    That's when you might hear something. Ganzfeld effect, they call it; reproducible in laboratory conditions last anyone checked. Some theories have it that microstructures in the brain are capable of quantum interactions, so when you make everything really quiet, when you can blot out enough distracting sensory input, you can hear what a person is feeling. Hearing isn't the right word, maybe, and it's not mind-reading; just the echo of an emotional response, too intrinsic to manipulate or hide.
