  The Davenports are far from perfect compared to the Bloomingtons who have been their lifelong friends. The matriarch of the family does her best to work within the confines of her marriage, which are slowly falling apart behind the scenes and in front of the eyes of the Ton. The Patriarch is an alcoholic, spends his money as if he has plenty of it to go around, and is often seen with women who are not his own wife. Together they have 3 sons, and 2 daughters. The two eldest sons are seen as just as scandalous as their father, as rakes, preying on the freshly debuted young ladies of the ton and taking them to their bed. The youngest is often traveling, which the ton speculates is to escape the family's troubles. It is the Eldest daughters second season while the youngest is set to be debuted this season. While the Bloomingtons live true to their name, a beautiful rose in full bloom, the Davenports seem to be wilting faster than they can handle.

Her parents had high hopes for her during the social season, as she effortlessly entertained friends, family, and acquaintances. She could make people laugh, share the latest gossip, and surprise others with intriguing facts. However, everything changed after last season's scandal. Celestine has become more reserved, and almost invisible in social settings. Despite this shift, she maintains her close relationships where she can, demonstrating unwavering loyalty despite her heartbreak. She goes out of her way to show her loved ones their importance, unlike how she had been hurt before. She constantly reminds herself that those around her are not like him; they have always been her foundation. Often, she focuses on others' needs to distract from her own lingering pain and the pieces of her heart she is still mending.

  The Davenport home was far from perfect, a fact well known throughout the ton long before Lady Whistledown ever aired its dirty laundry in her notorious society papers. Whispers abounded of Lord Davenport's infidelities and Lady Davenport's fervent denials over spiked high tea. It seemed a miracle to the ton that such a tumultuous marriage could produce so many children, and to Celestine, a miracle she survived her chaotic upbringing. Family dinners were tense, often ending in fierce arguments between her parents, with dishes thrown and the children banished to their rooms. Yet, for the sake of appearances, the dishes were always cleaned, the house immaculately maintained, and event after event was hosted as if they were a loving family. Despite the transparent facade, the ton kept up the pretense.
  
  Celestine often felt overshadowed by her brothers, who monopolized their parents' attention whenever they weren’t fighting. When her brothers were sent off to school or traveling, Celestine found herself thrust into the spotlight. Her lessons in music, arts, languages, and dance became more intense and frequent, raising her suspicions. Listening to the servants' gossip, Celestine discovered that her father's and brothers' misadventures were draining the family finances. As the first of the two daughters to debut, Celestine was to be paraded around like a prized mare at auction, intended to restore the family's squandered wealth, only to be wasted again.
  
  During the winter before her debut, Celestine fell ill with tuberculosis. Her condition was so severe that many nights, it was feared she might not survive. Miraculously, she pulled through, though not without lingering symptoms that persisted throughout the year, causing her to miss the social season. She suffered from dizzy spells that often led to fainting and a persistent, rattling cough that plagued her for months. When she showed signs of improvement the following winter, her lessons resumed immediately.
  
  Initially, Celestine resisted the relentless lessons, growing weary and restless. But after receiving threats from both parents, she lost the will to fight. Feeling too drained from her health woes. Lord Callum Westwick, a devilishly handsome man, had caught her eye a few months into the season. He was her sole caller, and with his charm, wealth, and good looks, Celestine and her parents were thrilled about the potential match. Given that perhaps many of the other callers had thought her too sickly to be a proper match. However, Westwick proved as devilish as he was handsome, and the love she felt was not reciprocated once he got what he wanted. After he took what he wanted from her—body, heart, and soul—he did not propose. Instead, he moved on to the next doe-eyed lady, oblivious to his true intentions.
  
  The secret Celestine harbors is known only to her and her governess. If revealed, it would further tarnish her family's already precarious reputation, more so than her status as unwed in her second season.

He constantly felt like the backup plan, that he needed to be a little less of a disappointment just so his parents had options. Home life wasn’t anything to write home about. Between preparing one of their sons to take over the family one day, there were a lot of fights. Things were constantly being broken in a drunken state by their father before he would inevitably disappear to be unfaithful to their mother once again. Morgan had made the mistake once when he was sixteen to try and stand up to his father. His mother was in a state of tears, and family dinner was in a state of disarray. Morgan stepped in when the screaming got louder, his father holding a broken plate in his hand. The scar across Morgan’s left shoulder is proof of how that night went. No one interfered after that. As far as The Ton knew, it was a hunting accident. Morgan’s father is the reason he refuses to ever drink. He doesn’t want to lose himself so much that he would hurt someone close to him.

