So! I haven't done horror in a while and it used to be my specialty, so I figured why not dive back into it? This RP is going to be very character-based with some plot thrown in. There'll be secrets and death probably. I won't reveal much, bc that'll ruin the fun. I have a few rules regarding the RP.
001. There are no reservations except for people I've discussed the plot thoroughly with.
002. Only one character per applicant, though you can apply for several in hopes that you'll get one.
003. This will be rather detailed, though not overly so.
004. Gotta be able to be tight-lipped and not spill things I specifically tell you.
That's it! Hope you're interested (:

Arbington is a small town in the middle of nowhere Wisconsin with a population that's less than 1,000. The main export has to do with farming materials and such, though deeper into the heart of the town there are several businesses that are rather popular and bring in revenue and tourists. Everybody knows everybody and everybody knows everybody's business. Everybody also knows about the legend that's haunted this town for years.
It's no surprise that when a group of teenagers are able, they leave during their spring break. They set off on an adventure and end up at a motel, three rooms shared by the eight of them. They spend the night getting absolutely wasted, dancing to music that's playing from their phones, laughing and drinking illegally in a way that they know their parents would disapprove of. But, that's the whole point isn't it?
Late into the hours of the night they run out of alcohol and all decide to walk to the nearest liquor store, sporting their fake IDs and boisterous, drunken attitudes. They pile into the store and search around for what they'd like, handfuls of change and cash in their hands. When they've finally decided on what they want, they approach the cashier, who looks strange.
He's ghastly pale and the dip in his cheeks unnaturally deep, as if he's some sort of character straight out of a Tim Burton movie. Too drunk to notice, they pay for what they've got and an odd sound echoes through the store. Only one of them notices --- the only one who's currently sober --- and nervously they try to hurry up the process of paying, but they're waved off.
The cashier murmurs an apology and then their worlds go black, the night of fun quickly receding and being replaced by one that's filled with nothing but horror. They all wake up, hungover, cold and in the dark. They're confused and have no idea where they are or what's going on. One of them stumbles around until they find a light-switch and when the dim lightbulbs flicker on, there's a note in the center of the room.
'Liars never prosper and now, you're being punished for your lies. There is one among you who directly lead to this. But, none of you is innocent. This is a game. You must figure out who's the wolf in sheep's clothing. Discover secrets. Find the liar. You're freed.'

» Roles
» the blackhole
: everybody knows this individual to be incredibly destructive, both inwards and outwards. they grew up in a broken home and that molded their attitudes toward life, them growing more bitter as the years went on and on. they seek fun in ways that will make themselves feel alive, some sort of feeling other than their grief and hatred towards the world and all of it's inhabitants. however, despite their inner turmoil and anger, they have a relatively suave facade. has off and on relations with the minx. best friends with the minefield. (male/non-binary)» the minx
: likely the craftiest of all the members in the group, she's incredibly good at getting what she wants in a way that everybody deems as innocent and fair. however, more often than not, her intentions are sinister and selfish. while she sports a pretty face, her insides are rotten and coiled and all things bad. getting involved too deep with this individual could end in heartbreak/tragedy. calls the blackhole up when she's feeling lonely, but has never promised them anything more. used to be close with the phoenix, but they've grown apart since her parents' death. thinks the chameleon is great fun and would consider getting closer to her. (female)» the minefield
: an individual that can be touchy and explode at any moment, whether instigated or not. he tends to speak without thinking and he doesn't worry about consequences, unless it concerns himself and his feelings. his temper is out of control and he's been going to counseling for his anger issues since he was young. he doesn't seem to have helped. he's in a long-term relationship with the marionette, which many others view as odd. best friends with the blackhole. does not like the chameleon as she broke his heart with her lies. (male)» the marionette
: he's easily controlled, like a puppet on strings. he very rarely, if at all, stands up for himself and are more than willing to push aside his own wants and feelings in order to please somebody else. he's soft-spoken and incredibly easy to manipulate due to his gullible personality. his intentions are always pure and for the greater good. in a long-term relationship with the minefield. surprisingly good friends with the minx, though most suspect it's for her own gain and not his. (male) (reserved)» the paracosmist
: the optimist and idealist in the group. she has a tendency to daydream to the point of forgetting where she is and who she's with. she always has something positive to say, always capable of finding a silver lining. she bears a childish innocence that's enraging to some and refreshing to others. it is fairly difficult to get her back down to earth, as she prefer to be stuck up in the clouds. has a crush on the blackhole but is terrified of the minx so she's never made any advances. (female)» the phoenix
: she experienced a tragedy unlike any other less than a year ago, when both of her parents died in a car accident. unsurprisingly, she took quite a long time to grieve, but since then has rebounded with great force and determination. she's incredibly kind and perceptive when it comes to suffering. she's very much so a natural-born leader and has taken all of the other's under her wing, as if she's becoming the parents she lost. the minx's inability to change and grow up has caused the phoenix to distance herself. the chameleon irritates the phoenix, but she feels some sort of responsibility for her. (female) (reserved)» the chameleon
: a liar simply out of habit and a life-style that required it, she is very adaptable and her opinions/views and personality tend to change depending on the person/people she is with. while dishonest, she is not malicious in her intentions and mostly does it in order to fit in. most of her younger life, she was a social pariah and she never wants to experience that again. dislikes the paracosmist and the marionette due to their naivety. gets along rather well with the blackhole and the minx. an ex-girlfriend of the minefield. (female)» the neophyte
: a newcomer to the long-lasting group, but not unwelcome in the slightest. they're incredibly accepting, due to the fact that they don't necessarily know everybody well, and that's given them a easier way to get integrated further into the group. younger brother of the minx and the youngest in the group, he sometimes feels slightly out of place due to all the history among the others. especially likes the chameleon and the phoenix. (male)
