Unova; Wishing Well

The very center of Castelia City was bustling with business. From every corner of the street, trainers could be seen rushing forward and maybe even sometimes pushing other people out of the way to get to the grand fountain that was nestled in the middle of it all. A Gothita was standing still, watching with a curious gaze as the panicking citizens toss some gold coins into the clear water. The Pokémon's owner, a fellow pastry shop owner nearby that was taking her chance at the population boom by selling some Casteliacones, had called back the psychic-type creature.

"Gothi~ Gothi~!"

Each step led to a small pleased sound emanating from the humanoid figure as it joined back with her own trainer. Mrs. Ferrars, the woman who was putting out the creamed deserts, let out a sigh. "Even if Unova is hosting such a big competition, getting this many people riled up over it wouldn't be a good idea. There's a high chance the squad in charge will shorten the amount of competitors, similarly to what happened to our last game. At least this one will still just be as enjoyable, right?" She held Gothita's pointed limb, making it act as a hand, and giving it a slight squeeze. Her Pokemon responded with the same old thing-but in a different tone which resembled agreement.

Above and away from Castelia City, with the picture zooming in on the great mountain; Mount Obscura, an even bigger crowd lurked at the base. Most of these people were here to watch and cheer on children, relatives, friends, or just in general someone they knew. Banners were held up, caution tape and border markings preventing trespassers from overstepping boundaries. There were 2 flags, one black and the other white, held up. It was the showing where the contestants should wait, before being escorted around the mountain to start their hike.

But even through all the cheers and waiting, just the single flap of wings in the air made the fanned out people yelp and back away. A Charizard was making it's way to the field...and oddly enough two people were on it. One was probably the trainer, the other? A person contributing to the competition perhaps. Except, the pair who was riding the fire type Pokémon were anything but getting along. The boy had jumped off, and the girl seemed glad that he did so-as if she was going to push him off if he didn't do it as quick. Once he was off, she was back into the air, and the crowd was left to whisper to themselves of what happened.

For the rest of the competitors...well, they're getting there.

Out For Revenge!
Why make me get such an attention seeking entrance...?

Hypnos had been the one arriving alongside a Charizard and Vanna, the irresistibly annoying girl who had offered to take him to Mount Obscura. He had only bothered to accept, because then he'd get a free treat, free ride, and quicker passage without being late. He didn't know he'd honestly regret it. The red headed girl left, only a hand waving him a quick goodbye. Even her mother could have a bit more of politeness. Though, he supposed it was expected. He wasn't so pent up about manners either, but that didn't mean he rubbed his personality on his lass.

From where he stood, he could still be able to weave himself through the clumped up people that had once again scrunched back up to worsen his chance of getting by. Hypnos had no idea who else would be accepted in this 'little' challenge, but he did know that those trainer would get a letter at the last second. Some people around here didn't even if they were on the list or not, so the whole ordeal wasn't so organized. Yet, after some time of making himself adjust to the fact everyone was stubborn no matter which way he looked, he positioned himself on the flat podium stand where two flags were propped up. There were a few others-a small number meaning a lot of people declined.

Hypnos wearily looked around. Not a single one of the faces he saw were at all familiar. Nor did any have the same shade of hair as the boy from his childhood. No platinum blonde hair, no red eyes. None of it. He sighed, shoulders dropping slightly. The whole point of coming here was having some hope of seeing him somewhere, but he didn't seem like he was. There wasn't even the slightest chance he'd be watching, but Hypnos just became this hopeful. At least there were good enough rewards for entering the Mountain Climbing Competition. A medal for the winner(s), and a load of Poke-dollars anyone could ask for. It wasn't like he needed it, but...who didn't want it?

Tell had been to Caselia City before, however Mount Obscura had never been one of the places Tell has frequented, him and Zelno had opted to fly on top of his Noivern or Vell as they call him, but they had opted to land three miles away from the event location in favor of walking on foot in order to not draw too much attention to themselves. Tell had his Satchel and backpack equipped onto him while Zelno had his own smaller backpack that Tell had helped pack and put on him. Their hike towards the location was pretty simple, walking long distances was nothing new to either of them, when they had arrived at the event location a large crowd had come into view. Before anyone could take notice of them though, Zelno had decided to take on the appearance one of the figures they saw zoom by them, already planning to cause mischief. Tell wasn't going to stop them of course but he wanted to arrive at their destination first so that Zelno knew where to link up for once the competition started.

As they made their way over to the Podiums Zelno had opted to stealthily swipe a few berries from targets that seemed like easy pickings, of course Tell wasn't all that worried about it they had done it many times before and if they got caught, Zelno knew the drill. Luckily they were good enough that even if someone noticed that they snagged berries from them, they would be gone before they could even try to catch up to them. Tell however didn't partake in stealing himself, not this time atleast, as he was more focused on the competition than the participation of one of his past times and as they made their way to the podium Zelno stood by their side on the podium the person that they had copied from before changed as they took on a new appearance when they figured nobody was paying much attention.

Tell gave Zelno a nod of approval making them skip on over away from them in favor of partaking in some mischief, though Zelno knew that Tell didn't want them to go far and would keep a eye on them from a distance until the announcements came and the competition was about to start. Meanwhile while Tell didn't directly watch Zelno skimp off on their mischievous adventure they made sure to keep them in their peripheral vision as they went on their quest.

Penny
was not one for theatrics. One, she preferred not drawing too much attention to herself as she found it too embarrassing. And two, she couldn't afford such a dramatic entrance in the first place—especially as a broke university student whose family wasn't in the best financial situation at the moment. So, she opted for her usual method of transportation to get to big cities like Castelia: the subway.

