you can never be sure because some people will stick to a role play and others bounce off. i compensate for this by allowing more people to join my group rps, accounting for some leaving or ghosting.

Only if it serves the current story/RP. Not if it's just "Barbie on a Battleship" and then "Barbie in the first crusades" and "Barbie in the space voyage" -- there has to be some continuity for the character/entity/faction to be making a reappearance.

I think the best way to start an RP is with a kick-ass Interest check that gets everyone excited for the game. Have stuff planned, but leave plenty of room for player agency. Good luck!