When Morgan reached adulthood, it felt like a weight was lifted. He was able to do what he wanted which included leaving his family and The Ton for a while while he explored Europe. He found himself in those two years he was gone and one of those things was his taste in men. He spent this time exploring himself and sexuality, something he knew he would never be able to do in London. While in France, he met a man that changed his perspective on everything. He fell in love in that small town on the French Riviera and he was ready to leave his whole life behind just to chase that feeling for the rest of his life. Too bad life doesn’t work out that way. He received word that his family needed him and while he would’ve loved to abandon them for love, he couldn’t bring himself to do it. It was that decision that lost him the love of his life though. Morgan was told not to come back if he left and he didn’t.

Two years back in London and Morgan has earned a reputation of being a Rake like his brother. He almost finds the accusations amusing. He indeed has frequent visitors in his bed but of course none of them are women. He has had some women lie that they have been in his bed to hopefully trap in marriage but it has only hurt them. Morgan keeps his sexual endeavors on the down low, no one knowing about the company keeps. He hasn’t told any of his family and he doesn’t plan on it.

This season, his parents are pressuring Morgan to find a wife. His brother's reputation is far more tainted than his own and his sisters need as much pull as they can get. Morgan had drilled into him that he would help to ensure his sisters went off to good families, that he would marry a proper young woman, and produce sons. That wasn’t something he could do with the company he liked to keep. He is dreading this season, not wanting any part of society.   Victoria Claire Lovell was born on July 15th, 1764, in the English countryside just outside of London. Although her parents were wealthy, they did not hold titles of nobility. Still, Victoria was brought up to navigate the rules and expectations of high society, much like her mother before her. The family spent the social Season in London, returning to the countryside once the flurry of events concluded. Victoria, however, much preferred the quiet rhythms of country life—wide-open fields, stables filled with horses, and the fresh, unfiltered air—over the stifling etiquette and endless chatter of the city.
  
  She was not the only child. Two years after her birth, Victoria's younger brother, Nathaniel Lovell, came into the world. While Nathaniel was more even-tempered and agreeable to their mother's standards, he often found himself swept up in his sister's rebellious escapades. The two shared a strong sibling bond, with Nathaniel often serving as both accomplice and peacemaker.
  
  Growing up, Victoria frequently found herself in trouble—rarely with her father, but often with her mother. She was constantly criticized for her unladylike behavior: climbing trees, riding horseback without a saddle, and eating without proper utensils. Her mother, a cold and exacting woman until the day she died, never missed a chance to ridicule such behavior. But rather than break her spirit, the scorn only drew Victoria closer to her father. Assuming it was another thief, Victoria did not call for guards or maids, preferring to handle matters herself.
  
  With boldness bordering on recklessness, she grabbed a large gardening tool and marched toward the figure. Unlike previous thieves, this person was on horseback, a detail that should have warned her something was different. Undeterred, Victoria swung the gardening tool at the man's back, knocking him off his horse.
  
  Their eyes locked that day, anger blazing in hers as she accused him of stealing from her family. Despite being knocked off his horse, his brown eyes danced with beautiful laughter. Victoria never forgot how he boldly laughed at her, howling as she stood there gripping the gardening tool with both hands. He asked what she planned to do with it after knocking him off the horse, and she was stunned to hear him speak, especially when he sat up and removed his hood. Eventually, Victoria admitted she didn't know, joining in his laughter as she shook her head.
  
  She did not know he was a Viscount that day, not until the following season when she turned 18. The same sense of enchantment overtook her as he glided towards her, ignoring all the other mamas and their doting daughters vying for his attention. When he jokingly hoped she wouldn’t take another swing at him with a gardening tool, Victoria choked on her drink. His laughter filled the room, and she couldn’t help but join in. They had shared that laughter twice, even before knowing each other's social status.
  