Thankfully it wasn't a long or boring ride from Nimbasa City to her destination, especially since she spent most of her time with her nose in a copy of Pokemon Researchers Monthly. She couldn't help it after all, not when there was a section dedicated to a recent interview with Professor Elm himself! Alas, she wasn't able to finish reading it as she heard the conductor announce that they were arriving to Castelia City, and in a panicked frenzy, she left her magazine behind.

Not a good start to the day. At the very least, the rest of her trip to Mount Obscura wasn't so bad as she rode on her mellow Drampa, Jiji, from the outskirts of Castelia City. Why, she even got to see a flock of Swanna and snap a picture without them noticing! Definitely the highlight of the day...unless she snagged first or second place at the competition, which she planned on doing. It won't be easy, of course, considering the other contestants would most likely be big-shot trainers. Not that it deterred her; she had grit and knowledge on her side, and her hazel eyes on the prize!

"Whew!" Once Jiji landed, Penny returned him to his Poke Ball, and made her way towards the podium. "'scuse me! Sorry, comin' through—ah!" The Pokemon breeder shouted in dismay when an unsuspecting gust of wind blew her brown newsboy hat off of her head before landing at someone's feet.

Chintana had been to Unova once or twice to make his usual photographic rounds. It's been years since he had actually set foot in the region, but it was always a nice change from his usual clienteles would take him. Looking back, ever since he was gifted and hatched his Ducklett egg from his parents, Chintana's life has been far too steady in his eyes. The nicknames he would had for his pokemon soon became forgotten in time as he'd aged.

As for now, here he is, swinging out in the air as his Alolan Raichu flew him to his next photography session. As far as Chintana could tell, it was an average pokemon competition set up way up in the mountains. Hopefully, the scenery would help him capture the participants nicely. Looking at Raichu, he could tell that she was getting tired. Looking down to find a resting spot, Chintana's eyes landed on a pair of black and white flags near Mount Obscura. "Over there Raichu. That's where the competition is," Chintana points as Raichu speedily went down hopefully to set them down quickly.

Landing near an assortment of trainers, Chintana quickly catched Raichu in his arms before returning her to her pokeball. "You did great there," he whispered, opening his backpack to exchange Raichu's pokeball with his camera. Hopefully he would be able to take some pictures before the competition started.

Cough cough- WEEZE-

The raspy breaths of Hakusan was muffled through a handkerchief as he leaned onto a tree. Melian next to him worriedly pat his leg, hopefully relieving a little bit of the pain. "It's ok...I'm ok," the white haired painter assured Melian with a pat, which only caused the pokemon to look at him skeptically. Who didn't though? He always held his old pack of smokes and a lighter somewhere near him.

Reopening a paper map of Unova, Hakusan took a few moments to form a few possible routes formed in his mind before he tried to comfort his partner. "Ain't not an old painter like me to survive like this?" Hakusan joked at his expense, awkwardly chuckling before throwing out Foxfac's pokeball. Looking at his companion expectantly, Hakusan walked up to the winged dragon and settled on his back, Melian following after him. "Now, let's take flight Foxfac. To the competition."

After a very uncomfortable flight, Hakusan was finally brought down to the ground on Mount Obscura. The chattering of the crowd and a slight camera taking pictures behind him was no matter for him at the moment. Usually Hakusan doesn't participate in competitions like this, but the little orphan in him couldn't ignore the grad prize shown. "Please, oh please don't make me regret this..."

Shiori Fujimoto

Clang! The crowbar struck the metallic body of Mecha Cop, sending the robot police officer staggering back. With a loud shatter they slammed into the warehouse's window, barely holding onto the frame to stop them from falling out of building. The Sneasel Ninja cackled loudly, swinging the crowbar again. Lightning crackled, and Mecha Cop was just barely able to block the attack with one of his robotic arms.
"Sayonara, Mecha Cop!" The Sneasel Ninja cackled.

That was his cue.

With a strong blow, Shiori kicked the door to the room open.
"Freeze! World Police!" Shiori exclaimed. He burst into the room, a squad of police officers in high tech gear hot on his trail. The Sneasel Ninja froze, staring at the group of officers in surprise. In the chaos, Mecha Cop pointed his arm at the ninja. A stream of oil sprayed the ninja in the face, and they staggered back with a yell. Mecha Cop pushed himself from the window. He grabbed Sneasel Ninja, slamming them into the wall.
"How? HOW?!" Sneasel Ninja protested. "The radio inhibitors! No one should know you're here!"
"Sometimes, the old fashioned ways are better." Mecha Cop said robotically. The World Police officers spread around the room, and Shiori holstered his laser pistol.

"How you doin', big guy?" Shiori asked. The robot cracked a smile.
"Took you long enough.... Partner." Mecha Cop said. Shiori grinned. An alarm rang through the studio.

"And cut!" The director called out. The actors relaxed, Brycen putting down Rosa. Shiori looked to the director nodding.
"What do you think? I think it was a pretty good take." Shiori said. Jean grinned, making an 'ok' sign.
"Perfecto! That's a wrap!" Jean said. "The final take is finished. Good job, everyone!"
The crew applauded, and Brycen began to take off the Mecha Cop costume.
"Whew... They make this even stuffier every time."

