Like a gap year, which an example of is when a student graduates say Highschool and waits a year to go attend college. Part of the idea can be go out to the world, figure a little bit out before you commit to your further studies.

It seems to me that maybe some things can be overlooked in that regard. It reads as though graduating does not make you a Wave Crasher, and that gap periods are common. Maybe rather than arbitrarily forcing everyone to attend the tournament and graduate, perhaps laissez faire is the best policy...
