“Ack!..... DAMNIT!....... sunavaBITCH!” A young, black hair, blue eyed man slowly inched by his way up a set of stairs. Having just returned to his apartment after a long workout at the local gym, Kaizo Mishima was experiencing the unfortunate consequences of the ever dreaded and constantly memed leg day. Gripping the assist handle, Kaizo grunted with ever step he took up the stairs spouting curses and all sorts of other vulgarity. Not that it mattered, after all when in the comfort of your own home who’s gonna care? Eventually, the dark haired boy reached the top of the stairwell and began waddling his way down the hall past his bathroom and into the singular bedroom in the small apartment.

Stripping off the majority of his workout clothes, Kaizo grabbed a towel from his cupboard and retraced back to the bathroom where he took a brisk shower. After all he had something important at to take care of, something he’d been waiting several months for. Once he was dried off and dressed in some comfortable clothes, Kaizo turned his attention back to the dual monitor computer on his desk which featured a wallpaper of his favorite Street Fighter character Akuma. On the desk next to it sat his custom made and previously pre ordered Reiki Gear System. It had a sleek red polish with a grey subcolor to make for a badass looking rig. It was currently downloading his once again pre ordered version of Jigoku Fūkei Online. One fifteen minutes remained before the system went live and he wanted to be one of the first to play it. While he was currently attending college, it was his off track meaning he wouldn’t have classes for the rest of the Summer. Besides working out, he never had much to do so Kaizo would spend a majority of his time dedicating himself to the game.

A lot of money had gone into purchasing both his custom RGS and his copy of JFO, but fortunately he had previously won a Street Fighter VII fighting game tournament to which he received a 10,000 Euro prize. While most of it went toward paying off some of his debt, he used a good 30% blowing it off on his custom made system for no reason other than he hated color scheme of the systems. No offense to Gouki Reiki. Schedule free, responsibilities taken care of, and download complete. Kaizo was ready to waste the rest of his day on the game. Adjusting everything to a comfortable setup, Kaizo lied down in his bed and slid the visor over his eyes. Taking one more deep breath, the man grinned to himself before activating the terminal. “Link Start!”

As he was pulled away from reality, Kaizo felt himself manifest in an eternal whitesoace followed by a menu popping up requesting he input a username that would serve for his avatar for the rest of his gaming experience. He figured it best not to change things up and went about his old method of taking the first four letters of his name and reversing the order. User Accepted, Welcome Ziak. Please design an avatar, choose a class, weapon, and a magic element. These are important to gameplay, so choose wisely as they cannot be changed later.

Unlike most users on the RGS, Kaizo made his avatar look almost exactly like him barring a few differences. This was because on the chance that he met someone IRL from the game, he didn’t want to be completely unrecognizable. While this is quite impractical, most of Kaizos good friends were met over video games so it’s for the best. Now the changes he made to his character we’re replacing his cold and almost empty blue eyes with a set of piercing Crimson iris’ that almost seemed to glow. Next he changed his jet black hair to have dirty blonde streaks in it. Lastly, is the mroe confusing one. Unlike what most male players do, Kaizo actually toned down the muscular scale on his character. So instead of looking 6’ and 195 lbs, it as more 135-140 lbs. There isn’t any specific reason for this other than Kaizo doesn’t feel like he needs to impress anyone on this place. Because when in the RGS space size doesn’t matter.

Once he was satisfied with his characters looks, Kaizo accepted the changes and moved on to the class and magic selection. As the six classes aligned themselves in front of Kaizo, he couldn’t help but be awed at how intricate and amazing each class was on their own. But one class for sure stood out to him and that was the Ronin class. Upon touching the figure that had Kaizos avatar dressed in a lighter form of plated armor, it was on to the weapons. Not even thinking about it, the young man chose dual blades because two was better than one. An array of dual blade sets appeared and Kaizo swipes through before finding a pair that suited him perfectly. They were dubbed the Blades of Destruction, which sounded cool and all but they were just like every other weapon save for their design.

Lastly was the choice of Magic, and Kaizo of course chose the element of fire. Purely because it fit his style of play in games like this, and as a plus there was rumors of Magic Skills that would be as references to Akuma.