Shiori quickly moved off the filming set, taking off his detective costume as he did.
"In a rush, mon ami?" Jean asked, walking alongside Shiori. The actor gestured to a crew member, who quickly brought over a belt of Pokeballs.
"Today's the day, Jean." Shiori said. "The Mountain Climbing Competition. It's the perfect chance to test Torrent's new limits."
"Ah, wonderful. How has he been handling it so far?"
"Oh, like an absolute champ. Against the wild Pokemon on Victory Road, it's been no competition. But against actual, trained Pokemon? I'm excited to see how we can handle it." Shiori said. The director chuckled. Another crew member handed Shiori another outfit, a red tracksuit with a white stripe on the jacket's arms. Shiori quickly threw it on.

"And who will be attending?" Jean asked. Shiori shrugged, signing a form that was handed in front of him.
"I don't know. I haven't head any big names. I asked Brycen, but he's busy with the Icirrus City Gym." Shiori said. Jean stepped in front of Shiori, and pointed at the actor.
"That's not what I meant. Will Shiori Fujimoto be attending? Or will our masked friend be attending? It has been a while since he's battled..." Jean asked. Realizing what the movie director was asking, Shiori grinned.
"Just watch the tournament, Jean. I'm not going to miss the opportunity to show the world a Magikarp leaping over a mountain."

It was a pretty quick journey for Shiori to get to Mount Obscura. The flight from Virbank City to Castelia City was a fast one, and from there Shiori was able to take a cab to the base of the mountain.
"Thanks for the ride." Shiori said, handing the driver their payment and tapping the roof of the car. He watched the vehicle drive off, then looked to the podium where the contestants were gathering. The actor turned towards the person accompanying him. An intimidating woman in her 20s, dressed in ragged, punk black clothes. She wore a red Assault Vest, and her face had quite a few piercings on it. A lip piercing, a nose piercing, an eyebrow piercing, quite a few ear piercings. Her long black and red hair was pulled back into a ponytail.

Shiori grinned excitedly.
"You ready, Raza?" He asked. The disguised Zoroark rolled her eyes, but nodded. "Alright."
Shiori put the finishing touches on his outfit, putting on the red gloves, before finally putting on the mask.

"It's showtime."

Near the podium, there appeared to be a sudden burst of red smoke! A figure could be seen standing within it. Their head had a particularly strange silhouette, almost resembling a fish. They struck a dynamic pose!

"I am the one that swims up the waterfall!" The figure's pose changed, resembling a swimming in mid-air.

"The crimson warrior that faces the current of evil!" The figure's pose changed once more, flexing their arms. They didn't seem particularly muscular.

"The nautical fighter that always fights on, no matter the odds against them!" The figure's pose changed again, taking a heroic stance. They ran forward, jumping out of the fog!

It was a man in a red tracksuit. Six Pokeballs were hung on their belt, and a set of red gloves and boots were included in their outfit. But the most distinct thing was the mask they wore. It was an incredibly realistic-looking Magikarp, one that covered their entire head. It was as if instead of a normal human head, they had a Magikarp instead. The figure struck one more pose.

"I am the hero that fights for Justice! Karpman!" Karpman yelled! He held the pose, waiting for the applause that would no doubt shower him from the competitors and observers. From within the crowd of observers, Raza waved her hand. The illusion of the red smoke quickly vanished. Feeling something at her feet, the punk woman looked down and noticed a brown newsboy hat fall at her feet. The disguised Zoroark looked over, watching Penny stumble over. She watched the Pokemon Breeder curiously, before picking up the hat and offering it to Penny.

Out For Revenge!
Hypnos watched as the platform he was on got filled slowly, the sight of...around five people catching his eye. However, he couldn't really guess if it were four trainers, or three trainers with a stranger trying to cosplay. The crowd gave giggles to the mention of "Karpman" and whatever else the person said, but he didn't find it amusing. It was ridiculous to see people who were competition were giving this much 'effort'; which in all meant nothing. There was also another downside-possibly everyone else a few to more years older than him. How else would he communicate now if the others were oldies?

In the very front, past the white and black flags that stood on the podium, a man was waving his arms around to silence the awaiting participants. A Meowstic floated around the person as well.

"Attention to all trainers, eyes should be followed up here!" Everyone's eyes had now drifted to the person who possibly was the one who was part of he prepping crew. Hypnos' lip twitched. The letter that was sent to those who were accepted was signed by Fred Gildon. Suppose he's Fred. "Thankfully, because Mount Obscura has just been thoroughly investigated, the Unova Region seems quite pleased with how easily we got to get up a tournament. Several people who tried to entered have been declined, as having too much will be at high risk. The Mountain Climbing Expedition will be held more times in the future, but for now, this stands as the first."

A gathering amount of whistles and other noises was a rippling wave from the onlookers. Hypnos shifted his weight continuously onto the 'other foot' out of boredom.

"The start of this competition will first begin with the accepted players being led around the mountain's base at different areas. Afterwards a sound effect will be played, and these folks will have the signal to start the adventure. The problems the," Fred glanced to those on the podium, "six of them face are how to get themselves to the top, and how to battle their way on for the crown.

The watchers will be viewing this ultimate battle through the drones that will glide in the air through these times. Occasionally, they might stop by and interview a person, so-and-so. If a trainer on the mountain is disqualified, by saying, they have no Pokémon left, they will be given the choice to get down on their own time and watch the on-going trial. Furthermore, rules..."

Everything else Mr. Gildon was running by were the things Hypnos had already read over, so he tuned it out. The speech was tiresome, but not that long that everyone was kept in waiting. Soon more people from...staff maybe?...came over to him and the others under the flags. A woman approached him, lending out a hand before having him follow her. The process was infuriatingly complex.

