Talking about variables-- the handouts occurred b/c a Democrat from Texas (LBJ) decided we were so prosperous that we could fix the poor with Welfare programs. Not sure that would happen in the proposed timeline.
For the South to have won, we'd probably need General Jackson to have lived...
I wanted to add another anecdote: Since those are less likely to be read in books, I like them in forum posts :-)
In our current D&D game, my buddy (Matt, same one as before) is running it and we have gotten to level 6 (so more than a few plays). He calls me up to discuss one player-- not a...
You have some great advice already, and forgive me if I restate things in Grey's links, as I'm in a hurry to get back to work. My favorite of what's been mentioned is "play lots of games", I'd add to that "with various other game masters". I've played with more than a few GM's that thought...
Hey-- I'd love to, but ... :'(
I honestly don't have the time. I have a D&D game group twice a month, a boardgame group every Thursday, a 4 year old daughter, and a wife is has a busy schedule with travel. Oh, and I just lost my new Jr. Automation Engineer (or will Friday), so work is...
@DarkLightHitomi, it's a lost cause. He's not responding b/c of tone, it is b/c of one of two things, and at this point I don't know which is more likely: he either is not here to engage in critical thinking, b/c he is unwilling to concede on any point that would make him restate his position...
I'll ignore the demand of an apology, due to the passive-aggressive insults you returned, and consider us even. However, even though I remain suspicious, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and keep my post constructive. I hope in return, you take heed to the points and address them...
I felt like returning to this bombastic essay. First, if this is supposed to be as in depth as it pretends to be, you've forgotten to define your scope: game mastering PBP/PBE, is different from GM'ing at a table, and different again from GM'ing at a LARP. Perhaps these roles are so different...
Greetings, first week rpnation user, long time gamer and gaming convention goer. I used to only be big in RPG's, but over the last 2 years I've really been taken with modern board games. Oh, I also love Unix (and the lesser... Linux) :-P

I disagree. I'm a student of game design-- rpg and board, and I could have said as much in an easier to digest form. Though, I avoid philosophy for practical theory. As it's a game design (practice), not a game philosophy that I care to study. All that aside, there are certain points in your...
