Who makes decisions? Who decides who makes decisions?
For most people, these questions are irrelevant; they are, understandably, content with the systems in place so they aren’t forced to think about these things. Even when those systems are fucking you, when they’re designed to ruin your life. Human nature means finding comfort in the established rather than going through the struggle of building from the ground up.
What happens when the people in charge disappear?
This is the reality faced by this group of young adults when they awaken to find they’re the only ones left. The seaside town of Clearwater, Connecticut was always sleepy, any sense of urgency absent from its existence and the lives of its residents, but there is such a thing as too quiet. Some of them were back in town visiting family, some were vacationing, but it was easy to tell something was amiss on the morning of June 16th regardless of where you were from. There weren’t any cars on the street, small businesses still had their lights off, even nature seemed too frozen to be anything other than off-putting.
Clearwater's summer visitors found themselves alone in their homes, AirBnBs, and hotel rooms - no parents, siblings, hotel staff. Unbeknownst to them, their devices were cut off to the outside world, the town’s surrounding forest seemingly at least doubled, and nothing was going in or out any time soon.
So, who makes decisions?
hi! i'm maggie and this is my spin on netflix's (tragically cancelled) show, the society! in the show, a small town's senior class return to town from a field trip that was cut short to discover that everyone else has gone missing. here, we're going to be writing as young adults that are visiting town - they might be vacationers, college students coming back home for the summer, young professionals on a business trip, or whatever else you can think of. apparently completely cut off from the outside world, how are they going to rebuild in order to survive?
full disclosure: i'm hoping for this to be a collaborative experience! what, exactly, happened to this town and its residents is something we're going to figure out together, and i'd love to hear y'all's ideas and general input (:
big shout out to neverbackdown for the idea, and for trusting me to reboot it ily

setting
Clearwater
Clearwater, Connecticut. A predominantly wealthy coastal town surrounded by thick forest. A mere hour drive along I-95 from New Haven, the town is used to receiving its fair share of visitors throughout the year and thrives on tourism during the summer. Its current state is... unsettling at best.

The Remaining
The only thing those still in town have in common is that they don't live here. Maybe they never did, maybe they didn't even want to be here. Regardless, they're stuck in this shit together, and how they respond to their circumstances affects everyone.

The Vanished
The permanent residents of Clearwater. At least, until recently. Children, parents, bank tellers, doctors - everyone is gone. Who knows what happened to them?

rule one!
all characters and writers alike should be over the age of 18. no hate to the kids, i'm simply uncomfortable writing with minors and bored of writing teenagers. characters of all backgrounds are welcome, literally the only requirement is that at present time they are not permanent residents of clearwater. queer, BIPOC, and disabled characters encouraged!
rule two!
realistic face claims only. i'm sorry, i won't budge on this. i have difficulty connecting to characters with artistic face claims or based solely on descriptions. additionally, i ask that face claims be over the age of 18 and reasonably close to the character they are portraying's age (i.e., don't pick a 54 y/o FC for a 19 y/o character). i'm more than happy to help look for a face claim, please let me know!
rule three!
discord will be required! the OOC will be hosted there. please do your best to not exclude people, and please reach out should any OOC conflicts come up. obviously no bigotry, drama, or disrespect of any sort, i won't think twice before banning. keep that shit between characters.
rule four!
i don't have any hard and fast rules regarding post length or activity other than no one liners. so long as you and your writing partners are content and helping progress the story (be it the overarching conflict or personal plots) do whatever you want! i'll check in with everyone every so often just to get a sense for how everyone's feeling, and if i notice limited OOC activity/no posts for two weeks/receive a complaint from a writing partner i'll do an individual check in.
rule five!
while there aren't any set roles, this rp is not first come, first serve. there's no limit on characters, individually or for the whole group, but if i don't think a character fits the vibe or would be difficult to plot with, i reserve the right to say naur. of course, i'd be happy to work with you to edit them if you'd like!