The six players were led away at different places at the bottom of the mountain because if they climbed in the same area, they would have to battle one another. Having all else split up meant surprises awaiting above. Hypnos was curved to a stop in front of a red marking that was placed on a huge rock. The other contestants might've just been led to the same thing. Now he was all ears for the horn sound to begin.

Hakusan slowly slipped off of Foxfac's back with Melian in his arms. Fixing his hair, he looked around, identifying the contestants that have gathered here before- Eh, what's this? A burst of red smoke explodes and spreads from the podium to reveal one of the most extravagant entrance Hakusan had seen. "Karpman huh? Never heard of him. Does he mean some water type pokemon like Magikarp?" He mutters to Foxfac, which it shakes it's head and flaps it's wings to spread the smoke elsewhere.

Putting Foxfac and Melian back into their respective pokeballs, Hakusan was prepared to look around the base before a Meowstic floats around towards a male with black and white flags, waving to the audience. The male seemed like the host of the competition, and seemed like it too. Listening carefully to the words coming from the male, Hakusan closed his eyes as he huffed, silently praying that everything would turn out well.

"To Arceus and Victini, and to every higher being out there...please make this a safe and smooth-running experience," Hakusan whispers a few lines of prayers under his breath before he felt a light tap on his shoulder. An energetic young man greeted him when he opened his eyes. Hesitant to ask about his business directly, Hakusan only managed to cough out a questioning hello before he was dragged to another station on the mountain base. "Oh, is this where I'm supposed to stand? For the competition, I mean?" he asked the male to which he nods and scurried off back to the podium. Stunned, Hakusan could only watch the male run off before inspecting his surroundings.

"Ah!"
Perking up, Penny's expression brightened at the friendly gesture. "Thanks a bunch! Yer a lifesaver," She chuckled, cheerful and airy, before accepting the hat. Curious hazel eyes lingered on the shiny piercings scattered across the punk woman's face, and without thinking, she let out a low, impressed whistle. Wow, she must have high tolerance for pain! Not only that, but she was oozing with confidence. Surely, she must be part of the competition too, right? Then again, she wasn't on the podium...what a shame.

As amazing as the mysterious woman was, once Penny realized she had been staring at her for quite some time with a starry-eyed expression, she apologized with a sheepish smile and wave. "I better get goin'. I'll see ya 'round!" Bidding her farewell, the Pokemon Breeder hurried up the podium just in time to witness someone shout something about being a hero of justice—all while wearing a Magikarp mask.

...interesting! Though there was something familiar about him. She could have sworn she saw him once on TV before. Before she could dwell on that thought, Penny's attention shifted to the spokesman, most likely the man who organized the event. All the information was familiar to her, but it didn't stop the nervous smile forming on her lips as she swayed her body back and forth. Frankly, it was starting to dawn on her how big of a deal this competition was. The playful, lighthearted Miltank races were but a speck of dust compared to the sheer pizzazz this competition held.

I shoulda practiced for the interviews before comin' here, Penny thought as she followed one of the staff members to her designated spot. Her heart thumped noisily against her chest. No, it was too late to be getting cold feet now! She was going to win this, no matter what! Gulping down her worries, her fingertips brushed against one of the Pokeballs hanging around her belt as she waited for the signal.

Tell watched as Zelno pranced about pickpocketing a few items that they found neat, Tell couldn't help but be slightly proud of their work. Though as more figures began to emerge and contestants began to appear Tell felt like he should call off the little charade that Zelno was doing. When a figure appeared drawing attention to himself calling himself a Karpman, Tell knew that it was time to pack up, not wanting to take any more risks with some guy calling himself a hero appearing at the scene. He wasn't sure what that guys deal was but Tell wasn't for taking chances, last thing he needed was for the supposed hero to look for trouble that he could potentially stop in order to add to his continues hero rep. So when Zelno finally looked back towards him Tell quickly waved them down in order to signal for them to call things off and come back to their side. Zelno stared at Tell stunned for a bit before scurrying off to the side, in order to disappear from sight and get out of the main lines of the crowd.

It didn't take long though before Zelno was able to reappear back to their side, this time instead of transformed as a some random crowd goer, Zelno had transformed as a sort of mirror image of him. Tell couldn't help but smile a bit as Tell opted to stand by their side and play the role as their twin, though he did wish that they saved that card for later during the competition so that people wouldn't suspect it if he used it. But he could still work with it anyways his partner was crafty, and paired with him they would make a tuff duo to any opposition.

It didn't take long after Zelno appeared back at their side before the events host began to announce the starting stages of the competition, Tell did a final check of his pokeballs and gear before heading on towards their station at the bottom of the mountain. Looking up towards the mountain they began to assess what would be the best route they could take when transversing it, so that when the horn blares, him and Zelno will be able to walk up the mountain with their route already put into plan.

Karpman & Raza

If there was anything Raza enjoyed, it was the adoration of others. The disguised Zoroark, realizing Penny was staring at her, grinned and stood a little taller. She tossed some of her hair over her shoulder and winked at Penny, but the moment soon passed. Penny ran off, and Raza let out a strange, wheezing chuckle.

The announcer went over the competition, and the contestants began to be led off in different direction. Raza made her way over to Karpman and watched the others. She especially watched with curiosity and interest as Artelix and Zelno were led off. The keen eyes of the Zoroark could tell there was something off about one of the competitors there... but then they were out of sight, and out of mind.