  Although she loved Stephan as a dear friend, Victoria was aware that as the seasons passed, her parents grew anxious about her not finding a husband. Stephan once again left her speechless when he called on her in her final season before she was to be deemed a "spinster," just as her parents were losing hope. Torn between not wanting to disappoint her father and not wanting to lose her friendship with Stephan, she accepted his proposal.

Raised within the confines of the imperial court yet shielded from the burdens of public recognition, Helena was brought up with a comprehensive education in Vienna. She mastered several languages, the art of diplomacy, refined etiquette, and courtly dance, excelling in every discipline not from compulsion, but from a quiet yearning to please her parents, whose love was both a comfort and a compass.
  
  Since her tenth year, Helena had spent every summer in England, staying at her maternal grandparents’ estate. She had taken to wandering the frostbitten woods beyond her family's estate, searching for stillness—something to still the noise of disappointment and the ache from her failed engagement. It was on one of these silent walks that she came upon him: a black-furred, sharp-eyed dog standing alone in the snow, guarding the remains of an older dog that had clearly raised him. He was thin, his coat tangled, but his posture noble and proud, as if daring the cold to claim him.
  
  Helena didn’t try to catch him. She sat several yards away and simply stayed. She returned the next day with food. The third day, she spoke his name aloud—Holló—and he came. They were never apart after that.
  
  At court, Holló is her constant shadow. He sits beside her during long diplomatic councils and receptions, curled calmly at her feet, silent but alert. His presence unsettles many courtiers—his amber eyes seem to read motives too quickly, too well. Suitors who approach with hollow flattery or veiled ambition find themselves gently but unmistakably stared down by him.   Euphemia Pembroke had a childhood to be envied. Her parents, the Earl and Countess of Gloucester, were more hands on than most other parents of noble families, and gave her boundless love and attention. She and her two younger sisters, Estella and Evangeline, grew up in a beautiful Jacobean manor in the Cotswolds and wanted for nothing. They became well accomplished in the arts, languages and other subjects, and were generally well set up for a future as happy as their childhood.
  
  Unfortunately, that happiness was not to last. In 1812, the Earl of Gloucester was at a parliamentary sitting in the House of Lords. Nobody could tell that he was in great pain, for he hid it well, but when the 9 hour sitting was over, he collapsed and was rushed to the nearest hospital. So devoted to his duties, he had ignored the symptoms that had been developing over the past day or two, misinterpreting it as a case of gastroenteritis that he believed he was strong enough to handle on his own for the sake of his job. In fact, his appendix had burst and he was suffering a severe stomach infection as a result. He was dead before he had even reached the operating table.
  
  The news of his sudden passing destroyed the Pembroke family in more ways than one. Not only was the Countess and their three children utterly devastated, but their lives were about to take an even darker turn. Since the couple had no sons, the Earl’s title went to a distant cousin, Lord David Pembroke, whom they had rarely met before. The new Earl of Gloucester turned out to be a cold-hearted and selfish man, who promptly took over the manor and evicted the family, as was his right.
  
  The only consolation that came from this was the money that the late Lord Pembroke had set aside for his wife and children in the event of his death, which was enough to buy them a modest house in the country. However, with no income besides their inheritance, their financial situation grew dimmer by the year. His widow, Lady Pembroke appeared to miss her husband more and more as time went on. When he died it had affected all the family, but none more so than her. Losing the love of her life changed her irrevocably; she lost the light in her eyes, and grew fitful and ridden with anxiety. Her only wishes now are that her three daughters will marry into wealth to secure their futures. As Euphemia, the eldest of the three, enters her debut season, the pressure is on her to find a suitable husband as soon as she can.