Once everything was accepted and entered, the game took a second to load before text appeared on the screen. Welcome Ronin Ziak, you will now be transported to Floor 0 for Tutorial with your team. What the hell? Team? I never knew the gameplay would be centered around group work. Of course after some contemplation Kaizo realized that the classes on their own were sort of useless. I’m fine with this, but if I get paired with a bunch of uncooperative assholes then I’m applying for a reassignment. As the black, empty, and half loaded pixel world came into view before him. Kaizo began his first stages in becoming Ziak. Looking around, there was hundreds upon thousands of other characters loading in and looking as Starr struck as he was. This place was amazing! They weren’t even in an actual area and the background still felt so real and alive! This truly was Goki Reiki’s greatest accomplishment yet. Upon close inspection to floor 0, invisible walls could just barely be made of between all of the groups of people. Kaizo himself was sectioned off in an empty space with no other players to be seen. A small icon in the corner of his vision read Loading Teammates...

“Well, guess there’s nothing left to do but sit here and wait.“

The door opened and a soothing, yet robotic, male voice was heard throughout the mansion. "Welcome home, Miss Chan.", it said and on Yuki´s face, a small smile formed. She put down her bag and took of her shoes at the door step. "Miles, you are the best idea i ever had. I dont regret promoting the programmers that helped me.", she replied to nobody in particular, but the AI that was all around. "Miles lock my doors please.", she continued and headed to her bedroom. A click was heard and she smiled satisfiedly.

She had just returned from work and now had changed into something more comfortable. The shirt and pants she wore to work looked god on her, sure, they made her look important, which she was, but they were not comfortable. She changed to a loose fitting tshirt that went to her knees and sweatpants. Those felt way better. "Miles, start up the Reiki Gear System.", she said as she then walked through her hallway. Time to see what the competitors had thrown on the market. She respected Gouki Reiki, their products were oftenly good. The Chan Gaming company, a sub branch of Chan International Enterprises, obviously made better consoles and games, but she was a little biased there, she knew that. The two companies were head to head in competition, from a neutral point of view.

WHen reaching the gaming room, she nodded to herself. She was going to enjoy this a lot. She loved RPGs and she loved VR. This game would probably bring her a lot of fun. Once she was connected to everything needed, she started up the game. It required her to select a nickname. ANd she already knew it. It was the one she had used when she had first started online gaming, in middle school. She already stood out among her class mates, she was bullied, but she knew what she could always come back to.

User Accepted, Welcome Science4Life. Please design an avatar, choose a class, weapon, and a magic element. These are important to gameplay, so choose wisely as they cannot be changed later. Yuki knew how her avatar was going to look already. Just like her, with the little addition of black cat ears. One could question the fact a woman her age would give herself cat ears. But Yuki didn´t care at all.

Next came the class and magic selection. That was over before it started. Yuki knew, she would play the ninja. She already had that predetermined. She always went with rogue like classes, they simply were the most fun to her. For magic, she quickly chose shadow. Not because she was into being an edgelord shadow mage. It was simply that she found it the most suitable for a ninja. Since ninjas were supposed to be shadow warriors, after all. She quickly chose an outfit, named the "Shinobi", that covered her face and also hit her cat ears. Those were not for others to see anyways. More of a personal memory.

Confirming these choices, she headed to the weapon selection. Shortswords, daggers throwing knives. They seemed so standard. Something so predictable. The game still managed to surprise her however. Kusarigama. The perfect mixture of range and melee, attack and defense. Yuki had always loved these traditional weapons. She selected them as weapon class and then searched for some that suited her visually. She had quickly found them. "Reminiscence of the Past" was their name.

Welcome Ninja Science4Life, you will now be transported to Floor 0 for Tutorial with your team. An auto assigned team. Interesting choice, but understandable. The classes were made to compliment each other, solo playing was not intended, obviously. Therefore, automatching people for the tutorial to clarify the importance of a team was a good idea. She would note that for future reference. As she loaded in, she saw the areas that cut players of those that they were not teamed with. Soon, the masked woman found herself all set. One more player. With a traditional, respectful bow, Yuki greeted her new teammate. "Hajimemashite.", she said in accent-free japanese. She spoke both, english and japanese, fluently and accent free.

Two people stood at the bus stop, an above average looking female and a male that could only be described as beautiful prince. The girl had a short brown bob and had pretty green eyes. The male had an almost androgynous look to him but was clearly a guy. He had long black hair tied into a low ponytail with cool grey eyes.

“W-will you go out with me?” The girl stammered, her hands clenching the hem of her dress. The princely male smiled gently giving the girl hope that her spontaneous confession would work out. Her hopes were quickly dashed when he spoke his next words.

“I am truly elated at your heartfelt words but I mustn’t get into a relationship. I have focus on my studies, I do hope you understand.” The princely male responded in a kind, gentle tone. But as he was saying those kind words he was secretly thinking, “Tch. I don’t have time to deal with clingy women when my pre-ordered Reiki Gear System that comes with a free copy of Jigoku Fūkei Online is due to arrive today. I already have to deal with those damn fangirls everyday at my university I refuse to deal with them in my leisure time.”