"Ha ha ha!" Karpman laughed boldly. If he realized the crowd was laughing at his expense, he didn't show it. "This tournament will be a true test of strength and resilience!"
"Ah, Mister... Uh, Karpman?" A staff member approached the masked hero. "It's time to head to the starting zone?"
"Very well! Lead on, friend!" Karpman said, giving the staff member a thumbs up. The staff member led Karpman and Raza to their starting zone. The masked hero readied himself, going through a series of stretches.
"Come, Raza! Let us prepare for the race ahead! Loosen up!" Karpman said. The punk woman rolled her eyes, electing to lean on a nearby tree instead.

Chintana's eyes were glued to his camera the entirety of Fred's speech, too focused on his pictures. After Chintana was done with the pictures and was browsing the ones he had taken, he'd notice a woman standing next to him timidly. He straightened his posture slowly as she explained what he had to do.

"...Huh?" was his response, which slightly shocked the woman, "I think you misunderstand miss...I'm only here to take pictures." Chintana's response was only answered by the woman's disapproved face. "Sir, I think you misunderstand... you'd signed up for this competition," she whispered as she dragged him by the sleeve to his designated area, which he made no major defiant action to his fate.

When he was finally let go of getting dragged away from the main meeting spot and into an area around the mountain base, Chintana pulled out his camera again, ready to take more pictures before the lady's arm grabbed him, stopping him mid-way. "What are you doing? Don't go off taking random pictures while in a competition," her eyebrows furrowed down at Chintana's camera, to which he shrugged before resuming to his camera.

Hypnos Eclair
Out For Revenge!
Hypnos began to get a bit uneasy. The silence seemed to last longer than the time he spent just riding over to the Unova Region. There was a small sound of flapping veering over his head, and he couldn't help but look up to wonder what it was. Oh? It was a bird, possibly coming down from the long journey up the mountain. However, he was still confused to why a creature as small as this would be lingering up on a mountain top; especially since it wasn't a Pokémon.

Losing minor concentration, he swatted it away. The bird chirped and went off on it's merry way, singing a song full of mixed signals through irritation as it went. Hypnos watched it go off. For Mount Obscura, the competition being held didn't specify what the trainers would see. Nothing too special, but it was well known that Pokémon not connected with this little tournament would be watching. If anyone had empty poke-balls, they could easily use one of the Pokémon that reside up here for the battles that would take place. There was already a limit to how many a trainer could carry when joining the Mountain Climbing Expedition Contest, and he didn't have anything open currently.

It would be a big fail, though, if he really did forget to bring a Pokémon of his he needed. Bonding never works that quick, especially when someone is in a time cramp. If anyone in the trials was willing to just improvise with what the mountain has, Hypnos wasn't going to argue over it. Less experience Pokémon to go against, the easier it would be to win.

WHOOM!

The sudden sound nearly startled Hypnos enough to have him fall, yet he had caught himself in time and only buckled a bit. "What kind of noise is that?" He ran a hand through his hair. The familiar roars of laughter seemed to be a bit faded, yet it was coming from the way he just came from. The competition had begun, it seemed. He hadn't had enough time to think of what he wanted to do yet, so he took the most diabolical move and just started to grapple onto the rock walls.

Climbing gear was much expected from everyone who was participating, in hopes no one ended up with swollen and marked hands. Hypnos' own were covered with fingerless gloves. Even though he looked calmed down from the outside, he felt how he must've been struggling. Pulling your whole boy over just the cliff side was hard work-that he had to figure out the hard way. There would most likely be a near chance he would run into another trainer, and the best thing about that was; he wanted to see someone soon.

The itch to just circle a finger over his Poke-Balls was going to overtake him soon; if he couldn't get what he came here for in the first place, he'd just have to improvise and enjoy his time. The sounds of scrabbling and scraping was the only thing that assured him he wouldn't fall. At some points, there were places to rest. No one would get anywhere at this rate; Mount Obscura was quite tall, so tall that climbing with just hands would be tough.

(You can run into your opponent in your next post, or just wait until they do it for you. This competition Only just begun.)

Gloved
fingers dug into one of the jagged rocks along the cliff side as she ground her teeth together and started climbing.

One, two. One, two. One, two.

Breathing steady, her gaze was fixed on her goal; the peak of Mount Obscura—or, well, what she imagined it to be. A plethora of clouds surrounded the latter half of the mountain, making it look like it was touching the sky itself. The distance was a bit discouraging, but Penny tossed those pessimistic thoughts into an imaginary trash can. She'd get there in no time. All she had to do was stay patient, like that wise Torkoal from the fable she used to read as a child.

Slow and steady wins the race.

Eventually, her efforts bore fruit, when out of the corner of her eye, she spotted a familiar patch of short, indigo hair. Her brows shot up with interest. Oh, she recognized that young man. He was the one who jumped off a Charizard's back without a sliver of hesitation. Real daring, that one. Definitely not going to be an easy opponent. Based on those calm and collected looks, she wouldn't be surprised if he were some kind of Ace Trainer. Of course, it did not deter Penny in the slightest as she swallowed hard and switched gears, moving towards the young man.

"Hiya!" Warmth seeped into Penny's voice as she greeted Hypnos, smiling as though she had just encountered an old classmate at a supermarket than a potential rival. "Real nice weather we got today, huh?" Humming, she directed her gaze to the vast sky, eyeing a flock of bird pokemon flying overhead. "Might even be perfect 'fer a Pokemon battle, wouldn't ya say?"

Karpman & Raza

WHOOM!