  From the tense environment within the Hennessy household, the close bond he shared with his disabled brother and growing up in the shadow of his older brothers, Edmund always felt like the black sheep of the family. Ever a sensitive soul, he cared about his brother when nobody else seemed to, and that quality has only grown as it extended into adulthood long past his brother’s passing and to the patients he now treats. Though he understands he lives in a society where he can’t be his true self, Edmund is a romantic who dreams of finding love. Though his work as a physician can be mentally and physically challenging, Edmund finds solace in his studies.   Because of the juxtaposition between the false pretense of perfection that his family upholds and the true disharmony that goes on within the walls of the estate, Edmund doesn’t hold much respect for the rules of society. To him, the strict customs and etiquette that is forced upon the Ton seems to strip people of their natural authenticity.   Edmund was born the youngest of five brothers into an influential noble family in Cork, Ireland, in 1788. His mother is the Countess of Cork, which made his father an Earl when he married her. Despite the family's influence, wealth, and luxurious lifestyle, however, life inside their grand estate was anything but perfect. Their father was a politician and an anglophile who leaned into his English heritage at a time of great political upheaval between the two countries, and his favour towards English rule during the 1798 Irish rebellion brought the upheaval within the walls of the Hennessy residence. The relationship between his mother and father grew bitter and distant, with each of them trying to turn their children against the other. They never divorced, and so the Hennessy children were forced to grow up in a household of hatred and resentment. Though they appeared to want for nothing, all five of the brothers lacked the benefit of growing up with loving parents.
  
  To make matters worse, Edmund's older brother, Benjamin, who was the fourth son, lived with disabilities that saw him ostracised from the family. Benjamin's developmental delay and learning difficulties became apparent early on in his infancy, around the same time he became deaf and had his first seizure, which he suffered frequently throughout his short life. He never gained full access to his speech and needed constant support from his physician and nursemaids. His parents were so ashamed of his conditions that they had an annex built on the grounds of the house where Benjamin could live isolated and away from public view. When the boy was 15, he lost a leg to peripheral arterial disease. Only 3 years after the amputation, Benjamin passed away at the young age of 18.
  
  As a child, Edmund was always fascinated by his brother. He loved to spend time with him, and found his presence joyful, something most of the family failed to find. Edmund taught himself sign language to communicate with him, and enjoyed making him laugh his bold, bright laughter. Throughout his childhood, Edmund developed a familial friendship with his brother's personal physician, Dr Faraday, and he often snuck away to the annex to watch him at work.
  
  Benjamin's death devastated Edmund, who was only 15 at the time. His family's lack of apparent grief disturbed him further, and he soon fell into a depression. As a response, his parents sent him away with his aunt and uncle on a grand tour in attempt to refocus his attentions elsewhere while enhancing his education and ensuring the family's reputation took no damage.

  Three years later, Edmund returned home to Ireland feeling refreshed and with a renewed determination to take life into his own hands. With his three remaining brothers now all married and pursuing successful gentlemanly careers as a clergyman or a lawyer, Edmund himself enrolled at Oxford University to become a physician, and has steadily been gaining respect in his chosen field within the sphere of the upper class.
  
  Late last year after getting uncharacteristically drunk at a ball, Edmund disappeared into the night. His mother awoke in her bed in the early hours of the morning and looked out of her window to spot her youngest son in the rose garden, largely unclothed and entwined within the arms of another man. Dressed only in her night rails and a dressing gown, Lady Hennessy stormed outside and dragged him into the house. She was absolutely disgusted not only by what she had caught him doing, but also to discover what her son was.
  
  She swore the servants who witnessed them to secrecy and refrained from telling the rest of the family. Her discretion, of course, wasn't out of sympathy but of concern for the family's image, and did not come without punishment. When the Earl, now a member of the House of Lords, was next due to travel to London for the season, Edmund was to travel there with him. If he returned after the season without a fiancée, then Lady Hennessy would tell his father and have him cut from the will.

  Solomon was always used to the finer things in life. Born an only child, he commanded respect from a very young age and received it by the tonne. As heir to an Earl, a title which he inherited at the age of 16, Solomon was primed to put himself at the forefront of every social season. He took advantage of his position a number of times, garnering a harem of female admirers, many of whom came from the wrong side of society. At the age of 17, Solomon embarked with his uncle on a grand tour of Britain's colonies which lasted for 2 years. During his travels he unknowingly brought multiple women to ruin with his philandering, but never had to deal with the consequences of his actions before moving onto his next tour. He came home cultured in more ways than one, to the greater respect of his peers in society back home. Wanting the best for her only son, his mother then purchased for him a commission to become an Officer of the British Army. Like her, Solomon had less interest in the greater meaning of his rich education than in his heightened image. In his eyes and hers, the world revolved around him - his servants treated him so, as did the papers and also the women whom he had a way of charming into his bed.
  