The girl smiled tearfully and nodded,” I understand. It really was too spontaneous. He He. I’m really sorry for taking up your time, Vincent.” The girl bowed and quickly ran off wiping tears of her face as she ran. As soon as she left the Vincent’s kind smile melted into a scowl. He really didn’t understand why those idiotic girls constantly kept nagging him but he was getting pretty tired of it. He already has to deal with his parents controlling every action his does, he doesn’t need to add another person to join his parents in their nit-picking. Vincent’s train of thought broke when the bus arrived, through force of habit, he immediately started smiling kindly at everyone on the bus. He quickly made his way home and grabbed the package on the doorsteps of his house. Grabbing the box cutter, he tears open the package. A Reiki Gear System and a copy of Jigoku Fūkei Online were in the box. Vincent smiled excitedly, he couldn’t wait to try out the new game. Vincent needed a new MMO since he already totally completed his previous one with setting new records for raids, PvP, and speed-runs. He had gotten this free when someone dared him to play an infamously difficult game with no deaths and no levelling. The fool bet the Reiki Gear and the game that he wouldn’t be able to do it. Vincent proved him wrong and showed him exactly why you shouldn’t bet against a challenge runner with a challenge. He quickly set up the Reiki Gear System because he has only a few hours before his annoying parents were coming to check up on him. They literally check up on him everyday, he hoped moving out would at least curb some of their nosy habits. Apparently, only the sun exploding will save him from their clutches. Putting the headset on he sat there in silence for a couple seconds, he hated the fact that he has to vocally connect to the VR set.

Begrudgingly he utters,” Link Start.”

Vincent soon finds himself in a white void with a menu asking for his username. He quickly put in his usual username for MMOs, Edgar Allen Pwn. He doesn’t care if he’s making a female character, he’ll always use that name.

User Accepted, Welcome Edgar Allen Pwn. Please design an avatar, choose a class, weapon, and a magic element. These are important to gameplay, so choose wisely as they cannot be changed later.

Vincent thought about what he wanted to look like before choosing a female character. He might as well, games are meant for you to be able to do things you can’t do in real life. It’s not like he can have the excuse of just wanting to look at a chick’s ass for hours on end instead of a male one since the game is first person. Though he’s definitely not going to do that weird thing where guys immediately start gold digging online with a female character. Choosing cyan hair and eyes with long hair, he starts working on the face. He carefully alters the minute details to give the character a regal look. He sets the body to have a lithe gymnast build with a medium bust size, by the end of it, approximately 1.5 hours later, he looked like a stoic warrior queen. Now for class, weapon and element. Mentally doing eeny meeny miny mo for class and element, he settles on a light sorcerer. After choosing this class he starts to decide on an outfit. He shifts through a lot of slutty outfits before finding something that looked like it wasn’t worn in the bedroom and bonus: it look like it could be for both genders. Vincent then started looking over his options for a weapon. Staff. Staff. Staff. Staff. Staff...a lot of scrolling later, he finally stumbles in something that wasn’t a staff. A book? Fine then, at least it’s not a staff or something silly like a wand. “Hmm..’heaven’s scripture’? I guess that would go with my light element.”

Finally he hits complete on his character.

Welcome Sorcerer Edgar Allen Pwn, you will now be transported to Floor 0 for Tutorial with your team.

Vincent felt aggravated, he was hoping to avoid having to deal with other people in his early levelling stages. He knows that this game was teamwork based but he still was determined to try to solo everything, at least until he has to do endgame content. He then appears on floor 0 with two others in their own small section of the floor. He was amazed at seeing everything in such high graphics, it really was almost like real life. Though it was kinda eerie after processing it for a bit, he couldn’t hear the thousands of other players in the room. Something like this wouldn’t be weird on a screen but in VR...it was like they were in separate dimensions, only being able to see the images of each other, sectioned off with invisible walls. Cutting off his own line of thought he turns towards the two other party members.

“Hi.” He says, falling silent when a female voice comes out of his mouth. The voice was cold but elegant, at least it fits his character theme. Having nothing else to say, Vincent now known as Edgar, turned away from his teammates and got lost in thought as he observed the thousands of people arriving. “Sorcerer, huh. It’s great for DPS and kiting, not bad for randomly choosing it. I’d cry if I accidentally chose healer.” Edgar continued to passively observe the many other players as he waited for the rest of the party to arrive.