"That's the signal!" Karpman exclaimed, jumping to his feet mid-stretch. "It's time! Raza! AWAYYY!!!!"
The masked man broke into a sprint, and the punk woman rolled her eyes. She watched him for a moment, before jogging after him. Instead of going directly up the cliff, Karpman seemed to be more interested in taking a longer way around. He dashed through the woods, trying to find a more gradual slope that led up the mountain instead of going straight up the side. They were at the base of the mountain, after all. There would be plenty of time for sheer cliff scaling as he made his way up further. As he ran, he made sure to keep an eye out for any other potential trainers to battle!

When the bell rung singling the beginning of the competition Artelix didn't make any movements for a moment instead looking off in the distance as they deciphered the best pathway forward, after a minute they then began to walk up the mountain with Zelno moving ahead of them. The illusion Zelno took was one of himself, but Artelix didn't mind that one bit, as he was sure people would just put him off as a twin or something. Artelix wasn't looking to rush up the mountain knowing that it would only tire them out faster if they opted to rush up, and he knew enough about mountain climbing to know that taking things slow and steady would be the most viable course of action. With Zelno practically acting as his scout he was sure that he would be alerted to any hidden dangers that could potentially be on this mountain or other trainers that would try to duel him on sight. He began to wonder what sort of tactics he should employee when dealing with other trainers and which pokemon he should utilize first for his duel. His strongest pokemon was his Emboar, but if their emboar gets defeated early on then he would be particularly screwed it was a thought that made him shudder a bit but he supposed he should focus on taking one mountain at a time, particularly the one in front of them that they literally had to climb.

If by any luck they were about to run into a trainer, Zelno would alert them and Artelix figured he would be able to figure out a tactic from there based on what he thinks sees about whatever supposed trainer he should run into. While strong pokemon could probably help someone win battles, a keen mind would probably be best for winning the entire competition, though they supposed alos being in good health would help a person tackle this moutainous challenge that was in front of them.

Shifting his weight against his legs, Hakusan looked up at the mountain uneasily. He feared that climbing up the mountain would pose a problem for his worsening lung problem, especially when he'd soon had to reach the top(assuming he'll win, of course). But it was already too late to be doubting his choices, the bell had long rang for him to get up and going.

After a while walking uphill, it turns out that Hakusan's breathing was less of a challenge compared to his stamina. A small sigh blew out, exhaling a small level of exhaustion already. "It's alright...your body won't fail you now," the white haired whispered as he drew out his pokeball. He saw an potential participant somewhere in hidden in the mountain trees. Deciding to seize the opportunity, Hakusan quickly released his first pokemon, quickly yet quietly yelling out it's first move.

Karpman & Raza

"Left, Right! Left, Right! A hero pushes on, never stopping!"

Calling Karpman 'hidden' was an interesting choice of words. The trainer had been running, forming his own trail through the mountainous trees and plants that littered the landscape of their race course. While he was able to see directly ahead of himself, Karpman's Magikarp mask made it difficult to see things far away. So he was totally oblivious to Hakusan, and his Lucario's attack. Luckily, Raza spotted the pair just as the fighting type fired off its Aura Sphere attack. The punk woman grabbed Karpman by the collar, yanking him back and out of the way of the Lucario's attack. It slammed into a tree next to Karpman, narrowly missing the hero.

Raza glared up at Hakusan and Lucario, shaking her fist at the pair.
"RRRrrrghhhh.. Hhhhheeey!" She shouted up at the pair. Her voice sounded strange, not quite right. But perhaps it was passable. Karpman was startled by the attack, but quickly brushed it (and Raza's grip) off.

"Oh ho ho! A most nefarious sneak attack, thwarted by the excellent observation powers of justice! Well done Raza, my dear friend!" Karpman called out. The masked man struck a power pose, pointing to Hakusan. "Using such a noble Pokemon like a Lucario for such an underhanded strategy? Have you no shame?! Your days of scheming and lurking in the dark are numbered, villain! For now, you face a true hero of justice!"

The masked man cartwheeled towards Hakusan, going into a series of front-flips as he made his way closer to the photographer. He leapt off the ground, twisting through the air in an impressive feat of acrobats and landing in yet another pose. Raza's enraged expression changed to a cringe of second-hand embarrassment as she watched Karpman, and slowly followed after him. Even so, she continued to glare angrily at Hakusan and Lucario.

"I am the hero that swims in the night! The Magikarp that will hurdle this mountain! Ready yourself, villain! For when Pokemon Trainers make eye contact with each other, that is the signal for the battle to commence!" Karpman declared. He pulled a Pokeball from his belt, an Ultra Ball, and pointed it towards Hakusan. "I am Karpman, and I will be the one that will reach the summit of this mountain! You shall regret your attempted sneak attack, villain! Ha! Hoo ha!"
Karpman raised the Ultra Ball over his head, before swinging it around and holding it in front of him with two hands.
"Eagle Knight Crusher! Show this villain your courage!" Karpman commanded. In a flash of red light, a Pokemon appeared from the Pokeball. A large bird Pokemon appeared, one with red and blue feathers and a long, thick beak. The Braviary raised its wings and flapped them, letting out a defiant screech towards Hakusan and Lucario.

"It's time to battle!"

Karpman Battle Theme - Level 1

Karpman pointed to the Lucario as the Braviary took to the air.
"Crusher! Use Air Slash!" Karpman commanded. The Braviary screeched once more, and white energy surrounded its wings. It flapped a wing towards Lucario, and fired a massive blade of razor wind towards the fighting type Pokemon. This attack would be surprisingly large and powerful, and different from other Air Slash attacks the fighting type Pokemon had seen. Thanks to Crusher's Sheer Force ability, this move was much large and more powerful. However, this Air Slash was focused entirely on attack power and damage, with no chance that the Lucario would flinch from the attack.