  In 1777, Solomon furthered his travels by fighting in the American Revolutionary War and, despite returning home without a single battle scar, managed to earn the title of Colonel within 7 years. By now, he was back in his London family estate. His mother and father had both passed away, and he was in want of a wife to begin his own family. His handsome appearance, outward self-confidence and ability to charm - not to mention the titles he carried - soon captured the attention of one Caterina Davenport.
  
  They married in the year of 1785, when Solomon was 28 years old and not longer after, Caterina produced his son and heir. All was going well for him until his riding accident. It happened only one month after Henry was born, when Solomon was thrown from his horse and hit his head on a rock. He suffered amnesia of the weeks preceding his injury, including the memory of Henry's birth, and for a time it was doubtful he would survive. Fortunately - for him, at least - he managed to pull through with the help of the county's best doctors, albeit with some resulting long-term ailments that rendered him unable to return to his military duties. The traumatic brain injury he suffered has since impaired his judgement and left him with emotional dysregulation that often puts his wife, children, and all those around him at the centre of his violent moods. He began to drink even more than he ever used to as a way of self-medicating his chronic head pains and emotional disturbances, and his prior penchant for gambling and philandering devolved into an addiction.
  
  Over the years, his relationship with his wife dwindled, and he came to view her as nothing but a tool to produce more children and continue his bloodline. They produced four children overall: Henry, Morgan, Ichabod and Celestine. To Solomon, his family are now merely part of the respectable image he believes he still upholds within society. As long as they do well for themselves, then, in his mind, that is a credit to him. If they make scandals of themselves, however, then it is because they are failing him. Yet, they continue to disappoint him in every way, from Celestine missing what should have been her first season due to illness, to Henry's homosexual escapades; Morgan's bullheadedness to Ichabod's soft, idealistic nature. His concern is not for them, however, but for himself. His children are his possessions, and, as a man who wants only the finest things in life, he wants them - and Henry in particular - to prove to him that they are capable of keeping the Davenport name held in high regard.

  Caterina grew up in Scotland before moving to London when she was nineteen. She moved in with her Aunt who never had any children and wanted someone to show off to society. In her first season, she had interest but she decided not to pursue anyone. When it came to her second season, she was enamored by the recently traveled Lord Davenport. He was charming with a devilish side that she was drawn to. They were engaged before the end of the season, marrying the following year.
  
  Caterina fell pregnant with Lord Davenport’s child not long after their marriage but she found out quickly that marriage was not what she thought it would be. While she was in love with Lord Davenport, he was a self-obsessed man who treated their staff poorly. It didn’t take long for her to find out that he seeked love out of his marriage. She was heartbroken for herself and their child as well as angry. Her anger got the better of her when she paid off one of their servants to make sure Lord Davenport had a riding accident. Sadly, things don’t always go as planned. Not only did Lord Davenport survive, life got worse. She had their son, Henry and continued to bear his children while he continued to cheat, drink, and make everyone’s lives miserable. She has stayed and endured all of this heartache for her children that she loves dearly. She made the mess that they’re in and it’s only fair she stays to clean up the mess. Caterina just hopes that her children find good matches and don’t repeat history.
  
  When their estate funds started to dwindle due to her husband’s vices, Caterina started doing whatever she could do to set up her children for success. She just hoped they would start their own lives before the sinking ship sank.
  
  Preparing for this season, she hopes that her children will marry and be able to learn what love and life is outside the dark shadows of their home. Francis Alexander Bloomington grew up knowing what a loving family felt like. He is the second oldest of the Bloomington children and wouldn’t trade anything in the world for his siblings. He was given the freedom growing up to grow his interests. As a young boy, Francis grew to love horseback riding more than anything. His mother would find him asleep in the stables when he was a young boy. He always insisted on doing all of the horse care himself even if it were frowned upon by society that he do so. The older Francis got, the more he enjoyed the company of his family and while they have had their ups and downs as well as the death of their father, he cherishes the time he gets with them.

Francis didn’t do much traveling like most young men do in The Ton and instead mainly stayed in their countryside home, tending to the stables and enjoying the time there. He of course invited his family there frequently because while enjoyed being able to take care of business on his own, he is too much of a family man to stay away too long.

