at home with a loving but strict, highly-religious mother and a free-spirited father. She had a fairly normal childhood, despite the seemingly ever-raising crime rate in mid-nineties Washington D.C. that kept her cooped up indoors most of the time; she made most of her earliest memories at her grandmother's house where her love for baking was sparked. She often put on elaborate performances for her parents and brother. Donned in a small white apron and a chef's hat, she'd pretended to run a child-sized bakery out of her grandmother's kitchen where she'd serve them plastic treats on tiny tea plates; this eventually evolved into her grandmother teaching her the basics of baking and allowing her to come up with her own wild creations.

Supportive and encouraging of their daughter's dream that persisted well into her high school years, Jaida's parents managed to scrounge up enough money to enroll her in in a culinary school for the arts where she'd attempt to get her bachelor's degree in baking and pastry.

She was a year into her study when she met a man named Dominic who would serve as her on-again-off-again boyfriend for the better part of her early twenties. The pair hit it off instantly and within weeks of meeting considered themselves an established couple. Riding the high of their honeymoon phase, they'd been together a little under a year when they received the news that would turn their young lives upside down... Jaida was pregnant.

Far too young and unprepared to even consider entertaining the idea of raising a child, Jaida - with Dominic's unyielding support - made the decision to terminate the pregnancy. Returning home to seek out the support of her mother during what would undoubtedly be the most difficult period of her life, she was made abruptly aware of her disapproval for the decision that she'd made. Her mother urged her to change her mind, ushering her from clinic to clinic where the doctors urged her to fall in line with their pro-life rhetoric by reminding her of the life that she carried inside of her and of the potential that she'd be responsible for snuffing out if she made the choice to end the pregnancy.

Her mother's attempts proved fruitless and did little more than delay her decision by an agonizing two months, putting her at a little over thirteen weeks when she returned to Dominic and the two of them went to the clinic together.

She dropped out of college completely not long thereafter, struggling to juggle the pressure of attending a prestigious school while coping with the emotional and mental strain that her decision had imposed on her. Unwilling to return home and face her parents in the wake of yet another disappointment in the form of a nearly thirty thousand dollar investment that was lost upon her dropping out of school, Jaida roomed with Dominic for a short time, though they found their relationship gradually beginning to crumble under the weight of the decision that they'd made together.

Feeling cornered and struggling to cope, Jaida moved out less than a year later and bounced around the city on her own for a while in an attempt at running away from her problems (an accusation that she would vehemently deny). She eventually ventured further out and ultimately fell in love with the freedom and anonymity that came along with traveling, the people she met, and the unexpected connections that she made with them along the way.

Burying her guilt under the guise of a carefree lifestyle, Jaida is something of a drifter, preferring the freedom of being able to move as she pleases or as is necessary rather than remaining tethered down to one specific place for any extended period of time. She's approached committed relationships with a degree of hesitancy since her breakup with Dominic, preferring to explore the short-lived and often passionate connections she's able to make with people along the way and subsequently breaking ties before things can get too serious.

She makes friends wherever she goes and, due to her disdain for an average lifestyle (ie: a fixed living space), rooms with the friends who she makes along the way, working odd jobs here and there to provide for herself and pay back those who offer her a roof to sleep under.

She maintains limited contact with her parents and older brother (namely, her mother, with her presence drudging up a fair deal of painful memories).