Well, looks like he might made some enemies in the competition, though expected. The glaring punk woman spewing something illegible to them was one thing but also this Magikarp masked male who went on with an odd way of speaking which he could not understand. Villain huh? Never heard that insult directed at him before. As far as he could remember, Hakusan hasn't done anything illegal or unmoral to be labelled that. The man with the Magikarp mask had odd way of narration rubs Hakusan the wrong way as well, like a flaming narcissistic whose mind is always in their delusions.

Hakusan rests his chin on his hand, covering his mouth in the process while he thought about it deeply. "Say Orion," Hakusan whispered, leaning his weight to Lucario, whose ears turned a bit towards him, "Are you not one bit offended by being labelled as a villain? I'm not quiet sure how to react myself."

Lucario tilt it's head before patting Hakusan's head gently. Though it's not apparent, Hakusan chuckled at the small gesture. "Seriously, Orion. I don't know if I should go along with him or just plain out ignore his theatrics," Hakusan sighed defeatedly, patting Lucario on the back and pushing the Aura pokemon towards the battle, "Well, let's get this over with now. This is your first battle with me but I expect you to do your best as always." With a nod of determination, Lucario nodded fiercely and jumped into battle.

Watching as Karpman sent out his Braviary, a shrill screech ripped from it's beak as it flapped it's wings. "I am honored to have you as an opponent but I have no idea what you're talking about. Lucario, Dodge the attack." Lucario geared it's legs to jump but it was too slow to react to the move. Despite being hit by a flurry of slashes, Lucario didn't flinched from the attack due to Inner Focus, his ability. "Gh- I suppose we're off to a rocky start. Likely due to our inexperience... damn it," Hakusan hushed before jumping back with a counter move. "Metal Sound, then Vaccum Wave." An aggravating, grating sound of Lucario's spikes rubbing against each other echoed through the field, even Hakusan has to cover his ears beforehand. A wave of pure force bolted towards the Braviary, the force from Lucario's fist felt like almost like it happened just back to back to the screeching metal sound.

Hypnos Eclair
Out For Revenge!
The time he spent on the mountain side just trying to search for someone rather than going straight to the top had ranged for around seven minutes; and yes he had been counting like the impatient fool he was. Hypnos had suddenly heard the faint sound of composed breathing-and then someone talking to him. In his way of examining the other, he could recognize the female trainer approaching as one that had feel flat in the mud somewhere when the competition was just getting rallied.

"Real nice weather we got today, huh?" ... "Might even be perfect 'fer a Pokemon battle, wouldn't ya say?"

Hypnos looked up to the sky, where the opponent was gazing at some Pokémon (who were this time not just lazy creatures with no abilities). "You plan to start a battle without even properly introducing yourself? That is quite bold, but utterly preposterous." He shook his head, giving off a disappointed look. Yet it was soon covered up when he continued on. "But that isn't necessarily stopping me from wanting to join in on a fight between Pokémon. I still can't believe I'll have to work this much to find others..." Hypnos sighed-half of it potentially a groan.

His hand had grappled for a Poke-Ball nestled inside one of his pockets, bringing it forward without a hint of hesitation.

"You don't seem like you're as competitive as I thought I would see in all the participants here, but it's good enough," Hypnos spoke as if he was criticizing [Penelope]. "For my name...call me Hypnos. I'm pretty sure you might've saw it on the scoreboard when we all were being lectured by Mr. Gildon, but I wanted to make sure you don't mess it up with your accent." With that, his wrist snapped a bit back with a simple flick, and his lips moved slowly but surely-uttering a few words.

"Show yourself, Lumina!"

A small blinding light encapsulated both trainer's vision, and the form of a mushroom hat glowing fluctuated. Shiinotic, in other words named Lumina, started with a distorted melodic song emanating from it's mouth, before creepily smiling up at [Penelope]-in a way to wait for her to pull out an enemy (Pokémon). Just in the corner of Hypnos' eye was the sight of a fellow Rotom drone whizzing around, preparing to watch what happens next since it found trainers at the ready.

"Haha, my bad!"
Her sheepish laughter rang out, the friendly smile still present on her lips. His expression and tone was certainly...questionable, but she chalked it up as jitters from the competition. After all, who wouldn't be on edge considering there were hundreds of spectators watching the competition? Maybe a bit of kindness would help him relax. Growing sympathetic, she held out a hand. "Penelope Tanaka's tha name! But call me Penny. Let's have a clean, fair fight, alright?"

Of course, that innocent desire soon crumbled away and turned into dust. She could excuse the rude tone and the haughtiness to a degree, but the unexpected jab at her accent? Scrunching up her nose in distaste, she dropped her hand to her side. "Sheesh. What're ya? FIve? I didn't think there'd stuck-ups like ya in a competition fer adults." Her gaze hardened with determination as her fingers grazed the shell of her pokeball. "Word of advice; yer not gonna last long with that attitude. C'mon out, Flutters!"

Tossing a pokeball up in the air, it cracked open and a flash of light escaped, eventually revealing a tiny, yellow bug type Pokemon. Returning Lumina's smile, the Rimbombee fluttered around the Pokemon, buzzing with excitement before pulling away. Penny's gaze lingered on the Shiinotic, and she suppressed a sigh; it was a shame that such an adorable Pokemon belonged to, well, a jackass. Frankly, she would've loved to examine the Grass type, especially if it was from a region other than Alola. For example, would it adopt a more pacifistic behavior if it originated from a region that had a low population of Parasects? Alas, her curiosity would have to wait.