Now that he is 24, he is back in London. He missed being in his familial home and figured his mother and brother would need his support with two of his sisters being presented to society. He also knows their mother is hoping August will find someone as well. Francis himself is open to having a family of his own but he is holding out for someone that gives him the spark that his mother and father shared. He won’t settle for less.

Callum grew up in Wales where his father was a Duke of Cardiff. He spent his childhood learning to take over as the Duke. He either was with his nannies or with his father, learning what he needed to know. One of the things he was told since he was around nine years old was that he would marry Lady Evelyn, the daughter of a Viscount who was 2 years younger. Years went by as Callum continued to learn the duties of the Duke from his father and pressured by his mother to know Evelyn. From the time Callum was 16-20, he didn’t see Evelyn while she finished her schooling in Scotland. The summer she returned, Callum didn’t know what had kept him from her all those years. Rich dark brown hair and eyes to match, Callum had lost all of his words. It took almost the entire summer for her to take him seriously but their arranged marriage turned into a love match. They were married the following year when Callum turned 21 and then he officially took over the title of Duke of Cardiff. For the first time, the weight of Callum’s future seemed to lighten. He was in love and being the Duke just came easy to him.

Within two years into their marriage, Evelyn fell pregnant with their first child. To say they were over the moon was an understatement. They could clearly see how the rest of their lives would turn out. Callum was destined to be more present of a father than his was and raise his children in a house of love he built with Evelyn. Sadly, sometimes people want to break perfect things. One early Autumn day, Evelyn was destined to go to the market. So, she took a guard with her and went. That was the last time Callum saw Evelyn and their unborn child due to bandits in the market.

Callum spiraled after that. For 6 months, he refused to see anyone, not making much of an appearance outside his study. He hit the bottle hard, trying to drown out what sorrow and pain losing Evelyn and their child caused. He would’ve drowned longer had his father demanded he go to London. Callum was the only heir and he needed an heir. He had a duty. So, six months after the most tragic thing in his life, he went to London like he was told. He had no intention of taking a wife and instead wanted to numb the pain in alcohol. In London is where he met Celestine. She was in her first season and there was something about her that drew him in. Something that reminded him of Evelyn. He wondered that season if he could love again. He was almost convinced which is why he decided to prematurely take her to bed. It was the first time since his wife. It felt like he betrayed every memory of her and though not his best moment, he disappeared back to Wales without a word to Celestine or anyone.

Nicolas grew up in The Ton with his father, Lord Regis Hemingway. His mother was a mystery to him, gone before he was a year old. She had fled in the night about 8 months after his birth and never returned or that's the story anyway. Nic’s upbringing was a very strict one. His father only commanded him and made sure Nic was always following the rules. He didn’t truly realize the immense structure of his upbringing until he started to travel in his early years of adulthood. What was supposed to be a maximum of two years of travel turned into almost five, seeing most of Europe. He only returned at 25 to handle his fathers estate, his passing occuring while Nic was in Italy. The man never missed an opportunity to thrust his expectations on Nicolas and left specific instructions for his estate, including getting married in the upcoming season.

That season, Nic made an effort to do what his father commanded one last time. About halfway through the season, he met Marie. She was a beautiful and charming woman from a good family (things she had to have according to Regis Hemingway) and on her third season. The two were not in love by any means but they were each other's way to please their parents. So for the rest of that season, Nic courted Marie and they married the following Winter. About a year after their marriage, Marie gave birth to their first daughter, Fiona. While Nic wasn’t in love with Marie, he fell in love with being a father. When they found out they were having a second child, Nic was thrilled. He set out to be the father he wished his dad was and glad that his children would have a mother. The world had different plans though, taking Marie’s life during childbirth. Nic was left with a three year old and a newborn.

For the first year of Ivy’s life, Nic felt like his father, distant and business-like. They were raised like he was, with a nanny. He didn’t know how mundane and cold his life had gotten until he saw his second daughter take her first steps. He had missed the first milestones that he cherished with his eldest daughter. So, he went back to trying to be the best dad for his daughters. He tries to balance his responsibilities as Lord Hemingway with also being a father but he still feels his daughters deserve someone else in their life, someone he himself missed out on. So, Nicolas has decided to give the marriage market another try. This season, he is determined to get a lay of the land, not wanting to make any rash decisions. He’s not in it for love, he’s in it for his daughters to have a well-balanced life.