A man walks down the neon lit streets of Shanghai, China. He hums an unfamiliar tune to anyone around him. With a sort of grace in his step he weaves his way through the crowded walkways lost in thought. "So tonight is the night is it? Jigoku Fūkei Online will finally be playable. I wonder what I should play as this time?" This man was Kuo Dashi. Even with the bright lights, beautiful women, and even more beautiful scenery that surrounds him, Kuo has found life rather droll. He has worked at the same company for the last eight years of his life. Gaming was his only means of true enjoyment anymore.

As he rounded the corner he came into view of his apartment building. It was a little out of the way and even for his salary it was a tad expensive, but you couldn't beat waking up in the morning to the picturesque view of the river reflecting the sun rise. A few neighbors greet him as he made his way to his apartment on the 5th floor. "I should have chosen a lower level apartment. This is torture after a long day at the office." He thought. He opened the door to his apartment without delay before making sure he locked it behind him. "Ah finally home. Now the fun can really begin."

Undoing his suit and tie he walks into the kitchen to make himself a quick meal. After eating his dinner for the night he changed into more comfortable clothes. He looked over at his desk and stared at his Reiki Gear System that he had bought recently. He had won it during one of the office raffles that was going on. He didn't think he would actually win anything since he placed his name in the box without much thought as to why he was doing it. But it all worked out in the end. Not to mention it came with a free copy of JFO so who was he to complain. "Well, let's not keep them waiting any longer." He picked up the VR system and gave it a quick look over. "Everything seems to be in order. I haven't touched this thing at all since I won it. Now where did I put that manual?"

Kuo scrounged around his room for a few minutes before he finally found the instruction manual for how to use the Reiki Gear System. "Now let's see here. First I place it on my head... Who'd have thought! Next I lay down on something comfortable like a bed. Hmm, so I won't be moving much around physically? How fascinating. Finally to turn on the system say Link Start and the system will boot up. Simple enough. Lets get to playing shall we?" Kuo did as instructed. He placed the VR device over his eyes and laid down on his bed. He made sure he was comfortable as possible shifting ever so slightly until he got used to the new headgear. With a deep breath and a chipper tune he initialized the system. "Link Start."

The screen went black and for a moment Kuo thought he had went blind. Then suddenly a menu appeared in front of him. It asked for a username. He already had one in mind. Cloudy Heavens. It sounded way cooler when spoken in Mandarin Chinese but the English translation was equally good. It was a name he used quite frequently in other online games so it only made sense.

User Accepted, Welcome Cloudy Heavens. Please design an avatar, choose a class, weapon, and a magic element. These are important to gameplay, so choose wisely as they cannot be changed later.

Kuo was enraptured with the level of detail control for just building an avatar. He decided he wanted to make a bit more of a handsome version of himself. He chose long raven hair tied up in a thin ponytail. His eyes would be green with a hint of amber. He didn't know how well he would feel being a bulky man so he decided to use his actual body as a reference and gave it a leaner, more athletic build. Next he had to choose a class. "What looks the most fun?" He thought as he scrolled through the six classes. He stopped and stared at the healer default outfit as he was deciding. "Well that looks rather comfortable doesn't it? I'll go with that one." With his class selected he then had to choose a weapon to wield. As a spellcaster his options were rather limited. It was mostly staves and wands with a few rather shoddy looking books. But he did find one that caught his attention. "You'll do quite nicely." It was a staff with a rather unique design and color palette. It was like looking into the sky. The staff was called Heavenly Axis. Next, Kuo had to select his element. Given his name, class, and motif, he thought about taking up the light element. But he didn't like being type casted as a 'holy healer'. He liked the idea he had for selecting Wind as his element of choice. He enjoyed freedom and being able to do as he pleased. The element that personified that was none other than wind. Finally his favorite part, clothing. Healers wore robes, but even they had some sense of style if you chose the right ones. He skimmed through many monk looking outfits and clergymen robes. He finally settled on robes that made him look like a Chinese sorcerer. It had long flowing sleeves and dragged slightly behind him giving him that regal sense without being overbearing. It even had a hood to provide that aura of mystique he was going for. Once done he submit.

Welcome Cloudy Heavens, you will now be transported to Floor 0 for Tutorial with your team.

Kuo didn't mind that he would have to be teamed up with others just as the game started. It just meant he didn't have to go and find a PUG later on if they were entertaining individuals. he felt his consciousness pulled as the world around light up and he was suddenly surrounded by millions of players. He felt like a kid in an amusement park, Everything was so... real. He looked down at his hands and moved his robes to and fro. He let out a chuckle as he indulged himself in this new world. He glanced over and saw three others standing around him. This must be the team the prompt mentioned. "Ni hao." He sang as he continued to swing his arms back and forth to watch his robes dance in the air.
