Background(so far): Her parents were ritch, and always wanted their daughter to be "perfect" as to not disappoint them. Although, at the time, she was also working on her own shop and interests after leaving her parents before they died, which was a repair shop for all classes. Later, she hears that the Phantomhive estate is looking for a mechanic/repair person, and she heads there to apply and to see if the Earl Phantomhive might be interested in a portion of her parent's company, or something
Haruka is the heiress to a large manufacturing company, started by her father. When she was born, her mother wanted her to be the "perfect" daughter, and pushed her in everything. When she wouldn't comply, or live up to her mother's "expectations", Haruka would get a new mark on her body, usually in the form of a knife slicing across her skin, no food for that day, or some other form of abuse from her mother. Her father never truly knew what was happening to his only daughter, since he was almost always away on business. When he came back, Haruka's mother had covered up her daughter's wounds carefully with different forms of clothing.
Her parents were business partners with the Phantomhive Family, and let them use some of their factories to produce toys and other products. As a result of working together, and in the hopes to bring their companies closer together, the Utane family and the Phantomhive family would spend quite a bit of time together. Haruka would usually play with Ceil, Elizabeth, and spent a lot of time with their Aunt Angelina(Madam Red). She was particularly close to her, and came to her for things one would normally ask their mother(advice on boys, questions about life, etc). She also thought of Ceil as a younger brother and Elizabeth as a sister.
Because her parents were so close with the Phantomhives, they were targeted by several gangs, thinking that their shipments were also being used to transport illegal weapons and drugs. Usually, they had great guards who would protect them. Although, one night, when Haruka was around 14 years old and had finished having to endure another round of "discipline" from her neurotic mother, and her dad came home from another business trip. Wanting to say 'goodnight' to her father, she went in search for them. Their manor was fairly large, so it takes a while to reach his study from her bedroom. When she was about half way there, she heard a crash, screaming, then gunshots. When she finally got to her father's study, Haruka heard some sort of strange revving noise coming from inside. She threw open the door to see what was had happened, and saw her parents lying on the ground in a pool of their own mixed blood. The last thing she saw before she passed out was a figure standing above her mother's corpse, stabbing something into her, causing film reels to fly out, flowing red hair, and yellow-on-green eyes looking over at her in shock.
When Haruka came to, she was in a hospital, all alone. She heard someone call her name, and looked towards the window next to her. A cat-like creature stood there, calling itself Keyubey. It offered her a contract: she would get one wish, anything in the world. Although, in return, she had to become a Magical Girl and do battle with creatures called "witches" which were plaguing all of London. She thought for a moment, then asked if she could wait until she was a bit older and wiser to make her decision. She wanted to see what she could accomplish on her own before taking such a big leap. The creature agreed, and left her be.
After she was released, she decided to use some of what her family had left her to start her own business: a repair and invention shop. She would still try and run her parent's company, though, in honor of her father. She always had a talent for inventing things and repairing machinery. On the side, she decided to take up learning dance, martial arts, and singing, since her mother never let her do those things.