Leon always strived to hear that praise, but never quite believed he was worth it - he was never the brightest, or the fastest, his aim was never as accurate as his brothers'. He danced with two left feet, his hand-writing wasn't beautiful and he seldom won at card games. Ever competing with his two older brothers and sometimes his younger sister, too, Leon couldn't help but compare himself to them and conclude that he was inadequate.
  
  Their mother, Odette, took it upon herself to remind him of that at every opportunity. His father at least was kind about his shortcomings, but she saw little point investing in her youngest son, and paid no attention to his insecurities, instead carelessly broadening them. By the time he was a teenager, his relationship with her was hanging by a thread. He began to resent his siblings, too, particularly Gregory, who was proving himself to be a perfect heir and living up to all expectation, even that of their mother who seemed impossible to please.
  
  Then, when Leon was 16, Gregory fell gravely ill. It was a torturous time for the family because no doctor was able to confidently diagnose him or give a clear prognosis. They could only watch him wither away, until eventually, he succumbed to his illness. The family, whilst not perfect, was tight-knit, and so Gregory's death shook them to their core. There was no escape, no relief; his absence was felt everywhere, and constantly. Leon's grief turned inward and his self-hatred grew, judging himself for the resentment and jealousy he had once held towards his late brother. That a seemingly perfect young man like Gregory could surpass even the highest of standards and still not make it, it was enough to make Leon lose hope. He stopped trying to impress his father. He fought with his mother. He missed dinners, he misbehaved, he skipped royal invitations. He started drinking to numb the pain and sought ladies of the night to fill him with pleasure.
  
  Once some time had passed and the family began to pick themselves up again, Leon tried to collect himself and started making an effort again. Losing Gregory made him realise he needed to cherish his siblings, and so he did his best to make time for them and support them and spend time with them. But he couldn't seem to stop depending on alcohol and sex. His moods became erratic and he would feel out of control: lashing out in violent bursts of energy, harming himself, breaking down unexpectedly. He continued to try with his siblings but he couldn't stop the drinking and sometimes he felt so low he just didn't want to see them, and would leave home for days on end, practically living at local brothels.
  
  Two years later, just as he was beginning to get back on his feet, their family struck hard luck once again when the Marquess fell from his horse and suffered a head injury. After being in a coma for three days, he died, leaving Weston the new Marquess and in charge of the family. This time, being slightly older, Leon had more of a mind to step up, stick around for his older brother and take care of his younger sister. Unexpectedly, he managed to stay stable for a time, even managing to block out his mother's cruel, cold behaviour during the bereavement. But then, once Weston began to find his place as the new Marquess, Leon fell back into the shadows.
  
  The Sinclaires moved to London shortly thereafter, to reside with Odette's parents and nephews. Weston was to find a wife and Lydia was to make her debut in society. Meanwhile, Leon had no purpose. His mother had no aspirations for him, having given up on his future, and he had practically given up on himself, too.   Daphne has an exceptionally big heart. She's the type of young lady who would go out of her way to offer assistance. She always strives to make everyone feel included, and despite society's best attempts, they have yet to be able to pit her against another debutant. There is not a mean-spirited bone in her body, and while sometimes she may offer a bit of friendly advice, mostly she keeps to herself and minds her business.
  
  Personable and Honest
  Daphne is an open book, sometimes much to her own mother's chagrin. This is both an asset and a fault. Sometimes polite conversation might warrant that she hold her tongue, and yet still she speaks her mind truthfully and without restraint. After a conversation with Daphne, one will not be left questioning what kind of person she is. She wears her heart on her sleeve and doesn't see the point in concealing her less polished side if she is to truly find her match.

  Since she was a child, Daphne has struggled with anxiety and strained nerves. There was no defining point in her childhood when this developed, no traumatizing event that triggered her spiral, it's simply how she's always been. When she first started attending society events, she was quickly overwhelmed by the ever-growing crowds and rigid expectations. The weight of a hundred sets of eyes on her was unbearable, and she begged her mother to delay her debut until she could garner a bit more self-confidence. She still struggles from time to time at large events and will often take a brief respite to less crowded areas when she can.