"Pollen Puff!"

Chittering, the Rimbombee scooped up bits of pollen stuck to its fluffy hair, rolling into a tight and compact ball before hurling it straight at Lumina's face.

Hypnos bit the inside of his cheek as he watched the new spiraling light from Penny envelope the form of a Ribombee. The bug-type part of the Pokémon would wager a hefty blow because it worked best against Grass-Types. However, he wasn't going to pull Shiinotic away now. "If I'm not lasting long with my attitude, you're not lasting long with those names," He muttered under his breath. Seriously, what was Flutters? This...western trainer has 'ought to have lost her mind.

The first move; Pollen Puff, had been shot out at Shiinotic, in which the humble creature couldn't protect itself in much time. The small, puffy cloud hit Lumina smack dab in the face, before dispersing. With a bit of a dramatic head tilt backwards, Lumina's smile seemed to twitch into a frown.

"That move seemed like a insult to us, don't you think?" Hypnos pointed out to his Shiinotic, which in turn she shifted on her so-called legs. "Let's kick off with Disarming Voice then!" Lumina seemed to have already known it was coming, and prepared her song of disarray. A few echoes warped the air as a stream of sounds were sent to the fly mid-space.

Karpman

As the battle began Raza walked a safe distance away. The punk woman sat at the base of a tree, watching the battle play out and glaring at Hakusan the whole time. This jerk, barely even talking to Shiori. The sight of this human was enough to boil her blood, but the disguised Zoroark was well trained enough to know to wait her turn. Hopefully Shiori, that was, Karpman, would let her prove her might against this trainer this battle. Unless Crusher managed it all himself.

The Lucario let out a loud, painful metal noise as its spikes grinded together. The Braviary screeched in pain, and while Karpman winced, he withstood the attack. The Braviary shook its head, and barely had regained its senses when the Lucario followed up with another attack. Vacuum Wave, a shockwave punch attack. The Braviary was knocked about in mid-air, but managed to stay in flight.

"So your Pokemon is fast, eh? Well, we have ways to keep up! Eagle Knight Crusher, show them your mastery of the air! Use Tailwind!" Karpman commanded. The Braviary nodded, and beat its wings fiercely. The trees around the trainers began to groan and sway as the winds picked up around the battlers. The winds were quite particular, and would blow in such a way to speed up Karpman's Pokemon.

"Now, keep up the pressure! Air Slash!" Karpman commanded. The Braviary screeched, flying higher into the air. The massive bird Pokemon flapped its wings once more, sending a powerful slash of wind towards the fighting/steel type. Just like before, this Air Slash was larger and more powerful, at the cost of not being able to make its target flinch.

Adele Frost
Surprises Are What She Seek!
Adele, apparently, had no current plans-or so she thought. It was supposed to be a simple morning of annoying her brother while he went out with his friends, but then suddenly she realized she missed to read several emails! Her mind had completely blown off the fact she had wanted to participate in a Mountain Climbing Competition the day before, and so now she was left to be late. Vernon didn't help her at all...or at least, he only shooed her off as quickly as he could so that she could reach the nearest transportation exit. She didn't have much time to explore the Unova region, so she did indeed waste several minutes getting lost and then circling over again.

But, eventually, Adele connected to a GPS through her phone and managed to see just the clearest tops of Mount Obscura from afar after a while. A huge crowd was still waiting, merely silent because they seemed to be watching something. Oh no! Heck, she could forget being punctual-her participation chance was already slipping from her grasp. Her Squirtle, Yyn, seemed to already guess her future actions, because he was barely clinging to Adele's shoulders as she bolted to the now empty podium.

A few waiting staff members looked surprised by her sudden appearance, but did realize the situation. "Apologies for my tardiness!" Adele panted out, but was practically dying in the inside. "Now...could you show me where to start, if it isn't too late?" The blonde trainer looked up weakly, a slight glint of hope in her eyes. A woman sighed, before helping Adele to her station, and then left her to think.

Mount Obsucra was most definitely a scary looking mountain-one that made her feel smaller than usual. Yyn fiddled with the sleeve of her clothes with his hands, an act of being nervous. "Alright Yyn! There's nothing for us to be afraid about, but ourselves. This'll count as one of our first competitions that is settled outside of stadiums. That doesn't make us unexperienced though. For you, you gotta take it easy. I haven't had you evolve yet, so you still need time to gain some good skills," Adele patted Yyn. "But of course, I'm definitely going to use you in a battle-in hopes we win one too! Now let's just get ourselves up here..." She looked up, holding back the urge to gulp.

Occasionally clenching, and unclenching her hands, Adele took off on her new task. The mountain was like a roped staircase-it was a bit possible to walk on the edges and slowly make it to the top-so that was what she was going to do. The feeling of her mega evolution stone lying just in the flower in her hair encouraged her to keep moving. She had gotten Ampharos' crystal recently, and was excited to continue using it. Her mentor wasn't active lately, so she'd have to just use it without their eyes watching. She was curious though. Where have they been through the past month?

In the midst of her wandering around, Adele noticed the bobbing head of a blackish-brown tinted haired person. Or was it two? Another separate figure was walking along the trainer, but there was some distinguishable features she would notice. A not-so perfected mimic, is all. "You there!" She waved, extending her arm high enough so they'd spot her. Her confidence leveling might as well be starting to simmer down now, because she now feared that the trainer she was going to face was someone very elite in their works. "I'm pretty sure our meeting means a battle. Would you care to join in one with me? I'm Adele by the way, or you can call me Ade (pronounced Ada)."
